I like Tressa as a fun character, but her conflicts are not enough to hold a story.
And we exchanged the captain for a loser merchant?
I plan to give H'Annit the Dancer class so she can regain MP for her Arrowstorm skill.

Where there's life, there's hope.Alfyn's chapter 3 boss is probably the hardest one besides the True Final Boss, especially for that point in the game. I couldn't beat him until I was Level 40+.
A lot of people joke about him being a Memetic Badass cause of how tough he is while recovering from mortal wounds.
The Protomen enhanced my life. What, really? I just kinda merked him. Concoct, debuffs from the thief class, Olberic using Incite and self-buffing...
One problem I have with this game is backtracking. I have to travel through at least half of the routes twice.
The purple chest thing is also very irritating.
Where there's life, there's hope.Yup XD The That One Boss entry for him on YMMV.Octopath Traveler is probably the most detailed one there.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I certainly got absolutely annihilated by him the first couple times I tried.
But levels don't actually make much of a difference; equipment does. So I used passive skills to avoid enough encounters and explore the rest of the world, picking up some really good stuff along the way. Then in all the Ch. 4 towns, I used path actions to obtain endgame gear (Cyrus and Alfyn can uncover bonuses that make other path actions easier. And Tressa is amazing here, because buying stuff off people almost always outclasses shops, and there's really nothing else to spend money on. And it means you don't have to savescum with Therion).
When I came back, I wrecked him so hard that it was actually too easy. So I went back to my lower-end equipment and beat him properly with good strategy.

Oh, that's probably why lol. Around chapter 3 I somehow stumbled into Primrose's endgame area and had gone crazy outfitting the party with endgame gear.
Finished H'Annit Ch. 2
H'annit's chapter is relatively easy. I only lost against a mandatory Provoke. After buying new stuff and getting some Lv. VI rats, I got through the chapter pretty easily. I barely used any healing item.
Ophelia is used pretty often recently. A lot of enemies are weak to Light and mass healing is very efficient.
Got a modest EXP boost from the boss. Could have been better, but at least I wasn't majorly screwed by Bewildering Grace this time.
H'annit's story is still building up nicely, but the boss was shoo-in like Phili's Ch.2 boss.

Where there's life, there's hope.I had Ophelia as my lead and gave her the mage class and she was just a powerhouse nuker the whole game.
Her story was pretty boring though.
Finished Olberic's chapter 2.
It's nice that there's no dungeon in this game so I can drag Therion in and out to steal the competitors' items.
I'm running low on healing grape bunch because so many bosses have AOE attacks.
Bewildering Grace screwed me over in my first try against Gustav. The second try netted me 4x EXP and 2x AP.
Chapter 2's tournament story isn't exciting, and the WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR thing is getting stale. The best thing it has going on is the inquiry entries.

Where there's life, there's hope. It's a JRPG made to emulate SNES era RP Gs, someone was getting a tournament arc.
It's too bad the game's so focused on Olberic there, the tournament characters sound really interesting. Oh, by the way, once you finish a character's story the story NP Cs get added to the game world for Inquiring/Stealing/Alluring, and they have some great items if duel them too.
Some day I want a JRPG that's just one really long Tournament Arc, with preliminaries and stuff, like a mixture of the Dark Tournament and the Hunter Entrance Exam.

Mega Man Battle Network 4.
Also considered to be the worst Battle Network game.
Where there's life, there's hope.Done well, I can't believe I have to spell it out like that.
That kinda exists, Chaos Rings is a thing. It's not a pure tournament arc though, but then again neither is the Dark Tournament or the Hunter Exam.
Finished Alfyn's and Primrose's Ch.2. That's all of the Ch.2.
Primrose's story continues to be the darkest and most intriguing. Shame that I can't hunt down the bishop and use Provoke on him.
Alfyn's story is pretty good. I'm growing more accepting of the episodic format, hopefully his philosophy as a healer will be tested.
Ranking of the stories so far: Primrose > Cyrus > H'annit > Alfyn > Ophelia > Therion > Olberic > Tressa.
The two chapters are not terribly hard except for Bewildering Grave misfires.
I have discovered the first 8 shrines. Now my current distribution of the secondary jobs:
Ophilia: Thief
Cyrus: Cleric
Tressa: Warrior
Olberic: Apothecary
Primrose: Scholar
Alfyn: Merchant
Therion: Hunter
H'Annit: Dancer
Where there's life, there's hope.Finished Olberic's, Alfyn's, and Tressa's Ch.3.
Tressa's Ch.3 is my favorite in her story so far, but that's mostly because I find the Captain more captivating than Tressa.
Olberic's Ch.3 is a noted improvement over Ch.2, though that isn't hard to achieve. The resolution to WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR earns a big "well, duh" for me.
Alfyn's Ch.3 is likewise a big improvement and my favorite in his story so far. Unlike Tressa's story however, Alf isn't overshadowed.
Miguel and the sabertooth took me 2 tries. Both have 2 moves per turn. Miguel only utilizes 1 of his 2 moves, but he hits hard with AOE. Sabertooth however has 2 chances to hit AOE and poison. Not a fun fight. Lizard king and blond guy are super easy in comparison, though I didn't get any EXP boost on lizard king.
Where there's life, there's hope.I found Olberic's story the most consistently good. Primrose has a compelling first 2 chapters but by 3 and 4 it kinda falls off a cliff.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Olberic's Ch.2 is pretty low to me. Only Tressa's Ch.2 is lower.
Where there's life, there's hope.I miss Robopon. :(
The Protomen enhanced my life.Finished Cyrus', H'annit's, and Ophelia's Ch. 3
Finally, Ophelia has a proper antagonist! That said, Ch.3 doesn't focus that much on the "healing with kindness" theme. The ending makes me exciting for Ch.4.
What I have not mentioned before is that H'Annit's individual chapters are not as good as Primrose's or Cyrus' or even Alfyn's, but the reason I like it is that it's all about the build-up to the confrontation with Redeye. That said, I'd prefer the chapters to be about hopeless confrontation with the beast and learning about its weaknesses, like a horror movie. At least there is some learning about Redeye here, and I enjoy the old crone.
Cyrus continues to be great, though my big criticism is that even though Yvon isn't the main villain, they should have saved him for the final chapter, but the formulaic structure of the game forces it to only have 1 major villain per chapter.
I have a feeling that the Savior's gang is involved with Yvon's necromancy cult.
Yvon took me 2 tries, while the duo cultists and the dragon took me 1 try.

Where there's life, there's hope.Finished Primrose's and Therion's Ch.3. That's all Ch.3 down. I will tackle the Ch.4 in OCTOPATH order.
Looks like all Ch.4 are at Lv. 45, so once I knock off 3 chapters the rest should be easier.
Therion's story is finally interesting again since he finally has an antagonist worth a damn. More information on the Ravus household is appreciated.
Primrose's story is lacking in good recurring allies. The recent two chapters' allies are not as engaging as Yusufa. The crow leader would be right at home with Utena but unfortunately he is stuck in a game with formulaic and restrictive story telling.
Gareth took me 2 tries, while the right wing took me 1 try. It's a shame I didn't get any EXP multiplier on the latter though.
Current party level:
- Ophelia: 40
- Cyrus: 38
- Tressa: 37
- Olberic: 39
- Primrose: 51
- Alfyn: 37
- Therion: 46
- H'annit: 39
Current ranking of the stories:
Primrose > Cyrus > H'annit > Alfyn > Ophelia > Therion > Olberic > Tressa

Where there's life, there's hope.A Disney Mirrorverse RPG is coming to mobile phones featuring AU versions of Disney/Pixar casts. Sounds neat!
The Protomen enhanced my life.Finished Ophelia's story.
I wonder why the Knights Ardante are not sent to support Ophelia in Wispermill, unless fighting off ember thieves are part of the Kindling. Or are the Knights too busy with the Redeye business? Fortunately I nabbed a decently strong Brother. He even has the boss's weaknesses.
Speaking of the boss, he is cheesed hard by Sealitcge's Seduction + Reflect combo. That said, I don't have much room to use Bewildering Grace during both the boss and the dungeon because the BP are better used elsewhere and I have to kill enemies as quickly as possible to not die by AOE attacks.
I really like Ophilia's story. It's a simple heartwarming story about love and healing. Mattias is a decent antagonist, though anything after the pointless wolf monster is decent by comparison, I suppose.
Where there's life, there's hope.
Tressa's story is a lot of fun, does a lot with her character and is a good balm if Primrose's story starts getting you down, but it's very much an episodic story where the link is her going around and doing stuff. It's only the last act where you start to get a sense of any links to the larger narrative as well as Primrose's, by way of the Obsidians. Still, I enjoyed it immensely. I think the only one that I wasn't very invested in by the end was Alfyn's, which is a shame because he was my lead and I liked him a lot. Ah well. Axing questions of people never gets old.
