I completely and utterly revise my statement. What the hell. What the actual hell (which is likely where the cultist is now, but that's neither here nor there).

Dear God this is jumping off the slippery slope into grimdark. At this rate the third arc is going to have to be a Breather Arc just to have the character recover from this.

The next arc will be a much more light hearted breather.

Mostly, what I meant was that there is a figure in most of their backstories who ends up bringing them into the Cult, and doing something to them with Hatred Battle Booster.

@Krika: Not quite Grimdark yet. There's still enough hope and humour to keep it in Earn Your Happy Ending territory (Which is just the way I like it.)

@Nick: Stating my theory now, Haine is Yami Marik having survived the shadow realm and possesed a small child.

Also, it seems my theory of the cultists having had their Nihilism forced upon them was correct.

There is a theory that, given Yami Marik says he "was waiting for the Pharoah for 1000 years", that what was inside Marik is not one hundred percent human.
