For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.
For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.
We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

I'll go watch Urotsukidoji and see if there's anything to worry about.
EDIT: Well, there's a lot of sexual content. Tentacles ARE a thing. Really, this is my fault. I figured that the edited version would be okay, and it wasn't. I take full blame for it. If you want to back out of it, then we've always got the Highlander anime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFxcsgVwmTM
Really the funniest thing about Overfiend is the totally tone-inappropriate SNES music playing all the time.

"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."Let's rewatch Garzey's Wing.
Or for something new, did you know they made an anime out of the US children's book series The Magic Tree House?
It can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/user/jeaglory21/videos
I'm up for joining Discord servers! PM me if you know any good ones!I wouldn't worry about it too much. You made a mistake, but I don't hold it against you. We (mostly Sean and I) appreciate your enthusiasm to contribute.
If Sean comes back from... wherever, be sure to relay that new suggestion by him.
War is God.Well that certainly sounds like a...thing. Perfect for us, really.
Oh, and while we're on the subject of Western books adapted into anime
Tropers watching moviesAlright, so we're nixing Legend of the Overfiend for a more sophisticated French sci-fi/fantasy animation film Gandahar (aka Light Years).
Animation was helmed by René Laloux of Fantastic Planet fame and carried out by an animation studio based in North Korea. The English version was handled by the Weinstein brothers. And Isaac Asimov, of all people, was responsible for revising the original French script for English translation.
Not to mention the English voice talent includes the likes of Glenn Close, Terrance Mann, Penn & Teller, Bridget Fonda, and the Emperor of the First Circle of the Universe himself—Christopher Plummer.
The other suggestions, I'll be sure to add to the list.

North Korea did the animation?!
I hope we get to see The Magic Tree House someday. The only copy I know of is here: https://www.youtube.com/user/jeaglory21/videos and it doesn't seem to be anywhere else. Let's hope it doesn't get taken down. It's been up for 11 months.

They were the animation studio for The Legend Of The Titanic and Tentacolino... Both of which you'll have to get around to someday, if you haven't already...
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."DON'T MAKE ME RESORT TO VIOLENCE
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987That's Titanic The Legend Goes On... Which you should also try to find.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Alright, screw the big game, here we go! We got more of Limbo of the Lost, some gundam anime, more of Limbo of the Lost, and the latest offerings from Everything is Terrible. Then, at the top of the hour, we enjoy Gandahar.
You know where we at! http://synchtube.6irc.net/r/TroperCoven
Alright, we got another animated feature ready for Monday night, and this piece of shit is a real doozy—Joshua and the Promised Land.
There doesn't seem to be any sort of trailer or sample clip from this out there, so allow me to share a few plot synopses and other key quotes...
- IMDb: "Young Joshua Carter has a visit from a guardian angel, who takes him on an adventure into the heart of the Old Testament, where he lives out the life of the real Joshua - from the crossing of the Red Sea, through the Wilderness and into the Promised Land."
- The description on the back of the DVD: "A heart-warming tale for the whole family in the tradition of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkein about the courage one learns from trusting God."
- Director Jim Lion's Profile on LinkedIn: "In 2004 I made a straight-to-DVD movie called "Joshua and the Promised Land" which aired on satellite TV."
- The Best Comment from the Internet: "Watching this after five coronsas was not a good idea////D":"
In short, we got an ungodly Bible cartoon pet project that was assembled by just ONE PERSON over the course of 4 years with the aid of free computer programs and other assets. About the only work that had to be paid for is the voice acting and Spanish, French translations, because Mexico and Canada gotta have this, too.
Like I said, there's no trailer or sample clip... but should you still seek to learn more before the start of this monstrosity later tonight, there IS a separate 14-minute short film using same characters and awful animation techniques that you may familiarize yourself with, below:

Comparing yourself to Tolkein and C.S. Lewis is never, ever, ever a good sign. It's telling that Robert Stanek does it too, along with Gloria Tesch. But even then, at least those are fantasy authors. This is a biblical story, what does that have to do with anything? Really, what that DVD blurb means is "This is a story, but phrased in such a way as to remind you of two great religious fantasy authors."
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."Sorry I didn't rate last night's movie. I think I fell asleep. I remember naked blue people and Cybermen and the late Issac Asimov's name attached somehow. So probably better I didn't vote.
Frankly, when anything THIS bad◊ is what's on the front of the DVD case, drawing comparisons to Tolkien and C.S. Lewis on the back of the box seems more like a tremendous improvement.
No matter; it's alright. Thanks, again, for sharing that crazy gundam anime with us. That was an absolute hoot, and it's certainly gonna be my intention to show more of that on future dates.
"Courage that comes from God is always good!"
Now that's a tagline.
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987-looks at the pic- Hmm...that's horrifying.
And you're welcome about G Gundam. I figured it would be a good fit with all its cheesy 80s goodness (despite being made in the early 90s).

If I was more religious, that would certainly have me praying.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerI think I might be praying for the production values of Ratboy Genius before this is over.
At least we aren't watching Many-Tentacled Rapists from Hell Conquer the Innocence of Schoolgirls.

Good golly Miss Molly! I found another Dolph Lundgren film, this time with Jerry Springer as a co-star. (Also, Lundgren was the director for this one.)
(Don't worry, the movie itself is available in English.)
We already watched that.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987At least RBG has a strange sort of charm to it.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faer
Any other anime suggestions out there that we can agree on, instead? I know Galaxy Express 999 has been on the Suggestions List for a while. There's also a surreal sci-fi European animation called Gandahar (or Light Years). And, failing at those and/or any other suggestions, the live-action Fist of the North Star.
