Double-checking, I was thinking of 2's Commando rather than 1's Soldier. And double-checking his upgrade tree, yeah. A good chunk of them are percentage increases to damage or percentage reductions to cooldowns and so on. It's really rather weak as upgrade trees go. It has those kill skills and other "perk" style upgrades scattered within as you mentioned, but it's dominated by % modifiers. The other characters aren't much better either from what I can tell.

It behooves first party publishers to provide top quality productions that make their consoles worth buying. Nintendo and Sony have both produced amazing games to sell us on the PS 4 and Switch.

Microsoft, however, is different. Microsoft has decided to act no better than a grasping third party "AAA" publisher. Even worse, it set the tone of a generation and contributed - perhaps more than any other company - to the nasty normalization of excessive monetization.

It's Microsoft's fault that videogames are bad.

The title blames Microsoft for video games being bad, and I won't be able to watch the video for at least another 2-3 hours, so yeah, a summary would be nice.

Yeah, I'd like to remind people that posting a video without context is against forum rules. And no, YouTube video titles are not enough context; the mods have thumped such posts before, so always remember to include a summary of what's in the video.

I haven't watched it myself yet either, I was just about to finish my break at work when I saw this had gone up. Didn't even think to add anything.

Is the summary given by Jim under the video good enough for that? I'm going to add it to my post.

Does he mean that AAA video games are bad in general? Or does he mean just Microsoft's and Xbox's offerings?

[up] The former is what he's been saying for years now. If I had to guess with this video and its description, it's more about Microsoft popularising and normalising practices that are more predatory than usual in lieu of actually producing quality video games. Microsoft had very little exclusives this gen compared to the genuine libraries of top-shelf stuff Sony and Nintendo have on their consoles.

Just Microsoft's. He also blames them for contributing to the excessive monetization of games.

It’s the main reason I have never bought a Microsoft console. And I probably never will.

Platinum Games almost basically got destroyed because of Microsoft policies when they tried to make scalebound for the system.

And then Nintendo basically saved them. It feels really weird that Nintendo of all people have the world's second best character action team almost locked in to their platform.

I suppose this makes my absolute loyalty to Nintendo and ages old hatred for Xbox Hilarious in Hindsight, doesn't it?

Having absolute loyalty to any game company is dumb.

Nintendo has had its own failings, The Wii U being the biggest recent one. It may not gotten any of the bad predatory thirdparties, but the relatively good ones didn't care for it either, and its marketing was god awful.

Plus, with all the Wii U ports to the switch, there is literraly no need to own a Wii U anymore.

[up]Wonderful 101.

Incidentally, it is just my bad luck that the WiiU was literally the only Nintendo console I ever bought. Granted at the time of purchase the optimal setup to be able to play as games as possible was to have a PC and a WiiU, since the PS 4 hadn't yet built its exemplary catalogue of exclusives, and the Switch wasn't on the radar.

[up] Platinum has stated that they are waiting for the green light to port the game over, which i can see happening before Bayo 3 releases.

Yeah, they're intentionally making the WiiU obsolete in that case. Which I can't blame them for. Mine got shoved in a cupboard behind some plates from when I went on holiday back in April, and it's still in there.

Now that I recall, I did actually buy Warioland 4 on the WiiU, one of Nintendo's best and most underrated platformers ever.

The GBA version was basically the first proper video game I owned, and still the gold standard to which I hold other platformers.

I play Wii U for Megaman Battle Network and other old games

I'm still sad about now playing games 2-6 back in the old GBA days :'D I think I either never found them at store or there were some other stuff I just had to get first

I know loyalty can blind one from truth. That loyalty was a long time ago. Still persists, but I can recognize when Nintendo makes mistakes. They really need to get rid of their litigation boner. Maybe embrace achievements too.

I kinda dislike what achievements have done to gaming overall though. I don't mind them, but yeah :p

don't forget xenoblade X too. I'm literally using my wiiU right now to replay the only other game that hasn't been ported yet.

I kinda agree, achievements just kinda devalue games sometimes and people tend to drop them after getting them all, like they only care for some meaningless score. I don't even remember the last time achievements or trophies gave out tangible rewards.

Nintendo are probably against that since it de-emphasises just having fun with games.

There are a couple Nintendo games that have achievements. Said achievements aren't really tied to your profile or anything, though, unlike achievements on Steam or trophies for PlayStation.

nintendo's policy is to let developers decide to put them in games or not on game by game basis.

Again with, Xenoblade x, game has 749 fucking achievements in it. It's actually so over the top it actually reach what probalby was the intended point of achievements : you just occasionally get shit while playing that makes you go "oh, neat" and slightly enhances the game experience.
