We already had this thread. It was under Five-Man Band.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMe not looking properly.
Lock please!
EDIT: Don't lock!
I understand that Fast Eddie says that "The Chick"'s supposed to be female.
But "Five Man Band" contradicts that.
Besides, I don't understand why "The Chick" can't also be used for males like here.

Yeah, this has been bothering me for a while. Please don't lock this, there's an obvious problem here that needs to be fixed.
The question to answer here, best by someone who is familiar with the Five-Man Band trope, is whether The Chick as played by the FMB is Always Female or no.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe Chick is Always Female as that is "An index of characters that are female at least 90% of the time" which The Chick is. It's true that The Chick is "supposed to be female" but a Five-Man Band isn't "specifically four guys and a girl."
Don't Fast eddie's comments disagree with that?
It looks like Fast Eddie says that The Chick is a girl or woman. If his word is law, why are we talking about this?
Because Eddie is a reasonable person and is willing to listen to people who think he might be wrong, as long as they're polite about it.
Regarding the actual discussion of this thread, I have to say that I don't think Five-Man Band is just "four guys and a girl". I've seen shows which clearly have the Five-Man Band dynamic among groups with gender mixes other than that. (Sailor Moon springs to mind as an example of an all-female Five-Man Band.) I'm not thinking of any male "Chicks" off the top of my head, but I don't think it's female only; I know I've seen examples passed in the cleanup thread with male Chicks.

It's also interesting to note that not only was it Fast Eddie whom added the last line in the discription, but, in the same edit, he actually "Cleaned Up" some of the examples because they show "male" Chicks.
Also, the Always Female index states that the examples of the tropes within it are females at least 90% of the time (I think this applies to this trope).
EDIT: Never realised lexicon made similar comment a couple of posts this one.

I would say that Tuxedo Mask actually fills the role of the Chick in Sailor Moon, even though he is male. I can also make a case for Mackie in the original Bubblegum Crisis (which is also a five man band counting him).
I removed the confusing bit from the blurb about The Chick.
Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty
Five Man Band says: "Not always female, but the role is usually taken by the Token Girl (hence the name). Sometimes referred to as "the useless girl".
But The Chick contradicts it by saying: "Yes, we understand that a role very like this could be filled by a male, but this is a trope is component of a Five-Man Band, which is specifically four guys and a girl. Examples of male characters acting in this way can be found in The Heart. "
Hmm...
One of them needs to be modified.
I could only add a crowner on one page at the time. Besides, Five Man Band already has a repair shop discussion.
BTW, Fast Eddie added that part in The Chick, so I don't know.
