How did "salty" even become a thing in the first place? I didn't start hearing it in that context till about 2 or 3 years ago.

I think it started in the fighting game community and spread to other games until the meme becane officially recognized by webster dictionary.

I'm not sure I follow what's going on here. Is Sal realizing Malaya likes Marcie? Realizing she likes Marcie? Getting some Three's Company-esque wacky hijinks in mind as suggested ?

I think she's mad because she realized Becky and Joyce are right that pretending to like Marcie will... do something? I don't get it.

It's very simple. Marcie wants Malaya. Malaya wants to piss off Sal. Sal wants Marcie to be happy. So the Lesbian Love Sleuths suggest that Sal pretends to be into Marcie, thus prompting to Malaya to try and snatch the Marcie away from Sal, probably resulting into at least one doinking.

As for why Sal reacted the way she did, she probably thinks of Joyce (and by extension Becky) as an airheaded, naive busybody. The fact that they managed to come up with a simple, obvious solution* that Sal couldn't think of kinda rocked her world.

Wouldn't Sal being into Marcie just make Malaya want to annoy her even further?
