The description for Web Original says "A work that originated on the Internet." I'm not sure where you're getting "can only exist on the web" from.
Poorly worded. I meant that we have the "sub-namespace" (so to speak) webcomics, do we need one for webnovels as well?
And would we change it if it was later published in paper?
Rhymes with "Protracted."We don't move webcomics to comic books when they get a print edition, so I suppose not. The question would just be what the primary medium is.
I thought web novels were Literature. Since, you know, all the text.
... I didn't come up with this myself, but now I don't remember where I got it. =/
she her hers hOI!!! i'm tempeLiterature.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Wait, really? I've been listing The Salvation War on Web Original.
And if so, I'd like to know the dividing line between Literature Web Original and Fan Fic please.

Fight smart, not fair.I'd favour classifying Web Novels as Literature since that's what they are, basically, sans ye olde paper.
@Deboss
Er, the dividing line between Literature Web Original and Fan Fic is that Literature Web Original is, well, either original works or licensed/official tie-ins/expanded universe.
Fan Fic is fanfic because it's unofficial derivative work, not because it's on the web. Fanfic existed quite well before the internet did, after all.

Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)I'd like to point out that, logically, we should divide up Web Original into more meaningful categories, but we made it at a time when it was less clear what people were going to do with the internet. Then again, there are still plenty of new things to do with the web, but as it stands, Web Original is odd in that it lumps video, text, occasionally Flash Games (depending on who's editing), fora, and really anything else that might be on the web (except Web Comics).
Because subcategorizing those would rapidly lead to hair-pulling and nitpicking. We do have some additional namespaces which could function as media categories, like Machinima, but those only get made when there's enough interest to make it worthwhile.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The Salvation War I would say is Literature. Stuart has even said that he won't write it if he can't publish it, so the online forum threads are just a sort of preview of the finished work (a first draft, if you like.) (This was on the server where he's now hosting it.)
Most people put Flash Games in Video Game/ now.

Keeper of The Celestial FlameI don't think I've ever seen someone put an interactive game that was on a computer in anything but videogame. I also don't see a reason to.

I was wondering where a web-novel would go. Technically it should be under web-original, but that's supposed to be more for things that can only exist on the web. So would it go under literature, or do we need a new namespace?
