TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

The page is sound; the name needs to be better. I suppose we could simply vote on a new name here, or we could make a TRS thread for it when a slot opens up.

I am fine with either approach. Still waiting for opinions on PLAN 8 and On The Grind.

I don't see any problems with your suggestions for P8 or Grind.

Thanks.

Also, I've found this new work page, somewhat stubby: Hard Revenge, Milly.

Also, someone ought to check out whether Militaries Are Useless fulfills our page creation standards.

eta: I've cleaned out On The Grind a bit and cutlisted PLAN 8.

I just saw Godzilla Expy on the un-typed pages list. It's a two-line stub with poor formatting and redundancy with Rent-a-Zilla.

Godzilla Expy ought to be a redirect to Rent-a-Zilla.

Technically, Rent-a-Zilla is "A work is not about Kaiju or other giant monsters, but throws them in anyway because of Rule Of Cool."

That isn't quite the same thing as an Expy of Godzilla, which could show up in a work that _is_ about Kaiju or other giant monsters.

What we should do is redefine Rent-a-Zilla to mean Godzilla Expy, because I suspect that is how people use it.

Actually, RAZ examples (at least on the trope page itself) are mostly proper use as "Kaiju thrown in because it's awesome, reason be damned". Dunno about its use on works pages offhand, too lazy to follow the "Related to..." wicks. tongue

Godzilla Expy will need a trip to YKTTW though. As-is it's just a stub that ought to go to the Cut List.

So, we should move Rent-a-Zilla's current definition to Instant Awesome Just Add Kaiju or something and redefine the former as an expy of Godzilla?

Any change to Rent-a-Zilla will have to occur at TRS, considering that it isn't a new page.

RAZ may need a rename (I'm not sure), but let's not go for another snowclone if it's decided to rename the trope. While in that case it would be a reasonably accurate use of the "Instant Awesome" line of tropes, snowclones encourage other snowclones, more than a few of which are shoehorning.

As [up] notes, though, that's a TRS issue, not here.

Militaries Are Useless got launched with zero hats and lingering questions to its redundancy with Red Shirt Army.

As-is, it's just a complain-y version of Red Shirt Army.

I think there is a trope here, but it needs to be completely reworked. It seems like a sister trope to Adults Are Useless (in a show with kid or teen heroes, there are adults who should be able to take care of things, but the adults don't do anything effective; the kids have to solve the problem, catch the criminal, or stop the monster without them). This could even keep the name "The Military Is Useless" and be defined as "the military is called out but proves completely ineffective to deal with the threat, leaving the protagonists to save the town/stop the monster/win the battle..."

Red Shirt Army is for armies and troop-like items that are easily killed/disabled/whatever. It would be a subtrope of Militaries Are Useless.

There's definitely something there, but it's a definite premature launch. And the examples are a just... well they need help.

It really needs to go back to be ironed out.

Are You Sure This Is For Kids was launched a short while ago with a dialogue trope name. Shall we take that to TRS for a rename?

I don't really see that we need it. It's simply going to muddy the waters even more between "show that isn't for kids that people assume is for kids" and "show that is for kids but adult fans claim isn't just a kid's show".

Hmm...quite a bit on the page overlaps with Parental Bonus, so... delete as a duplicate?

The Workhorse: was it prematurely launched or can it just be worked on from there?

It seems like Boring, but Practical as applied to vehicles, not to mention half the examples are from real life, three of which aren't vehicles.

It needs crosswicking and media category fixing, first and foremost.

Came across this trope called Manufacturing Victims, which was launched after only getting a single hat (and not much discussion).

It seems problematic as it takes its name from some work that is a tract against psychiatrists, and the description is written to seemingly endorse that book.
