A Game of Gods: Infinities

Go To

It has been a year since the final challenge took place.

It has been a year since the traitorous creature known as Omega was exiled to a place of void an nothingness. It has been a year since an unlikely group of beings fought their way free from the clutches of their captors, the enigmatic Nomads, who had forced them to take part in a bizarre series of competitions for their own amusement. And it seemed that, for a time, the Nomad's machinations had ended, and the people of the myriad realities were free to live their lives free of divine interference.

They were wrong.

Now, a year after the final Challenge, strange new forces are beginning to conspire. Old and new beings alike will find themselves caught up in a brand new quest for survival and freedom among unlikely backdrops, a quest that will bring them to the edge of... infinity.

Hello, and welcome to the signup thread for A Game Of Gods: Infinities. First of all, thanks for taking an interest in the thread, and I hope you'll sign up for this game. As the old Forum RP hands are familiar with, all the standard rules apply- autohitting, godmodding, ghosting, metagaming, etc. are unacceptable like in any other game.

Challenges

The basic premise of the game is quite similar to last season, with a group of heroes and/or villains taking on challenges, often pitting them against heroes or villains from another universe. To begin with, we will be working through a glut of challenges leftover from the previous round, but after that people will be able to suggest and implement their own challenges.

This season, Two challenges will usually run at once. A secondary challenge will takeplace alongside the primary challenge, giving new layers something to do or an alternative to the primary challenge. This may affect what happens to your character in the long run, so choose wisely!

If you have an idea for a challenge, feel free to consult any of the GMs: Stratofarious, Troydenite and Flanker66. Remember, if nothing else, please try to keep challenges brief and manageable! 2 weeks is the maximum time a challenge should take, and please be sure that you or someone else will be able to see it through to completion.

  • Appearance: (Link or avatar is fine)
  • Universe: (Series they hail from, preferably a timepoint within the series as well.)

  • Abilities/Powers: A list of the various things your character can do. Remember, characters should be at at 2 or under at the Super Weight scale.

And that's about it. We hope that you sign up and get ready for another round of cation, adventure, and drama!

The adventure begins on July 24th, so be ready for Infinities!

Man, I just keep bouncing between character ideas. Hopefully this one's alright and if so I can actually play her for a long while. >.<

  • Name Mio
  • Appearance: Mio-Chan Time!
  • Universe: Needless
  • Personality: An incredibly happy-go-lucky and ditzy young girl, Mio is just about one of the most innocent characters in the series. Due to her nature, she is rather easily tricked by various people around her. She also has a bad sense of direction, resulting in the girl popping up in the strangest of places.
  • Abilities/Powers: Needless Fragment- Power. Being a Needless, Mio is superior to regular humans in some aspects such as overall strength, endurance, speed, and healing factor. With Mio's specific Fragment of Power, the girl can use an incredible amount of physical strength even for a Needless. It also gives her an enhanced physical endurance in proportion to the raw power she can use. She mostly uses her herculean strength to punch or kick opponents, as well as grapple and throw things. Though endurable, she is still susceptible to any attack a regular human is susceptible to, especially if it is ranged since she is primarily a melee attacker.

Always be ready to do the unusual and unexpected.

Abilities/Powers:A very skilled swordswoman, Lyn carries the twin katanas Mani Katti and Sol Katti, which she can dual-wield. She is very agile in combat and is also a capable archer.

Okay in hindsight Marceline is kinda OP, but I think a few minor nerfs should fix that right up.

  • Name: Marceline, the Vampire Queen
  • Appearance: I'm not mean, I'm a thousand years old/and I've just lost track of my moral code.
  • Universe: Adventure Time, after the events of I Remember You.
  • Personality: Marceline's primary concern in unlife is having fun. Constantly seeking out new sights and experiences, the Vampire Queen is a notorious daredevil. After all, it's not like she has much to risk. She's already dead anyway. She likes to play herself off as a dark, sinister figure, but in reality she's more mischievous than outright evil. She errs more towards elaborate pranks and games than your standard villain fare, and just getting a reaction out of somebody is usually enough for her. She can get a little emotional sometimes, and is prone to violent outbursts when upset. A lot of times, it's easier for her to express herself through music than actually sitting down and dealing with her problems.
  • Abilities/Powers: Like most all vampires, Marceline is capable of subsisting off of the blood of mortals, though more often than not she chooses the more humanitarian and much less nutritious option of leeching the color red out of objects. Among her other vampiric powers are levitation, invisibility, and shapeshifting. As powerful as she is, though, Marceline also suffers from the standard vampire weaknesses. A half-minute's exposure to sunlight will melt her into a puddle of greyish ooze, she avoids garlic like the plague, and a single stake through the heart can turn her from one of the walking dead into one of the dead dead. Also she can't beat ghosts in a fight. It's like a whole rock-paper-scissors thing. She also comes bearing her father's battle-axe, which she's long since converted into a bass guitar and is now used more for laying out sweet licks instead of lopping off heads.

Okay, I think if you removed two or three abilities, she'd be fine. Particularly the "raising dead people as servants". How powerful is her regeneration?

Well, the regen's not much of an issue anymore, since I just got rid of it along with the necromancy, as you suggested.

Can you detail the invisibility, shapeshifting and levitation abilities?

Sure thing.

Levitation's pretty simple. She just sort of floats around everywhere instead of walking, because walking's for chumps. Can't really go much faster than running speed, but that's enough. Invisibility's also your standard stuff. If she's eaten anything recently it sort of ruins the effect because people will see, like, a bite of hamburger or whatever just floating in the air. She mostly just uses it to mess with people.

The shapeshifting's a little more complex than that. She can't perfectly mimic people's features or anything, so there's no Invasion of the Bodysnatchers stuff going on. She mostly just uses it to turn into big spooky monsters, primarily this thing.

I'm not sure if he fits the power scale. Mostly his Ghostly abilities. I can ignore the Possession if necessary, but it seems like it could be useful in some subplots (like say taking a Mook in order to infiltrate a building and learn more about what is going on). But it just wouldn't be right to not be able to go immaterial.

  • Name: Dusknoir
  • Appearance:
  • Universe: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon post-Sky, after his Heel–Face Turn.
  • Personality: Dusknoir is a fairly easy-going person that respects others. He prefers to plan out everything he does and gather as much information as he can before acting, but will act if the situation demands. Dusknoir was a lying, deceitful person who'd do anything to achieve his goals. He did these things because of his unparalleled loyalty to Dialga. While he is still good at such from many years of practice, Dusknoir has turned over a new leaf after having identified his true feelings with his journey to stop Primal Dialga with Groyvle. Now with Primal Dialga removed and normal Dialga restored, (and Dusknoir being pulled out of his destroyed timeline), he has chosen to live a better life with better goals as Dialga would now want of him. Dusknoir now wanders to live up to his new ideals, make up for the suffering he caused, and do good in the world.
  • Abilities/Powers:
  • Moves
    • Fire/Electric/Ice Punch: Dusknoir knows all three elemental punches to apply as needed against the right enemy.
    • Confuse Ray: Dusknoir fires a chaotic ball of yellow. If it strikes, it grants Confusion on his target, disrupting the target's senses. Strong willpower can quickly overcome the effects of Confuse Ray.
    • Shadow Ball: Dusknoir charges a ball of ghost energy in his stomach and fires it, his strongest attack.
    • Shadow Sneak: Dusknoir launches a solid shadow that travels along the ground. Though not a very powerful attack, Shadow Sneak can be difficult to detect in areas of low light due to its color and silent movement.
    • Shadow Punch: Dusknoir punches the air with both fists, sending a fist shaped shadow energy attack.

    • Ghost Powers:
      • Immaterial: As a Ghost, Dusknoir is capable of going Immaterial. Dusknoir's body becomes faded and nonphysical. In this state. Dusknoir cannot attack and cannot be attacked physically, and he can pass through matter as though it wasn't there. However, matter filled with energy can cause Dusknoir great pain. Lava will badly burn Dusknoir and energy barriers will stop him. Magical weapons can naturally strike Dusknoir in this state. This ability isn't free, it costs energy to maintain an immaterial form.
      • The Afterlife: Being a Ghost, Dusknoir is in tune with the Ghost World and can travel back and forth to it. If the worlds he visits in Infinities have Ghost Worlds and he has a reason to visit, he might just be able to do so, though it might be particularly dangerous for him being a Ghost from another dimension.
      • Telepahty: Studying from a Psychic TM, though he never went all the way through, Dusknoir managed to learn how to communicate with the mind as a Psychic Pokemon does.

Okay. While the Afterlife is fine as an ability (as long as it isn't used to ghost), the Immaterial and Possession powers have to go. Also, did he ever use Fire Punch? Because Bulbapedia says otherwise.

Would being unable to attack at all while Immaterial work? He wouldn't be a Ghost without being able to phase through matter. That would be like playing a bird that has its wings clipped for the RP.

On which note, its not like he would be the only one that can get through any kind of matter. Edward can alchemize through anything that isn't alive. His drawback being he is very obvious doing it, but he can do it for the entire party. The other part is well, not really all that bad. Handicap so he can't even fire a shadow ball while immaterial and its a minor defense skill which takes a few seconds of concentration to before. (Dusknoir can't phase out for one second to dodge a sword and come back with a punch in the next, or he'd have done it before. It isn't an excuse to insta-dodge physical attacks.).

Dusknoir knows Fire Punch implicitly, he doesn't have it in the game due to Game Mechanics. If Dusknoir has one, he has all three (Dusknoirs start with all three punches). The only move that I'm not using that he had and would probably work in RP (I excluded moves which just don't translate well into RP) is Will-O-Wisp. Because he has Fire Punch and its not all that useful as an RP ability. See The page for Dusknoirs . Dusknoir sits at level 49+ minimum.

Though if you don't want me to cover multiple elemental bases it isn't that hard to wave off the other two punches.

Yeah, they can talk... to other Pokemon. Because the main character is a Pokemon themselves, they can understand what the Pokemon was saying. If he was human still, he'd just hear "Dusknoir" or "Gengar" and not the actual words.

Some Pokemon are able to speak to humans via telepathy though, as shown in the anime, though it greatly depends on the typing and if they're Legendary (because Legendaries always do that regardless of typing), and Ghosts are shown to talk via telepathy. It's a really off-chance, but it's the closest thing I can think of to a Pokemon talking English.

That, or we can justify that the Nomads are using Translator Microbes on the Champions, and thus English becomes Pokemon and vice versa.

Fluttershy could easily talk to Dusknoir without the Translator Microbes, because of her ability to communicate with animals.
