A thread to discuss the Trails Series of video games (known in Japan as the Kiseki series). Adaptations of the games are also on-topic.
As of May 2024, there is no specific spoiler policy for this thread, which means the the default forum spoiler policy applies. In summary:
- Spoilers for non-episodic works should remain tagged for a minimum of one month after the work's release.
- Spoilers for episodic works (including any DLC) should remain tagged for one month or until the next instalment releases, whichever is shorter.
There hasn't been much good news in months for people who want more Legend Of Heroes VI in English. Xseed has apparently been translating the second installment for PSP, but no release date yet, and they apparently have not had much sales success. Meanwhile, there have been no official statements about releasing the Windows versions in English.
But thanks to this Andriasang article, I learned that Aeria Games (best known for MMORPGs) plans to release the Trails in the Sky trilogy internationally on smartphones. Some online and social functions will be added to the basic gameplay. No clear indication of what international smartphone platforms just yet.

...Well, at least we're getting it, I guess.
I would take a fan translation over the disaster that NISA does to their games now.
quite literally this is what they did to Ys VIII◊[1]◊[2]◊.

They said they're getting localizers who have worked on the Trails series before so I'm curious who they mean by that.
Ys VIII after the patch was fine.

This song needs more love. The patch still didn't fix stuff. I'm with Memers on that one, I'd rather play the PSP Fan Translation of the Crossbell games over whatever NISA does.

Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...Hey guys did you hear the news?
Donald Glover everything is on fire picture
That's a yep. I think I'm going to finish Sky 3 and just... let it go there. No point in holding out for a miracle.
I'm glad about the potential Crossbell port, since I've been tossing up if I should play them or not before moving onto Cold Steel I after Trails 3rd. This helps in making the decision a bit.
If there is a PC release of the two, and the translation sucks, isn't it likely given the existence of a couple of fan translations already, that one of them would make a translation patch?
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobI just got buried to death in Moukis hidden in Rolent's sewers. Damn Bleublanc and his endlessly-multiplying yonic dust monsters.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Tread carefully, NIS. Tread very, very, very carefully.
After Ys 8, they have to know Falcom fans have them on thin ice. Even so, Sean Chiplock's returned as Rean, so I hope that means they got the rest of the cast back.

This song needs more love.I've never seen a stream go from skepticism and worry to outright cheers so fast.
Even so, I'd rather keep myself skeptical. It's NIS America we're talking about, they always find a way to fuck it up.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...I know everyone's talking about Cold Steel III, but I wanted to let you all know that in my Sky SC journey, I just defeated Gilbert by using a meatball on him.
Gilbert lost to a meatball.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!A fitting end.
I did the same thing.
Because I couldn't beat it otherwise, since Kloe had my Quartz for Death Scream. And I couldn't get it no matter which combination I used.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobYeah, it was partly out of necessity, but also really hilarious.
And I now know how I intend to deliver the final hit upon the final boss. Bonus points if I proc the Doom Baker achievement with that hit.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Funnily enough, Kloe beat the first and second game's final bosses.
The first was the best. I had 3 turns before its attack went off and it had 116- HP left. So I had Kloe just use Sieg. Cue the small bird blowing up a building-sized giant mech.
I do the same thing, in all three games Kloe's been by far the most powerful member of my party.
Any assassins trying to get at the future Queen of Liberl will get a nasty surprise. Too bad I'm under the impression Kloe's canonically one of the weaker party members. Ah well, I can have my headcanon :P
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobPretty much. Kloe's one of the best party members in the trilogy due to how strong her Arts are, but Zin's probally the strongest canonically. Maybe with Mueller or Renne as close seconds.

Kloe's so good not having her around whenever possible in the first two games is practically a self-imposed challenge. Her Arts are so good that it's only in the 3rd where physical attacks and stat-boosting gear become overpowered that she wains in usefulness.
In late 3rd, Zin can be an absolute Earth Wall-spamming, S-Crafting speed demon of destruction. Helps he's got the third-best single-damage S-Craft in the trilogy if tweaked right.
3rd is absolutely great for challenge runs and solo playthroughs by its very nature.
About half of my playtime so far has been using the Steam Link, mainly because its comfortable lying on the couch while playing Trails.
Today was the second time I had to swap back to the computer though. The first being that menu in SC where you have to input a name that doesn't agree with controllers.
I was really struggling with the Fishing minigame in 3rd, before realizing the reason I was missing so many inputs (particularly on big fish) was probably due to latency.
I /think/ that was the case at least, since after I swapped over I didn't miss a single input against the Fishing Baron.
I wonder if he might have been coded with a handicap though for multiple losses. First time he got 1100~, second 750 but in the third attempt he failed every single big fish and only scored 178 note

"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobSo I'm about a third of the way through Chapter 6 of Trails in the Sky the Third, having just beat Cassius, and holy shit was he a fuckin' battle. It reminded me of the fight with Loewe from SC, where the boss didn't really have any particular tricks or buddies, they were just an incredible asskicker and made sure you knew it. An All range super, powerful single target nukes combined with an Ao E circle and AT Delay line hit, and the ability to roid up his speed and attack just to top it off. Dude lives up to the hype, and this was on normal mode! Every other boss was something of a challenge, but he was a definite step up. Also, his info blurb was imposing as hell, "Understands the true nature of all things". I guess the game agrees with Xin's assessment of him from SC.
Also, enjoying the Moon and Star doors for the extra stuff they give for the characters. I've now seen all of the Moon doors, and I'm nearing the end of the list for Star doors, only about 5 or so left.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=13239183440B34964700 Alfric's Fire Emblem Liveblog Encyclopedia!Quick SC question, what order do I rematch the Enforcers on the Liber Arc?
I just fought Bleublanc, and I assume it'll go Walter -> Luciola -> Renne like the towers, but I just want to be sure to bring the right party members.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yes, that's the right order.
This song needs more love.Goddamn Luciola was a PITA. She was the easiest by far back when I fought them on the towers but here she killed me several times.
Is there any real counterplay to her shadow duplication other than afflicting her with Speed Down and using the stat debuff marker to know which is the real Luciola? Because that feels more like an exploit than an intended strategy.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
Shall we see this as the start of a very dark age?
I know the Crossbell games are way overdue, but... God. They will butcher the game.
EDIT: P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-PAGE TOPPER!
