[up] But you'd have awareness of its flaws coming this time around.

Its why I'm not disappointed. I already knew all this shit going in so I got no expectations to ruin. tongue

Sometimes I feel as if I'm in an Alternate reality.

I'll talk about my Apparnetly Unique experience with this show....

Cause Volume 1 and 2 were my least favorite...and at times I had to force myself to keep watching cause of hearing how good volume 3 was. I found the Comedy Cringey and how the plot was taking forever to actually HAPPEN.

I actually liked the final episodes of Volume 2.

Then after volume 3 I became hooked and then I really liked volume 4 and 5.

I think it might have been partially because of Opinion and partially cause I binge watched it.

In my experience The issues that DO exist in volumes 4 and 5(I won't deny there existance, just that I felt they weren't as distracting as others made it out to be) are much less Grating Binge watching the show as opposed to waiting every week to get another episode.

"Volume 6 is an improvement, but the first episode has me convinced that RT is trying for a So Bad,It'sGood kind of comedy show"

That is hardly new. This has always been one of my biggest issues with the show. Whenever the show tries going for a "Lighthearted" tone it tries SO HARD It becomes Aggravating. I think this is why I prefer Abridged versions of Volume 1 and 2, said volumes are already designed to be Comedic, but the Jokes are actually good.

@Rebel Falcon

I...really don't get the "Damage Control" thing. Don't we...WANT Writers to try and fix stuff?

[up]Never said "Damage Control" in of itself was bad. Damage Control can be good, so long as its not a single time event before going back to the state it was before the Damage Control. Consider the damage to be an open cut, and the Damage Control a formed scab. If the Damage Control is followed up on in quality, then the Scab will eventually fall off and the cut will heal. But if the Damage Control isn't followed up on and the same treatment prior to it is done, then the equivalent is picking the scab off and letting the cut open again, meaning the damage will be redone.

Damage Control in of itself is a neutral concept. What makes it good or bad is if its followed up on. If the CRWBY keeps it up and continues to improve, then the Damage Control was good. But if they return to old habits and we get another Volume 5, then the Damage Control was nothing more than a temporary fix.

[up][up]The main problem with damage control is that it generally doesn't come about from the writers figuring out there's something wrong, it comes from the public saying there's something wrong and the writers running to fix just because the public said there was something wrong, which most of the time means the writers didn't really learn anything or think they made a mistake, they just changed something so as to not piss off viewers. Means that similar problems might occur again later.

Which it result in another problem because not all complains are equals, one are from storyline, another are just whinning and know what is what is hard.

In my experience is kinda similar to Droy to the point we both complain HARD about volume 1 and 2, specially with they so call dark tone that was going to show up anyday now.....and them of course it come volume 3, or more precisly the second half when Penny die and everybody goes to hell and I LOVE IT, every single minute of that glorious trainfuck were the hero are kick five way to sunday, My favorite moment being when Adam main Yang in one atack follow by Cinder getting maiden power, it was.....awsome.

And things start to go badly, I dont have anything against volume 4 actually, is meandry but really there is nothing bad about it, just kinda....sort of there, I actually like they expand of Ren and Nora and in general I just found Yang and Weiss arc kinda boring and in the former a necesity because there is not way they will leave Yang out of the blue.

Volume 5 is....no good at all, aside of the skubstaic argument about Sun and Blake, all menegarite arc which was bad, all the problems of white fang and of course that awfull fight in the mansion, the only good thing I guess is Raven and Cinder fight who is pretty awsome actually and the moment Yang enter the chamber.

Now volume 6 show they can write good stuff, the only things bad in my case were the Adam fight and that is problem with white fang.

I will said I see RWBY in part because I see a study case of why some stuff is necesary and other dont: like for example, flashbacks and showing backstories, we complain about in show like Naruto and once upon a time but here were the only villian flesh up is Salem show how is necesary on how making Adam and incel but a victim is not the best course of action and many other things in general.

@The Lovecraftian

Ehh. I'm not sure if I agree with that.

Yes it's true they shouldn't change something if they don't actually think it needs changing...

But at the same time, changing things because of critism is kinda what Constructive Critism is FOR.

When I first heard of the show, Episode 1 had aired a couple of days previously and the second episode was an hour away from airing. I therefore watched the four trailers and the first two episodes back-to-back. I only did that because someone asked me to. I wouldn't have bothered if not for that — the animation was pretty crap.

I therefore had no expectations for the show going into it. In fact, the shoddy animation quality of the four trailers meant my expectations were extremely low; I had never bought into the pre-show hype; I had no idea who Monty Oum was, so I never bought into the hype about his fight animation; not being a fan of his fight animation, I wasn't blinded by 'Monty action' to the show's early flaws the way a lot of fans were and I've never thought Monty's fight animation was as good as a lot of fans think it is.

Over time, some flaws have been solved, some haven't, and some new flaws have appeared. I therefore don't find much difference between the quality of the show now compared to the beginning. If I tire of it, I'll move on. Until then, I'll just have fun with what it is. The show is what it is. That's all I ever expected from it, and that's all it's ever been.

[up] I kind of wish I had your attitude, but I find it hard to enjoy the show with the flaws it exibits as of recently. Early Volumes were highly flawed, but in a more... innocent manner? The bad aspects were something to laugh at and to hope they improve, while the good aspects were genuine results of talent. And there really was improvement — I liked Volumes 3 and 4 much more than the first two. Now it all feels more messy and makes me doubt the show will get consistently good at any point in the future.

I'm mostly in it for fanfics, really. RWBY has some really interesting concepts it either doesn't explore or explores badly, so it's a perfect fanfiction generator in a sense. If I won't get what I want from the show proper, who's to say I won't get that from derivative works? I already succeeded at some areas and the fanworks just keep coming. Even if I end up dropping the show for good, I will pay attention to it in one form or another to better understand the source material.

[up][up]Well, I was trained as a scientist, so I had it drilled into me to never be blind to what's in front of your nose and to always use flaws, mistakes and errors as a learning tool to improve my own understanding of things — not just the subject at hand, but more generally, too.

On top of that, I also did English Literature, where I had it drilled into me to rip everything I ever read or watched apart, to shred it back to the bone and expose all the flaws and positives, the weaknesses and strengths.

Between those two pieces of training, I spent years stripping down everything I ever watched or read, instinctively evaluating, analysing, critiquing, to a point where it became almost impossible to enjoy anything — from quality, prize-winning material down to poor quality works that will never win prizes. I'm sure you've noticed that my exploration of points raised by this thread can quite analytical and my episode responses can be quite lengthy. I made a conscious effort to learn how to enjoy things again, especially the simple things, and to appreciate positives — perhaps even more when surrounded by negatives.

RWBY is one of my light shows, my wind-down shows: my 'this isn't a quality work so just have fun' work. I always have a couple of those on the go to remind me that, sometimes, fun can — and should — outweigh (or happen despite) quality.

For all this talk about RWBY how long have you been watching RWBY? RWBY came out in 2013 it's all most six-seven years old that a long tine to be invest in a show. Have there been other show that you been invest longer?

Seven years isn't so long. I grew up on literature sagas that were written and published over decades. I've been a fan of Star Trek since the age of four — and that franchise is still pumping out new material every so often. Look at Terry Brooks. His first Shannara novel was published in 1977, the most recent in 2019; that's 42 years. I'm willing to bet that means that the Shannara saga has been going for longer than some of this forum's posters have been alive. RWBY is first RT show I've ever watched, but my understanding is that RvB has been going for over a decade? If so, the RT community should be used to longer shows.

I got to the show midway through Volume 1. During Episode 8, in fact, because it was exactly that one that got me hooked on the show.

Yes, there was a backlash in the RWBY fandom in the early days of V1. The show was slow-paced, slice-of-life and didn't have much in the way of fights. The backlash was from people who felt that the trailers had lied to them and misrepresented what the show was about. People were talking of dropping the show. Some did.

A quieter part of the fandom actually liked what was unfolding, but they were already learning that they needed to keep their heads down.

Then Episode 8 happened. That's when such people got on board with the show — although not for very long because their next backlash was the Jaune arc.

The fandom 'meme' at the time was that recommending the show to people who hadn't seen should consist of the message 'Start with Episode 8 not with Episode 1'.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.

The RWBY companion book is coming out October 8, 2019 [1]and the preview pages give us some information on Neptune's weapon Name Tri-Hard (Sun came up with it)[2]

And we got some information on on Watts character is Watson if he left Holmes and joined Moriarty [3]

That's reaching real hard. And why is he a scientist? Watson wasn't a scientist. He was a medical doctor. A surgeon, as a matter of fact. Are RT aware that not all doctors are the same thing?

He was also a robot at one point.

So Hazel is Hansel without Gretal, and Watts is turncoat Watson. Did they say who Tyrian was, or is the assumption still "Frog and Scorpion"?

But Ruby does have characteristics of Red Riding Hood, like her innocence at the start of the show. Watts has absolutely nothing to do with Watson, except for the similar name.

[up]... Well, that and the Snark. A lot of interpretations of Watson like to depict him as a Deadpan Snarker to Holmes when he isn't being, well The Watson, and being the one to call him out when he seems to be acting dumb. Like calling Holmes out on being high.

Watts has so far done a lot of Snark, and he is the only one so far who outright berates Cinder for her murder boner for Ruby and it messing up their plans.

If that's the case with Watts, I'm guessing there is or was a Holmes analogue somewhere. I mean, the Hazel/Hansel connection makes at least a sort of sense, by RWBY standards, and the world can be Tyrian's frog, but Watson without Holmes is... what even? And how is... Salem?... Moriarty?

Considering the general sense given thus far of Atlas, and Holmes' own inspiration, it would make sense for his analogue to be on the lam...

My posts make considerably more sense read in the voice of John Ratzenberger.
RebelFalcon ULTRANumb from ... (Private)
#60949: Aug 21st 2019 at 8:42:55 PM

Maybe, but it could just as likely be the Holmes analogue is dead.

The final battle between Holmes and Moriarty ended at Reichenbach Falls in The Final Problem, Watson having been called away under the false pretense of helping a sick woman, only to learn said hoax and discover two sets of footprints going towards a Dead End path that none return from, presuming the footprints belong to Holmes and Moriarty themselves. He finds no set of returning footprints and finds signs of a struggle, and comes to the conclusion the two ultimately fought and fell to their deaths.

Both Holmes and Moriarty were intended to have died there, but after an overwhelmingly negative response to this, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle proceeded to revive Sherlock Holmes in The Adventure of the Empty House, albeit with a caveat. The In-Universe reasoning was that as there was no actual witness to Holmes' death, he could have feasibly survived the fall, with only Moriarty's gang and Sherlock's brother Mycroft knowing he had survived. In truth, Sherlock had thrown Moriarty off the Falls and went into hiding so as to take care of some things on his own.

As seen with Hazel however, the analogues don't necessarily follow the same fates as their inspirations. Since in the inspiration, Gretel survived encountering the Witch and she and Hansel lived Happily Ever After, whereas Gretchen Rainart perished and Hazel Rainart has been presumably misled by the Witch in regards to her true fate, leading him to pin the blame solely on Ozpin.

As such, its entirely possible that the Holmes Analogue didn't survive the equivalent of Reichenbach Falls, but Moriarty did and had managed to manipulate Watts into siding with him, said Moriarty analogue likely being another follower of Salem's.

Remember what Salem said again after punishing Hazel as the reasoning behind her followers working with her. "Love, Justice, Reverence". And its easier to see who has which really. Tyrian is clearly reverence, since he reveres Salem as a Goddess, and Hazel could fit either Justice or Love, Justice for Gretchen or his love for Gretchen. Which means whichever isn't his goes to Watts, and since I'd go for Hazel having Love, that leaves "Justice" for Watts. The disgraced Atlesian Doctor, who, if he indeed is a Watson analogue, could believe that Moriarty's analogue showed him the truth and he in turn wants justice for being disgraced.

I made a RWBY AU where Watts inspiration was Gepetto from Pinnochio.

My idea there was that Watts was the one who Built Penny modeling her after his deceased daughter. She still wasn't alive...until Salem got to him. Making a deal to give her life in return for his services.

Also in defense of the show. Its likely Watts Backstory will show more simmularities to His inspiration.
