The Joker is kind of all about showing how social norms and morality are bullshit and he mocks them through violent comedy, so maybe he does in a weird way not really think what he's doing is wrong because good and evil are meaningless to him and he only calls himself evil because that's how our non Straw Nihilist opinions see his actions.

Well one of my favorite Joker stories, is in Joker's asylum # 1 where he takes a studio gameshow hostage and well, i won't say what happens, because's it's a brilliant twist. But that story does show Joker's twisted sense of justice.

Trust me Joker's asylum is great. It's nice to get a lot of insight into the rogue's issues. I particularly love Two Faces story, where he meets a guy who was scarred in his right side in a fire accident. There is an important lesson about attempting to help without being condescending.

The guy just assumes that Two Face just getting scarred is what made him evil, and doesn't seem to realize Harvey's specific abuse at the hands of his dad snapped his mind and that the stress of being D.A in Gotham played a role in Harvey's breakdown.

I’ve read the Penguin one and I wasn’t a fan. I’ve never been on board with the psycho interpretation of penguin

It sounds like Joker's had a really big awesome moment in Justice League Rebirth - he singlehandedly took down the Legion of Doom when he learned Lex Luthor was working with The Batman Who Laughs, the one villain Joker absolutely despises. It was really interesting to see the Clown Prince of Crime like this - he made a very, very good point about BWL and how Lex is a moron for trusting him, and then he just walks out of the room, having alerted the Justice League to the Legion's location (I think).

Well give the Joker or Two face or Scarecrow ones a shot. They are a fun read.

Oh yeah, then The Batman who laughs mini is right after. I always felt it was a missed opportunity that Bats never interacted much with the Knightmares. But now this story will remedy that at least for TBWL. It's going to be interesting seeing TBWL and Joker interact more, because even when Bats has lost his mind, he still can't predict what the Joker will do.

What’s the big deal about this Batman Who Laughs. I haven’t read metal yet but from what I’ve seen he comes off as just another 90’s edgelord villain.

Apparently, he was also too stupid to realize the guy walking around with a Nazi symbol was actually a Nazi.

And excuse me while I laugh at the idea of Nazism being incompatible with being an American.

Then again, this is the Joker so maybe that's the point.

Also, Nazi Cap never boiled a baby alive and made the father eat it.

The Batman Who Laughs is tl;dr a Batman/Joker hybrid. And yes, it is edgelicious

It is kind of detail minimizing to make that claim. The process of making Hydra Cap literally involved warping reality and history.

The Batman Who Laughs is from the Dark Multiverse, a nightmare universe where your worst fears are materialized in the forms of evil versions of yourselves representing said fear.

The Batman Who Laughs is basically Batman’s fear that killing the Joker will end nothing taken to its extreme conclusion by turning Batman into the Joker.

Ya also have a Doomsday Batman representing Batman’s fear of Superman & his trust issues, & a Cyborg Batman representing Batman’s fear that he is too attached to Alfred & is relying too much on his tech.

Funny thing, The Batman Who Laughs is a hit character now considering his one-shot issue last month or the month before that was said months biggest seller.

For how Edgy he is, it is rather surprising how well he's taken off. I really hope to see him and the other Knightmares in Animated DC.

Really him being edgy is expected. You can’t make a Batman+Joker hybrid & not make him act edgy. It’s impossible. It’s like making a Spider-Man without any wisecracks, you can’t do it.

Also I’d like to see more of the Dark Multiverse in general too. A lot of potential there.

Also, Dark Knights Metal will go down in history as the "biggest Bat Screw Up EVER!!".

Actually, the reason the Joker hated the Nazis was 1: they kill people who are insane. 2: many of the most famous comedians at the time were Jewish like the Marx Brothers. The American line was because the Story was during WW 2 so it makes sense. The Joker just assumed Red Skull was being edgy wearing a Nazi outfit.

Batman and Joker are DC's most popular characters right now, so combine them into The Batman Who laughs and you have a winning formula. He's meant to come of as an edgy try hard character because he's literally a nightmare/fear given life, and Dark Nights metal had a metal as in music vibe to it. So yes, Batman hating Rock and Roll is now canon. In the newest mini, There is a a Punisher Batman hybrid. I have no idea what his origin or what his actual goal is so far. and there was supposed to be a Bruce who grew up in Arkham. I'll say it again, i like the evil Batman AU because we've had too many Evil Superman or Evil Wonder Woman.

When you read The Batman who Laughs, do you imagine Kevin Conroy impersonating Mark Hamill or Mark Hamill impersonating Kevin Conroy?

More like: Batman: An unstable multiverse where my own worst fears as well as the other members of the league have come to life? Should i consult any of our experts in this field or even inform anyone else about this? Nah i'm sure forcing the Joker to help, kidnapping Baby Darkseid, and going right where the Court of Owls want me to without any sort of plan is the best thing to do.

I really don’t get the love for TBWL. He’s just modern day Joker with a goth skin slapped on, which means he doesn’t even tell jokes. He just laughs while killing people. There’s nothing interesting there for me. I don’t even see Batman when I look at him. I see Joker mixed with Judge Death.

I think the general appeal of the Batman who laughs is seeing Batman being evil. Fallen heroes are popular, Darth Vader for example.
