In theory, this trope is the middle point between a work's Moment of Awesome and a Dethroning Moment of Suck. A moment that is played up to invoke a strong feeling from the viewer, but instead the viewer is apathetic to the scene. The description supports this.

The examples actually list whole works being average or even boring to the viewer. No context is given and almost all the examples are cloned off one tired joke. It really just has personal examples of So Okay, It's Average under a different title.

There's a notice at the top that asks for moments from fiction only. From a previous TRS thread on the same page, this page used to hold only personal examples from real life and is now limited to examples within fiction. People seem to misinterpret this message and add whole works to the list. Those who add specific moments get confused and don't add them, resulting in examples like this:

  • I seem unable to show the appropriate emotional reaction for plot twist or dramatic event in fictional work without preparing myself. For instance in the Harry Potterandthe Half Blood Prince water cave scene, when I read it I really didn't think much about it, just kept reading. Only when I talked to other fans who went on about the Nightmare Fuel and squickiness of it did I think to interpret it as such. Ditto for Dumbledore's death. BIG TEARJERKER for everybody, okay-when's-the-next-book-out for me. This happens all the time with literature and some movies, even though I am a fairly emotional person most of the time (all most more so than I'd like). Am I selectively apathetic or missing something important?
    • Saw the warning at the top about just having these be about pieces of media. Meh. Oops.

What should be done is to clarify the current policy and make it that examples may only apply to specific moments and not whole works. It is called Crowning Moment of Indifference. Specific guidelines like those on Dethroning Moment of Suck may be applied.

Wait, where did this come from?! Has it always existed? Because I've never seen it or heard about it before and I know no new "moment" pages have been allowed for years.

It has always restricted - since 2010 in fact, as a spoof of the Crowning pages.

It had a TRS earlier, too.

So it sounds like what it needs is just a cleanup?

Maybe, but I'm not sure if this is supposed to be about whole works or specific moments. It may have to be redefined.

I think it's a funny page (as a spoof to other moment pages).

Only it seems inevitable to refer to yourself and our reaction in these cases, so I would like if the page had the rule of signing your entries (like Most Triumphant Example or Dethroning Moment of Suck). Also we should delete Natter and check the page from time to time for Thread Mode.

There's also someone in the discussion page saying it's really complaining.

It sounds like it needs both a cleanup and a clarification that it's a spoof.

Yeah, except I'm not even sure what that means.

Does that mean restrict serious examples?

Again, it's a spoof of the Moments pages. I have some difficulty to see how to add examples to that. Maybe Dragon Quest Z knows - he's the creator of the trope.

Personally, I think it should be called "Ordinary Moment of Indifference". I would also recommend an Example Sectionectomy with the following comment or similar:

No examples please. They wouldn't be anything special anyway.

So it's a spoof of pages that don't actually exist any more in that form...

We've got a great collection of those pages that will never exist here.

Are you suggesting there's a problem with that page too, or are you saying this kind of joke is more suitable there?

That page is fine. And I think that page shows that these jokes work best on that page, not with their own pages, and definitely not with examples.

Bump. This hasn't gotten a lot of interest. Guess it's because the page is about indifference.

The entire page is the same joke repeated every line. I can't see a single entry worth keeping. There should be some way of making a laugh out of this, but not in this form.

I'm voting for the sectionectomy, and I wonder if we can ask for some ideas to make that page worth existing.

A blog that gets updated on a geological timescale.

The two options in green have similar numbers of supports and opposes. Is it too early for a runoff crowner?

Crowner tally:

  • 11-5 for "Cut the page."
  • 10-5 for "Clean up the page and clarify it is a spoof."

Seems to me like it's time for a runoff.

Runoff crowner's hooked; note the stipulation in the crowner header.
