General Digimon Topic

I just wish video game original didn't mean video game exclusive. They introduced a lot of cool designs in the video games, the Bemmon and Grimmon lines notable among them, and never did anything else with them.

I'm sure the exclusives will be shown more often eventually. Sistermon Ciel was in the latest vpet. Does anybody know all of the video game originals? Besides the ones already mentioned, I know of Hudiemon, the Eirismon line from Rearise, and the one from the game made in China. Is there anymore?

I actually really like how Tyranomon X and Dracomon X turned out, Renamon falls into the overdesigned bin like 90% of all X-evolutions but I do like the emphasis on it being more animalistic.

I like Crusadermon design though i'm disappointed that a rookie didn't make the cut though it is negated by the fact we're getting two other Rookie Digimon getting X-Antibody forms.

The six x Digimon that were not from the contest will be in the new vpet that focuses on the x Digimon. The background color determines which version they will be in.

Quick sound off of my opinions on the new Xs:

• Minervamon: Took me awhile to parse that picture, and I didn't care for it when I finally did. Really weirdly chibi-fied.
• Crusadermon: Like a lot of the newer designs, it's really shiny is a way that makes it hard to tell what's going on, but it's cool once you get there. It's building on Crusadermon's original look in a natural feeling way.
• Dracomon: While it looks good, trying to make a Rookie stage seems badass feels like the wrong way to go about it. Which is a problem a lot of the X Rookies have.
• Renamon: Overdesigned is right. I can appreciate what they were trying for, but no thanks. And the hind legs at a 90 degree angle to the rest of the body because they chose to put it a pose where you won't logically be able to see the entire design and then just twisted the anatomy until it fit.
• Tyrannomon: Hell yeah. Probably the best any member of the Tyrannomon family has ever looked.
• Bellestarmon: This one took a design that was already a bit much and turned it into a contestant for female armour bingo. And the image is hard to parse. And that overdesigned bullet wouldn't fit in the gun. Overall, makes me afraid of what they might do to Sakuyamon.

I'm looking forward to Diaboromon X, though; it's hard to imagine how they could screw him up- even if it's super spikey and/or overdesigned, I feel like that would really be worthwhile variation on him.

Huh I thought Minervamon just got a bigger sword, did’t notice she became a chibi.

I can’t even tell what’s going on in Renamon or Bellestarmon’s images.

Though fuck yeah for Diaboromon X.

I wonder when her Champion & Ultimate will be X-fied.

Huh okay so they just took away her skintight suit & made the armor around her shoulders bigger.

I like it, myself.

I don't hate it as much as Bellestarmon X, but yeah, 'ridiculously big shoulder pads and gloves, and very little material anywhere else' is not a good design choice anywhere outside of a Kill la Kill-esque 'this is meant to look completely absurd' thing.

I don't mind Beel Starmon X for how nice her wings and headgear look. I think all the problems in her design are present in the original (the outfit is certainly worse, though). It is a hard image to parse.

Tyranomon X looks great, and I'm a big fan of the Tyrano's so this is a welcome surprise - but I am sad that it likely means we won't get Dark Tyranomon X or Master Tyranomon X. I don't like Tyranomon -> Metal Tyranomon, I feel like they've cementes that as the primary line and jettisoned the other forms. His design fits Guilmon X really well, though, if he were a Virus type he'd fit better between the two.

Renamon X is too busy. I enjoy the fact that it is more bestial, but it is too overdesigned for a Child. I think Dracomon X strikes a fine balance. Sakuyamon X feels like the opposite direction that Renamon X went to, so it's ill-fitting.

Remember when Piedmon was turning the DigiDestined and their Digimon into keychains?

Imagine if he also reanimated them as life-sized, articulated plastic minions of his. With Angemon being attacked by living dolls of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon and T.K. and Kari being stalked by Tai, Matt, Sora and the others who have been turned into plastic zombies. (Think Kai from Kung Fu Panda 3 or the Sapphire Dragon from Xiaolin Showdown)

To summarize:

• Frontier is not bad because the kids transform into Digimon this time.

• The kids are all one note and not very interesting.

• The tension between human and beast digimon is only told never shown.

• The English dub voices for the evil Spirit Warriors are terrible.

There was that one OVA where the bad guy's intensifying conflict between the beast and human type Digimon to wake up the evil birb.

But it's technically non-canon and extraneous to the series so YMMV on how much it actually contributed to the show's themes, worldbuilding, and whatnot

I like Billiam's reviews because he cuts to the heart about each show's strengths and weaknesses. He's pretty much right about the characters being weak compared to Adventure and especially Tamers. I think the only interesting conflict of character was from Takuya's attempt to keep his past self from entering the Digital World, but the lead up to it isn't very good and is founded entirely on the heroes losing to Duskmon if I remember correctly.

Eh. Frontier was always my second favorite after Tamers (Until Appmon came and took over as my favorite, pushing everything down by one.) but I can see why people didn't like it. I have to disagree about the dub voices being bad though. Yeah they were silly but I wouldn't call them bad.

Most of the early dubs are pretty grating to me now. I haven't seen Fronteir since it first aired, but I find it hard to watch Adventure or Tamers in English anymore.

I watched Frontier both in English and Japanese last year. The dub voices are fine even if the rest of the dub isn't very good.

Well, I cannot see Skull Greymon as anything other than an skeletal Cyclomon now.◊ Strange that the latter hasn't been shown able to evolve into the former in the over 20 years they have been around...

Probably not intentional.SkullGreymon has two eyes, but Cylomon has only one. The latter in this case is actually named after the cyclops.

Cyclomon lost one of its eyes in canon tho. And, no matter what, the resemblance is more noticeable than that between Skull Greymon and Greymon...
