3 wicks, 0 inbounds. Well, with a name like Murdering Over My Shoulder that's not really surprising; I Thought It Meant negligently throwing something sharp over your shoulder, and accidentally murdering someone.

Well, guess not. The article states it's about "possibly" a murder, and when the protagonists come across this possible murderer, he looks over his shoulder at them. I think I see a trope in here, but the description needs work, and the name could also be better.

If this is something we want to keep, the wick count can go up easily by properly cross-wicking the examples. With 13 examples on the page, there really should be 13 wicks from those works as well as any indexes.

That being said, I'd definitely change the name if we keep it.

I just wanted to point out that this trope is only about seven months old. Since no one bothered to make the crosswicks, I doubt anyone knows about it, and it probably hasn't picked up many new examples since launch. So I don't think you can assume that the unhealthiness is due to the name. The unhealthiness may be due to the failure of the launcher(s) to promote the trope.

I'm not defending the name, though. This trope might very well be a candidate for rename in addition to needing more love.

Murder Over The Should Glance? I think the name hits most of the important points, just not in the right order to be coherent.

Fight smart, not fair.

[up] That sounds good. And also, bump. We got a whopping one inbound over the past two-and-a-half months, so this trope still isn't working.

Yeah, this could use a rename.

There is now a single proposition crowner for this trope here.

Yep, I also think a rename is called for since the current name makes me think of the meaning that Spark 9 mentioned.

Murderer Over The Shoulder Glance sounds like an alright name to me too.

I do not like any of the options — trope is specifically about the murderer being spotted in the act and being shown over-the-shoulder to obscure the victim.

For that matter I don't like the page image either, but that's another topic.

Calling crowner in favor of Over-the-Shoulder Murder Shot.

Over-the-shoulder shots look more like this and are primarily used in two-way conversations, like so. The key principle (as with anything with the word "shot" in this context) specifically involves the camera's perspective—in this case, the camera being positioned to frame a shot from directly over another person's shoulder (as well as to focus on a subject that lies over that shoulder, not the person providing the shoulder). It has nothing to do with characters turning around and peering over their own shoulders.

What's generally being outlined in the description and page image wouldn't accurately reflect what "over-the-shoulder shot" is actually supposed to mean.

Added a link to this thread and the YKTTW archive to the discussion. Looks like we're done, nice job.

Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
