I don't really get any tri vibes from what we've seen of Survive
Since Survive seems to be firmly rooted in the premise of people trapped in the Digital World and not about any of its consequences on the real world, past or present.
This seems more like that portion of Savers where we see Kurata's first visit to the Digital World that ended up with him becoming the Big Bad of the show because of the shit that happened to/around him in there.

Well Death is a sensitive topic you can easily botch in a multitude of ways.
Either it’s too edgy, bloody, sudden, not dealt upon, dealt upon too much, list goes on & on.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I have to admit the reason I'm intrigued by this game is the suggestion that human characters can actually die which throws in a lot more tension as to what happens and I feel there's a lot of interesting narrative potential they can work with, both with the human cast and Digimon.
However, that said, there's always the possibility of it being handled badly so eh I can see why someone would have trepidation.
I don't think the franchise has ever answered the question of what happens when the human partner dies before the digimon partner.
We've seen it the other way around a few times, but the closest we've come to human dying and partner living is poor Oikawa and Datirimon, and they really didn't explore that.
I gotta admit, it's an unexplored frontier for Digimon: there have been human deaths, but if this is really where they're going, it'll be like nothing they've ever done before.
One Strip! One Strip!Daigo definitely ded but I don't recall if we ever saw his partner at all in the rebooted world
Digimon Survive is simply the result of the Audience Shift that digimon has been going through over the past few years. Namco Bandai is gearing the series more towards teens and adults then Children like in the past, though its still possible for Kids to play and enjoy them there.
Its just Digimon has been doing better as result of being marketed towards an older audience.
Its why Evangelion has to be advertised to adults in japan despite being a Shonen Franchise, because trying to market it as a straight shonen actually had it have piss poor viewership during the usual kid hours on tv.
Watch SymphogearIs that Audience Shift actually true?
Like wasn’t the last anime Applimonsters a kids show?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It was, but it bombed in ratings even Worse then any previous season before, it didn't even chart on Tv ratings.
Digimon Story Cyber Slueth is pretty much the closest Digimon has gotten to Shin Megami Tensei in terms of being rather What Do You Mean Its Not Forkids territory.

Watch Symphogear??? It did well enough with ratings that they moved to a better timeslot to get more ratings
The games, yes, the anime is a bit harder to determine with Appmon's recency (skip to 0:51 in the video for the relevant bit)

Huh no wonder they are just doing Adventure sequels for the time being.
Might as well give fans what they want after like 5 shows of varying increasing disinterest.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yeah my understanding is that the Appmon anime was consistently in the top ten even above Pokemon.
Cyber Sleuth started the Audience Shift and has stuff like children being eaten alive by Eldritch Abominations, organ trafficking from comatose bodies that leaves the people in the digital world without bodies to return to, an unexplained ghost girl trying to kill literally everyone because it makes her happy, a human character being bound, gagged, and fused to a monster during a boss fight with audible and visible struggling when it attacks, and the main character slowly killing themselves every time they do a plot-required thing. (The staff said the main reason for the shift is the franchise just didn't sell with kids anymore.)
Survive seems dark in a more personal way than that, but the sheer amount of dark post-shift is kinda off-putting to me, though the new World games seem slightly less dark than CS or tri.
I am more interested in Survive than Cyber Sleuth, though.

The Protomen enhanced my life.Don't forget the sequel where a bullied teenager has fantasies of his classmates forcibly committing suicide IRL with a simulation playing out to let that happen, the return of that ghost girl, a weirdo mascot who is actively out to kill you, a rich lady is offed by one of the protagonists who had her explosives blow up the physical server her mind was in, and the Eaters also fusing with another teenager girl (with the implication that her body is later completely consumed with nothing left)!

Huh I should really finish Cyber Sleuth.
How dark did Tri get in comparison to all that?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Not as dark in some ways, but there's a lot of angst, Growing Up Sucks, and disturbing moments. Tri had the 02 cast getting defeated in the first 5 minutes and not talked about much until the very last movie, the Digimon attacks causing property damage and death in the human world with the humans believing all Digimon are evil, the cast being forced to Shoot the Dog, all Digimon succumbing to a madness-inducing virus that only a total reboot could fix, the reboot resetting everything in the digital world, rendering everything they did pointless and making their partners forget the humans (they eventually remember though), the return of the Dark Ocean, a mysterious man (possibly a Gennai clone or Piedmon) attacking and molesting characters, the reveal that Homeostasis (the entity that possessed Kari in Adventure) was just as bad as Big Bad Yggdrasil, a Digimon being Apocalymon reborn, and worst of all, a SEQUEL HOOK with unresolved plot threads :p

The Protomen enhanced my life.Remember Ordinemon and its gratuitous butt shots because by god if they couldn't use Ophanimon, they were determined to get something out of it fusing with Raguelmon
god it seemed so freaky at first but then in the next movie butt shots everywhere
I noticed that. Caught a video of the final battle on You Tube & damn there were a lot of assshots. Sure it’s a nice ass but fucking Hell what a butterface.
Also Worst Final Battle Ever. I know that’s hyperbole but damn ya think for the climactic battle of a movie sexology they’d go for something a bit more bombastic and ya know animated. The Diablomon final battle had better animation than that.
Another reminder why Toei Animation fucking sucks.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."You mean nu toei. All digimon movies up to tri were at least well animated, even if the savers movie was rather short.
As for appmon, no it did not reach top ten viewership in japan (even xros wars managed at least 2 episodes or so). I distincly recall it's final episode having less retweets than the tamers rearing of the beelzebumon blast mode episode (to promote the blu-ray).
What it did get was an extremely good position in a top anime of the year poll, showing that at least it had dedicated fans, but unfortunatly it's like most of them are fujoshi's, judging by the fan art...
As for the actual videogames, if digimon survive does well what are the odds of the other games being ported to PC? Next order should be easy since it was developed in unity in the first place, hacker's memory might be more challeging but really they only did to port the Japanese PS 4 version (which includes an upgraded cyber sleuth) and copy paste the translation.
The 20th anniversary Digimon Adventure thing seems to be a sequel, showing the Adventure 1 cast as adults AND having the original character designer back. Hopefully that means better animation too!
The Protomen enhanced my life.Stop saying an entire company sucks jut because they stretch their resources thin, not just being main animators for their own projects, but also being in between animators for dozens of other studios, and having a live action department.
Their animation is no better or worse then every other anime studio that doesn't use Sakuga liberally.

Watch SymphogearAt least Toei has passion for what they do even if it does end up looking unprofessional compared other studios.
I really liked Tri's art style. Felt refreshing.

Interesting to note that even bootleg digimon games can look rather good.

Digmon Survive Aoi Shibuya, Minoru Hyuga, Labramon, and Falcomon screenshots
The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.
Maybe the reason is because it's less like Adventure and more like Tri?
