The game came out in 2012 and they're still producing DLC for it. As I understand it, not having played the game much myself, the DLC is more episodic mini-expansions, tabletop-esque mechanical additions, and making more and more countries playable, further detailing more historical events and figures. It's basically an alternate history generator, which you can micromanage as much or as little as you choose.

Also I see the DLC discounted all the time, and hey, if you're actually playing the game six years on, five or ten bucks for actual new content every couple of months seems like a small price to play.

Galactic Civilizations II: Ultimate Edition can be grabbed on Humble Bundle for free. But you gotta hurry, it's only available for while supplies last, or until another day passes!

Visual Novels the Sunrider series, Higurashi When They Cry, fault and Eden are now available gog.com with a 66% discount until May 29th.

I wonder if this related over the recent troubles VN developers are having with Steam cracking down on VN games where Steam are demanding they get rid off any nudity or sex scenes in the game even if the game was approved and allowed on Steam in the past or not allowing the developers to post links to download adult patches of the SFW version of the game?

[up] About that, the aforementioned visual novel developers received another message from Steam telling them to "disregard the previous notice" and that the games will be re-reviewed:

[up][up] Speaking of GOG, they're also offering Unreal Gold for free for 48 hours as part of the game's 20th anniversary.

They're selling the Warhammer 40k online MMO at a 90% discount. My inner cynic says that can't bode well for the status of the game.

Also... lots of smaller, unknown titles there I never even knew existed, such as the Chainsaw Warrior games. I realize that Games Workshop is currently working under the strategy that saturating the market with a variety of cheap titles using the franchise in various ways is bound to generate both a few hits and a bunch of misses, but not to this extent.

Eternal Crusade sucked. Don't succumb to temptation. It's one of the few legitimately Pay To Win games I've seen, where giving them money doesn't just skip a grind to unlock but the equipment is flat out better because it's a hero's masterwork lascannon instead of just a lascannon.

Ouch... noted.

What the heck happened to the original MMO pitch, with the massive open-world battles, territory to conquer, and the Orkz being a trollish free-to-play faction?

[up] Sarge, I'm gonna assume the usual "ambitious objectives/roadmap that fizzled out due to flawed gameplay fundamentals or changes". (Similar to what's going on with Crossout, even though I know the developers themselves will deny or are loathe to admit it—in typical Russian fashion.)

Damn, so tempted to get Total War: Warhammer... (*sees paid DLC only having a 33% discount as opposed to the base game's 75% discount*)

MOTHERF**KERS!

Would also go for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, though I'm assuming the DLC is mainly for multiplayer. Either that or go for a throwback with the first Dawn of War game series. Or just wait for the next sale on historical Total War titles that may or may not come... Or wait to get Empire at War when it goes on sale at 75% discount (you can thank OfficiallyDevin's Empire at War Rebel Let's Play for that).

So many choices on a small budget... Jeez.

[up]Yes, the WH 40 K Space Marine DLC is purely multiplayer, and those servers are dead. But the singleplayer campaign is definitely worth it now that the game is being discounted. It's an OK story too, but be ready for a bummer of a cliffhanger that will likely never be resolved.

EDIT: Devin seems as if this is his first time playing Empire at War, he makes several mistakes that shows he doesn't have much experience with the AI and the game mechanics. A few things I noticed:

  • NEVER rely upon the auto-resolve; it's utterly broken and will give hand out the most insane defeats. I've seen several stormtroopers - just stormtroopers - somehow "win" an auto-resolve match against a Rebel base equipped with turbolaser turrets, missile artillery, and T-2B tanks.
  • If you don't have eyes on every corner of the AI's assets, they gain the ability to freely spawn in starships on planets where you lack any sort of reconnaissance or nearby worlds. I've seen a fleet of 10 Victory Star Destroyers pop up out of nowhere, despite the Empire being in possession of nothing but garbage planets and poorly designed base layouts. This one little detail probably cost him a lot of stress during the mid-game. At least it doesn't cheat on the easy difficulty.
  • Kill the fighter hangars of a Star Destroyer ASAP, and a Space Station, doubly so. Even a Tier 1 Space Station can become a menace purely because of the bombers it will endlessly respawn. Oh, and Tier 5 Stations are veritable menaces; they get free Victory Star Destroyers and Acclimators. That can get out of hand VERY fast.
  • Be fortunate he did step into Forces of Corruption on the harder difficulties blind. The Zann Consortium is utterly painful to play against, so much to the point that it's pretty much mandatory to eliminate their faction first before the Rebels/Empire. Their constant Sabotage attacks will become unmanageable, quick.

GoG.com is having another Summer Sale.

The current deal of the day is Fallout 4: GOTY edition, which includes all of the released DLC for only $24.07. Definitely worth the purchase now if you ask me.

People who have accounts on one but not the other and people who prefer not having DRM on their games.

I mean, I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that come to mind.

Still, that was a good discount on Fallout 4 right there.
