[up]Still not easy to get. Are you seriously suggesting the P5 bankrupt themselves reviewing crap?

[up]No. Just saying it's not totally impossible to get. And it's not crap.

It has explicit underaged lesbian sex.

I'm sorry, but we really don't need that here.

[up][up]I never said it was impossible. Nor I ever specify Katahane as crap (I was being generic). I am just pointing it is impractical for the P5 to actually watch/read/play detailed everything they review by themselves.

And Katahane was vetoed purely by visual content, anyway. No one really need to play to see the images.

Katahane alone would take days for the P5 to play if they played it all day long and didn't do anything else, plus they wouldn't find the stuff considered pedo pandering until near the end. They'd just be really bored unless they happen to be personally fond of really slow, fluffy stories.

Do you expect them to read every work that's out there that they need to review?

[up][up][up]If you really want a second opinion, give me those days and I'll give you one, lime pie. Promise. I myself have a copy of Katahane. Will give it a look from time to time and, with a bit of patience, I'll see what the fuss is all about.

[down]EDIT: I don't think anybody is putting your judgement in doubt willy-nilly. My belief is that lime pie thinks your decision may have been a bit too rushed, but that's all. In the end you guys cannot expect to have everyone agree with your decisions every time.

I certainly saw enough of Katahane to help me make my decision. Visual Novels are not an especially easy thing to get and figure out for those of us who are not familiar with them, which is why a lot of visual novels get their own thread... we appeal to the tropers who may know the works to get us the information we need to cast an informed vote.

Now, I'm more than willing to explain the reasoning behind my votes, and have made an effort to do so at the time I cast them. I don't mind if people request more information on how I made my decision. However, none of us are required to give further explanation, and if those requests are not made in good faith (accusations that we're just mindlessly playing "Follow the Leader" would be a prime example of not making the request in good faith), I will be less inclined to explain myself at all.

While complaining about the P5, I wondered if Fifty Shades needs its own thread.

[up] It's on the review queue, and if a panel member determines that it needs a thread, we will create one at that time. Until then feel free to continue discussing it, we have diligent and much-appreciated volunteers gathering links to the discussion of various works and adding them to the Page-links thread for easy P5 reference.

Just for reference, to the best of my understanding the rationale for getting rid of porn isn't a "Porn is bad" thing, but more of a "editors have proven incapable of discussing the subject in a non-creepy manner". Whether you agree with it or not is going to vary from person to person, but this isn't due to a "porn is evil" moral guardian crusade thing, it's "if we can't discuss it in a way that doesn't make the wiki look bad, we can't discuss it".

That is a good point to make, and I will add that I've voted to cut works I enjoyed but were obviously pornographic, and that I've voted to keep works I dislike that didn't quite meet the "Is it primarily porn?" guideline.

So I don't vote to say "this work is bad or good". I vote to say "this work is or is not in violation of our guidelines".

2940 Yen is actually like $37.07 American (still a fair amount, but if you throw money at digital services on a fairly regular basis, it's still possible). /off-topic

[up][up]Being that this is an unpaid position, I most certainly don't have $37.00 to spend on a piece of entertainment that I wouldn't normally purchase of my own volition.

That kind of money is better spent on other things. Like gas, food, Diablo 3, heroin...

My sister got violently ill last night (and then MATT CAIN PITCHED A PERFECT GAME WHAT EVEN), so I didn't get a chance to go look at Fifty Shades. I'll be doing that today, even though we've gotten some opinions on it. Since I've also read The Story of O, I'm hoping I can make some relevant comparisons on that particular defense. I DID dig up an Entertainment Weekly article on the phenomenon, and a few important points to note is that:

- the story is touted as "mommy porn" a few times, which could mean literally ANYTHING, it's just a buzzword.

- apparently it's a big-selling Kindle item, because women are embarrassed to pick it up in stores. That might be a little more relevant to us.

As far as Fifty Shades goes, the whole themes of control are going to disturb quite a few people (I realize it's a BDSM work, but there's still something unnerving about the whole thing).

Is there going to be an, "adult" alternate trope site now?

I get that people are trying to clean up the site, but some things that aren't porn are getting caught up in the process (like the Mind Rape trope, and a few of the more erotic-but-not-quite-porn works).

Is all that going to just disappear now, or is the information and work going to be shunted off to someplace else?

[up]Wrong thread, no (on the adult site thing), and we shouldn't discuss the rape tropes here.

It's also really unsafe BDSM. No safe words and the part where the lead ignores her guy's request is played as hot, not sexual assault. Usually I wouldn't bring this up, but it's being touted as like a mainstream gateway into the lifestyle.
