A Hans redemption plot is a no-go. I don't know anyone, besides Helsa fans, who honestly thinks Disney would try to redeem Hans. They could introduce his family, but Hans himself is never getting redeemed.

I don't expect Frozen 2 to give Elsa a major love interest. The most we will probably get is some subtext and Ship Tease, but even that seems like it's pushing it. I fully expect just more Anna+Elsa fluff with sprinkles of random background Kristanna.

[up] Merida is considered a Princess and she doesn't have a love interest.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think there's anything particularly "out there" about having Elsa have a female love interest. Back when the original film came out? Yes. But that was years ago and things have changed in media. Disney already has some background LGB characters in their media anyway.

[up]I issue i have right now is that Elsa have zero friends at all, even at the end of the movie with exception of Olaf, Elsa need interaction of any romantic parner she may have would look like satelie love interest by definition.

Cross-posting with the Disney/Pixar thread:

For the first time in forever (see what I did there?), we have a (very unofficial) first look at Anna and Elsa as they'll appear in Frozen 2, through the magic of Reddit and Russian calendars!

(I almost said "Let it leak" since this is a leak, but that would have sounded too dirty.) tongue

You know Frozen isn't the only Snow Queen based movie to get their own sequels. Some previous adaptions have done sequels as well for some reason.

From the Frozen 2 leak, I hope the poor quality is why the coloring looks off. I'm not looking forward to another few years of "Is Anna a brunette, redhead, or blonde?"

I honestly think its lighting. The pinks and oranges make me think it could be set at a sunset.

I don't know if this is legit or not, but I like Anna's design in this anyway. Makes her look a bit more mature. Maybe there is a timeskip? (still assuming this is reliable, of course)

Maybe this is an old, fake rumor but a supposed synopsis of the film is: "Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf heading deep into the forest to learn an ancient truth regarding the kingdom and Elsa’s magic."

I tried digging for any new "leaks" but couldn't find anything. Just a lot of fan-speculation that Anna is pregnant (???). It's fascinating how under-the-wraps this sequel is. We had a lot more info on Gigantic, Moana, and Frozen by this time.

I have also seen the speculation that Elsa will get a girlfriend, but I don't know if that was just relaying the Internet campaign or if there were more serious leaks on that subject.

By the way, I had not heard about Anna being pregnant, but I think that would actually be awesome. I don't think we have ever seen princesses get pregnant (their children come already grown up when they have some).

[up] Anna getting pregnant or Elsa having a girlfriend?

The latter seems like a non-issue considering how many cartoons have same-gender romance. The only issue I can see is maybe the international market as some countries ban such depictions.

Anna being pregnant? It recently dawned upon me that Disney films end at weddings, with kids only turning up once they're grkwb, so I would like to see a pregnant princess character... Just not Anna, not right now. Maybe a 23-25 year old Anna who's settled down with Kristoff, but I can't canonically see Anna ending up pregnant yet. It doesn't fit her arc.

They'll introduce a male love interest somehow, and i expect they may introduce another character with powers

[up] Ten bucks they avoid the issue completely by making Elsa a Celibate Hero. It's a damned-if-you-do situation: Either one is tricky.

I'd rather Elsa have no love interest rather than her having a hated love interest. They could always focus on her character some more, no romance needed. Anna and Kristoff can fuel the romance.

If they introduce a character with powers, I hope it's an older ice-themed female. It'd be nice to have another character for merchandise and I really don't want a fire-themed character in the film. That's such an overdone thing in the fandom. Some random prince with fire powers pops up and swoops Elsa off her feet... I can't handle that being canon. I'd rather have a friendly character with the same powers as Elsa than a character made to contrast her.

Disney tries to appear progressive but ultimately uses any and all loopholes they can for it to only remain surface-level window dressing. Frozen has the first same-sex sisterly relationship as its core heart but one of them is still a princess which the story focuses on primarily, and it still inserts a love-interest after subverting the naive expectation that you must marry the first love you meet. Films like Mulan, and Big Hero 6 tout international representation, but get the country's details and history wrong for the sake of entertainment. The Princess and the Frog features their first black Princess, but she spends the majority of the film in the form of a non-ethnically-descript frog and the third act shoehorns her into a literal princess after some voodoo tomfoolery rules, and with her starting as a minimum-wage waitress in 1920's New Orleans.

I am going to be honest, those types of jobs for Tiana were realistic at the time. I do think complaining about her having to work as a waitress is nitpicking. Also I really don't give a hoot about the complaining about her being a frog for most of the movie.

Sure, Disney isn't entirely the most progressive company, but they're far better than others. They support LGBT in almost all other aspects of their company up to and including Gay Days at their parks. I believe they also threw a fit when N. Carolina passed a bunch of their Anti-Gay laws and basically swore off ever filming there.

I think it's less a matter of 'if' they'll introduce gay characters and more a matter of 'when' at this point. They're bound to cover it eventually. And they're getting pressure every year with pushes like 'Give Elsa A Girlfriend' on Twitter and both actors and audience members pushing for Poe being gay in Star Wars to be canon.

Heck, haven't their tv shows and moves had gay characters before? Maybe not ones that explore any LGBT issues, but I also don't expect Disney to really explore that either.

I think they could totally introduce a gay character for Elsa and just not comment on it. Its a thing. Get over it. And considering how HUGE the original was, the outcry of 'LIBTARDS AND SJWZ RUINS EVETHING!' Will inevitably be drowned out by all the kids not giving a fuck.

I think another ice theme female would immediately lead people to believe they're related somehow, which is a fairly typical plot twist.

Personally I'm fond of a Earth theme guy

I'd really like Elsa to remain a Celibate Hero. They did it with Moana anyway and it worked quite nicely.

[up][up] Earth? Like earthbending? Plant powers? I can't really see it.

An ice-themed Cool Big Sis/aunt/grandma/whatever based off of the "Snow Queen"-looking Elsa design would be nice. I hope they don't actually discuss why Elsa has powers, though. I like it not being important—she just has them, because.

I'm still bent out of shape from Disney taking a comic that took place in Tokyo, and moving it to a made-up mash of San Francisco and Tokyo instead, so they could insert the lowest amount of Japanese representation possible and no one can complain about it.

Actually a lot of people in Japan liked. In comparison with the Shallow Parody the comics originally were.

I understand. Do your own thing, and all. I just wish that, since this is technically Disney's one chance to tackle Japan in an animated movie, they would've ...... used the for-real Japan.
