Because people write fanfiction about Card Games. I don't know how many people, but they do.

And here is a place to discuss them. And I suppose if you write Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series fanfic, though that's pretty meta (a fanfic of a gag dub?), you could conceivably discuss them here.

Nothing to see here.

I'll just drop this here.

Summary: Yugi saved the world countless times, traveled to the past, and befriended a dead Pharaoh. Then he woke up.

Yeah, I know. I'm sure that plot has been done several times, but I haven't seen it done in a Yu-Gi-Oh fic.

There's always the Mary-Sue Parody plot to fall back on.

I'm torn up over the lack of Jack x Carly fanfic.

Ones with citrus content preferred... but a generally feel-good Earn Your Happy Ending WAFF-fic will suffice.

Annoyed that 80% of Yugioh stories are rape or badly done yaoi fics that completely eliminate the card game.

[up] That kind of frustrates me too. Sometimes I want to read a funny Yu-Gi-Oh story, but it turns out to be "random" sugar-high humor, which isn't funny except to the person writing it. Or I want to read a story that has a plot and deals with how two characters interact and deal with life, but it turns out to be anatomically impossible smut.

Also, I'm sometimes afraid to tell people I write Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction because I might get lumped in with the terrible yaoi. I may write pairings with two males, but they aren't central to the plot and I don't write smut scenes.

Another thing is that the same pairings/sets of characters get used over and over, usually in the same plots. I like to put different characters (they might not necessarily be in a romantic relationship) in a story, just to play around with figuring out their personalities and work out how they'd act around each other in unusual situations. It's like, I already know how Joey and Kaiba act around each other. I already know how Yugi and Kaiba act around each other. But how would Kaiba and Rex Raptor act in a certain plot line?

The elimination of the card games doesn't bother me, since it wasn't about Duel Monsters at first. But maybe there should be some sort of game going on, like Poker or Backgammon or something.

But, the card game is practically a stable now. You have to have some sort of game. I think someone needs to write more hetero fanfiction with games. I might be that person.

I just got a crazy idea for a what-if story.

What if Seto's (biological) father never died? What if Noah never died? And what if Seto and family just moved to Domino, maybe in early high school and still ended up meeting Yugi and friends, and Noah?

I've seen it done before (except in that person's story, Seto and Mokuba were still orphans, but they got adopted by a nicer family), but I would have done it differently than that writer did it (because I'm a different person, probably). I think I might write this, someday. Right after I finish the five other projects I'm working on.

I wonder if anyone else writes fanfiction based on the Abridged version.

Cross posting an old idea from the crossover thread:

So I'm suddenly bristling with ideas, some I'm considering trying myself, some I'm putting out there for others to try

I'm not sure what this one is, but here it is anyway:

A Yugioh fic. Actually an Intercontinuity Crossover fic among the original series, Yugioh GX, Yugioh 5 DS, and since it's there as well Yugioh Zexal.

The premise is initially the same as the original series, with two twists. The wielders of the other millennium items (sans Yugi and Bakura) are characters from other series, represented by villains from that series as well, and dueling, while still important, would be downplayed.

Essentially, imagine what the series would be like if Card games never took it over.

Right now, for the millennium wielders inclued Aki Izayoi, serving under Divine / Sayer, and wielding the Millennium eye(haven't decided if she will use it like Pegasus) and Asuka Tenjoin, serving under Saiou/ Sartorious, and wielding the millennium necklace / Tauk.

Basically, Yugi will still have to win the other items, but from villains from other series, who claimed the items, and gave them to their own chosen ones. It will essentially be one big battle royal, with Duel monsters being only one of the chosen weapons instead of the primary one.

Haven't decided who else I will use, and there's still a-lot of GX I've never seen, to say nothing of Zexal, which I've barely watched.

Plus the card game will still be important at times, and outside of the series, I don't fully know the rules, so this one may be one I let someone else pick up.

It's still on the table, cause my knowledge of the actual game is still lacking.

Man, it's slow in here.

Anyone ever went on the path of creating original Duel Monsters cards, whether as upgraded/alternate forms of existing ones or wholly new ones? I've been working on making an "ultimate" form of Black/Dark Magician Girl that was inspired by how in the anime-only Doma arc she seemed to be the de-facto leader of the Duel Monster spirits, and especially by her Dragon Knight version.

I'm only into the Abridged Series, so I found a rather fitting fanfic, Seto Kaiba's Kickassia.

My work is here. Current main fic: Tengen Toppa Gurren Solvernia

I'm considering writing a fic once I'm done with some other things. Geneal idea of it is:

  • Main character mains Plants. She'll start off with just a collection of random Plant monsters, and her 'upgrade' would be a Plant Archetype I came up with.
  • MC's other persona/duel spirit, who's pretty much an overly-aggressive and not at all a good guy. And would probably use Rose cards.
  • The rival, an insect user who, again, uses generic Insects, then gains another made-up Archetype, 'Crawlers'.
  • Would probably be based more on the original anime seasons, with synchros/xyz's being some uber rare special awesome type of card play that very few people can utilise for... some reason.

Not much of a plot beyond that, though.

I'd like to recommend "Game Over", by Moczo.

Yes, that Moczo.

Read the first 10 chapters of Game Over. Moczo never disappoints. [lol]

... So, about original cards. I want to know what you guys think of the following concept. Note that some of the cards used are manga-/anime filler-only; it's also safe to assume that I am using the manga-/anime filler-only properties of the cards that do exist in the TCG/OCG.

  • Step 1: Fuse Claw of Hermos with Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, the final and strongest form of Red-Eyes Black Dragon, to create Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon Sword (basically a souped-up version of Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword).

  • Step 2: Fuse Fang of Critias with Tyrant Wing to create Tyrant Burst Dragon, then "equip" this card to Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, creating Blue-Eyes Shining Tyrant Dragon with the combined abilities of both.

  • Step 3: Fuse Eye of Timaeus with Black Magician Girl to create Black Magician Girl the Dragon Knight.

  • Step 4: Tribute all of the previous three cards as Fusion Materials to special summon Black Magician Girl the Chaos Tyrant Dragon Knight — basically composed of Black Magician Girl with her armor styled to resemble that of both Black Magician of Chaos and Magic Hierophant of Black, wielding an even more impressive version of the Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon Sword, and riding a Blue-Eyes Shining Tyrant Dragon.

On a side note, Black Magician Girl the Chaos Tyrant Dragon Knight has five unique supporting spell cards – three of which individually invoke the powers of one of the Three Phantom Gods, one which invokes the power of Exodia, and the last one invoking the combined powers of all four.

Why yes, it does look like a recipe for Game-Breaker / Story-Breaker Power. That was deliberate! evil grin I guess it should be obvious that I'm irked at how only Black Magician got any true evolved forms like Magician of Black Chaos (alt-version: Black Magician of Chaos) or Black Paladin, while Black Magician Girl is stuck with her vanilla form and just one anime-only upgraded form.

I'm not a fan of OC-cards at all, but I can put up with them if the fic is about duel monsters, something that is very rare nowadays.

[up][up] Yeah, I understand how you feel. I don't remember the last time I saw a not-horribly-written continuation fic that doesn't marginalize the card game and its Duel Spirits to near-obscurity.

The Shadowchasers series is basically what I'm referring to with this. Made up cards do show up, but the dueling is very spot on and dramatic.

Oh, yah, Shadowchasers is an amazing series for a Yu-Gi-Oh fan (being a D&D fan as well does hurt in the slightest). And the author (while not actually writing a Shadowchaser's story at the moment), updates fairly regularly (which is always a boon).

I really like the sub-community it created by it's popularity, although many of the spin-off Shadow Chasers fics died off in throes.

To my sadness. Still, I can only hope that more go the way of Risen Nemesis.

Incidentally, I made this thread for any discussion that might be had on the Shadowchasers series. Not that I expected much, if any.

Anyone else familiar with lalunaticscribe? Writes a whole lot of (pretty good) crossovers, such as Dedication Through Light And Darkness, The Paths of Destiny and Restructer Revolution. Along with a whole lot of vanilla fics, as well. Tends to favor the Yu-Gi-Oh side a bit, but otherwise good. Also a shameless Yami/Yugi, Ryou/Bakura and Marik/Malik shipper, but that never gets distracting (to me anyway).

So... I just discovered that DeviantArt's resident "Azureshipping" (Seto x Anzu/Tea) and "Revolutionshipping" (Atem/Yami x Anzu/Tea) clubs accept "Azurevolutionshipping" submissions (Seto x Anzu/Tea x Atem/Yami). That got me into wondering... What are the chances for the first and third shippings to be made possible without derailing the characters?

Note: This may be obvious, but just to cover all bases, you can do Character Development without falling into Character Derailment.

In other news, I came up with what I think would be a good choice of "Pharaoh's full name" for Atem (or rather, a Captain Ersatz of him): Neterkau Hoteptawy Nunmose Hahkheperthut Tutankhhor Atumhotep, or "Divine of Kas, He who brings peace to the Two Lands, born of Nun, eternal is the manifestation of Thoth, living image of Horus, Atum is satisfied". Note that the nomen is "Tutankhhor Atumhotep" as a single unit; more than one pharaoh had one or more of their full name components being such compound names, like Thutmose III.

And if you're wondering why I picked "Thoth" for the throne name, it's a reference to Mahad/Black Magician's Undying Loyalty to his Pharaoh; Thoth is the Ancient Egyptian god of wisdom, knowledge, and magic.
