Besides the energy, I can now pinpoint why I loved the first two seasons: I could swallow the cutesy mannerisms because they were constantly being parodied and subverted. Now the "daisuki" and "kawaii" are played straight and it feels heaped on, like too much sugar or sweetener^note Due to an inherited trait, some sweeteners taste bitter to me when they are too concentrated, dunno if you think that relevant. Nice to see some university yuri, though.

We had a glimpse of yandere Chinatsu, but nothing came of it.

I gotta say that 'I AM AHO' shirt was just epic funny, I wonder if the multilingual Double Entendre was intended. Aho means idiot in Japanese , A Ho is well a whore in English. I do like how only the idiots actually liked the shirt.

Episode 5: What the fuck is a back-hip circle?

It seems like it relies more on the legs than the back and hips though? Which seems like cheating, but also like maybe I could do that.

Take note, Chitose's delusions this episode was remarkably tame, compared to the first two seasons. She only had a minor nosebleed here, where before there'd be pools of blood already.

Yep, we didn't even get to see Akari's detachable Odango Hair, they just cut away.

This whole shift reminds me so much of Hayate No Gotoku S2's shift from S1, stripped away all the meta comedy and just focused on the rest. I am still torn on if I like it or not.

The severe lack of a Moe comedy and Gochi Usa already fitting the straight up Iyashikei show this season is making me lean over to not liking it. I want to see the Akarin intro, I want to see gallons of blood, I want to see Akari Odango Hair missiles damnit.

On the bright side, this episode was the closest we got to an Oomuro-ke skit. :P

Kyouko's hand seems to have shifted a bit, so it's basically a "did it or didn't it?" cutaway. Not really a cut scene.

And I actually like the bigger focus on the shipping this season.

The manga chapter the whole Kyouko's ribbon bit was adapted from ended just as Kyouko's hand was heading towards Akari's hair bun, so it's not like we lost anything in the anime version

Also, I didn't think Himawari tackling Sakurako could be topped, but then we got Himawari kicking Sakurako. Don't care how unintentional it was because that was hilarious

It kind of is a compliment.

The comedy took a back seat to the light yuri drama this time, but it's always nice to see something good to happen to Ayano, and hey, it's Chizuru again!

Also a bit of a bait-and-switch from the last episode, where the part we see Akari and Chinatsu together are actually them roleplaying (as girlfriend and girlfriend, because that doesn't lead to anything am I right? XD) because Chinatsu wants to ask Yui out.

Then it turns into an actual date anyway (complete with an Oomuro-ke cameo of Nadeshiko and her friends). Kind of worried that we might see the return of the dreaded Chinatsu kissface but that situation kind of turned into something else entirely. Karma is a b*tch, ain't it Chinatsu?

That said, that sleepover. We lost the manic comedy for this? I think it's a bit of a fair trade.

Guys, I can't do this anymore. This episode was too much.

Too much Ayano getting the good fortune with TOSHINO KYOUKO she deserves is a bad thing? Take note, in the previous two seasons, her crush for Kyouko was treated in the same vein as anything remotely yuri-related: as a source of gags.

San-Hai's treated it reasonably straight though, and while it's no longer a source of straight comedy, it's now really really sweet.

But oh man, the date of Akari and Chinatsu, as well as Chinatsu's sleepover with Yui... Both Yuru AND Yuri covered, yeah.

It was too much for my heart. Go, Ayano, go!

This season is really yuri. Ayano recognizes the fact that she has a crush on Kyouko without being a tsundere all the time, and Yui actually likes Chinatsu. I really like Chinatsu and Akari's friendship this season. It's so good. I was disappointed in Chinatsu for trying to forcibly french Akarin again, but she finally got what was coming.

Easily the best episode of the season so far.

It was all datemania in this episode. Ayano and Kyouko left me with a fuzzy feeling. I was wondering if that foursome in the Akari and Chinatsu do cute things montage was Nadeshiko and friends, cool to see that it was. It was fun to see Akari be the deliverer of a joke this time around. That Mirakurun trailer was interesting. Chinatsu and Yui was also pretty cute. Nice to see that Chinatsu is totally not going to steal a kiss even though she had a prime opportunity. Looks like Chizuru and Kaede are going to be a part of next week's episode. That should be fun to watch.

The voiceless Chain of Deals section with Rise was too cute, as was the Chizuru/Kaede segment.

And Kyouko and Sakurako in the same room together is way too much genki to be allowed.

Also the Sakurako dream. Daamn, subtlety just got kicked out the window and off the cliff.
