Disney owns Lucasfilm: will it have room for Star Wars fan movies?
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Well, didn't see that coming. Wonder how it'll turn out. Probably can't be worse than Clone Wars.
I'm leaving this thread now because I know people will pour in just to complain without reading anything. See ya.
Right now I'm squeeing like a little girl in my head. Two reasons:
- 1. Lucas no longer his tyrannical iron-fisted grip on the franchise - we might see Han shoot first again.
- 2. A Star Wars world in Kingdom Hearts? Yes. Please.

Seriously, people panicking and predicting doom should probably do well to remember that the franchise doesn't exactly have a lot to lose at this point. I mean seriously, the most recent additions have been The Old Republic and Star Wars Kinect.
If they manage to pull off the film version of Into the Woods okay, then I don't see much point in forecasting bad things for episode 7. Not worse than usual, anyway.
George Lucas has stated that the Star Wars films were primarily Anakin Skywalker's story. It only took him 6 films to tell this story, and he had thought at one time that he needed more than that. So I guess the question is what the plot for this film is going to be? <Raises eyebrow>
I wonder if the the movie will be based on any Expanded Universe story. If that's the case, I seriously hope they choose a story from the Bantam Books era and not the Del Rey Books era. The EU was in top form during the BB era. The DRB era...gives me the feeling of wanting to vomit uncontrollably in disgust.
I hate to say this, but I feel that the SW franchise has run its course, and that pulling the plug on it would do us all a favour!
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!Yeeees! YEEEEEEEEEEES! And then we can get Kotor 2 with a proper ending! And then a real Kotor 3 that doesn't retcon all over the previous 2 titles and end with a glorified trailer for a crappy MMO!
Do Kotor and its sequel justice on film!
But that'll mean no female Revan.
Can it be two versions or something?
I really have no clue what to say about this. I don't doubt that the result could be entertaining, but I have no clue how they'd be able to fit another movie into the existing series. It needs to be a side story or something.
Reaction Image RepositoryI'm just happy we're getting another Space Opera film and not just more Planetary Romances. There's what? Star Wars, Star Trek and a few stragglers like The Fifth Element and some really weird entries like Treasure Planet.
Not Three Laws compliant. You didn't read the following sentence.
A KOTOR movie would only bring misery. And fan rage. There's no way to do it right that would please fans.
And it would be glorious.
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!WHAT.
WHAT.
THIS IS.
WHAT.
Okay, quick rundown of my projected outcomes...
1. Expanded Universe is gone. Just out the window. The mandalorian clusterfuck from Clone Wars and all the Force Unleashed crap? That'll seem pale in comparison.
2. Mark Hamill returns to play the new protagonist's mentor. Luke Skywalker will die via The Worf Effect.
3. It'll actually be good. Think of the trailers from The Old Republic. Now blow those into a fully fleshed out film. In this case, Running the Asylum will end up being a good thing.
^^How so? You mean the choice element? I don't think the Kotors did choice that well honestly and almost everyone agrees that Light Side was canon anyway.
The only thing I'd be concerned about would be whitewashing Kreia as the rest of the EU has basically done.
However it is done, there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. And it'll be worse than the prequels. And The Clone Wars. And The Force Unleashed.
Okay, honestly don't know what to think. I enjoyed all six Star Wars films (yes, even the prequels - and yes, I have seen Plinkett and I still like them), but I'm not sure what they could do with this.
I suppose you could set it a thousand years after the Original trilogy. That way, you won' step all over the EU and won't have to recast the old actors.
Either that or adapt the Thrawn Trilogy.
Thrawn makes a good movie villain, since he has a very distinctive character and appearance. However, spreading the Thrawn trilogy over more than one movie is not a good idea; maybe have Thrawn survive and reappear in a potential sequel, but the Thrawn trilogy does not have the scope to be entertaining over three movies.
Any other EU ideas for the movie can go die in a fire.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.I have absolutely no clue how to react. My initial gut reaction is "Effing NO." But it's not like Disney ruined Marvel, and Pirates of the Caribbean are good movies.
I think what I worry the most about is that it'll go from OT vs PT, to OT vs PT vs New Trilogy /Disney Trilogy /New Movies(since they didn't specify just a trilogy?). To some extent you already have to be careful in praising the PT, and adding a new thing to the mix won't help unless they're truly amazing films. I don't want a recreation of the PT hate, or to become like the PT haters. And this is ignoring anything related to the EU and any canon complications there.

I honestly can't see them adapting any existing storyline, even a popular one like Thrawn.
—clicks tongue—
Now what if they hired on Timothy Zahn as their writer?
The Thrawn Trilogy is probably the adaptation most wanted, but I can see why they probably won't do it. Any other adaptations they could and might do?
I don't think they'll adapt an EU work; for the reason I said and also because the vast majority of Star War fans probably wouldn't care.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.I'd love for the thrawn trilogy to be adapted into something but it's not going to be this.
This is a huge deal guys. It's going to be a completely new story. And it's not going to be happening right after the original trilogy, either.
Of course when I say "completely new" I still expect it to be a Cliché Storm.

-Puts on fireproof suit- To be honest I don't think that Old Republic was that bad. The quests dragged a bit and there didn't seem to be very much other stuff to do but other than that I liked it.
Secondly, I really do think we could use something from the EU. There's plenty of series from the books that would make good adaptations. Maybe they could do a movie version of the Empire at War: Forces of Corruption expansion.
This can't be really happening.
This has got to be a joke.
