And dang yeah so many people I know, myself included, have entire decades they don't remember much of thanks to dissociating through them.

I imagine Ruth being completely detached from what ever happened makes it even harder for Rachel because, how the heck can she move on if it seemingly might as well not have happened to the other party.

Much as Rachel Is Right I worry this drags out. I'm also unsure if I want Rachel to have a personal reason to hate Ruth rather than the obvious and open reason of "she is a tyrannical and abusive RA."

Hopefully it gets explained by the end of the chapter.

I'm more pissed she is being openly confrontational with Ruth now. She had no reason to approach Ruth and could have just walked on and ignored her, yet the moment she sees Ruth is looking better, she approaches her and tries to start shit.

Seriously, she is trying to instigate a conflict, as if "How dare she look happy and start feeling better!"

I know Ruth did a lot of fucked up shit in the past, but Rachel is not really sympathetic when she is trying to cause trouble whereas Ruth is trying to make amends. She'd be sympathetic if she just didn't believe Ruth and left it at that, but the fact she is trying to instigate something makes it come across as her trying to make Ruth act like a bitch again just so she can have the superiority in thinking Ruth was lying.

If she really hates Ruth that much, just ignore her and move on with your life. Yet she seems almost insulted Ruth dares seems to be doing better after almost killing herself, and in turn can't allow Ruth to be happy. "Because redemption isn't real, so someone who was an abuser but claims to be trying to change doesn't deserve happiness after what they've done."

Sounds like Karma Houdini Warranty to me: Your past catches up with you not when you're still an asshole, but when you're striving to be better. I don't like that trope very much.

Well, that's why I like(d) it. Ruth was caught and then told her charges "I abused you and got away with it and will face no repercussions."

So Rachel hating her for that, for hating a character I love for a perfectly justifiable grievance over actions that character actually did, that's fantastic.
