Eh. I'm willing to be surprised. There's probably nothing pre-release that can convince any one of us that this movie was worth the time. I only fear Rotten Tomatoes getting the final say on that for a lot of people.
It seems, at the very least, they're exploring Woody more and staying true to the cast while adding to it. That's really all I can ask for with these films in the hope that they don't become a Franchise Zombie.
If "this movie should have been TS'2" is the largest criticism we can muster that's probably a good thing.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Why is Slappy in Toy Story?
I might have said this before here (can't recall): I think Toy Story as a concept is interesting enough to merit continuing the series in some form, though Toy Story 3 also felt like a perfect conclusion. Personally, if it were me, I'd make a spin-off or a TV show or something.
Having said that, I do think this looks interesting enough that I might very well end up seeing it.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"Toy Story 4 - Official Trailer 2
I'll be honest, I wasn't too fond of the "To infinity and your mom." joke in the teaser trailer because your mom jokes are rather overdone and they have been since the 90s. It just doesn't strike me as the clever kind of humor if you know what I mean, but I digress. Not everything from the trailers makes it into the movies though.
I'm not entirely sure about Bo either. It feels like she's moved on from Woody and that makes me a little sad. I was hoping she'd retain some of her romantic side but for all I know, she might. Nobody can possibly know everything about a movie just from watching the trailers. I'm probably a bit too nitpicky, having grown up with the first Toy Story. I'm thinking it's quite likely that this movie was written for the new generation of kids who haven't gotten to see any Toy Story movies in the theaters. Anyway, that's my two cents, feel free to take it with a grain of salt.
Storybooks and junior novelizations are coming out, so beware of spoilers!
The Protomen enhanced my life.I watched a read-along of the books over on the 'Tube, it goes pretty much how I expected it to.

The only thing I worry about is overstepping the trilogy. Three movies for a series is typically where things should be called. The best storylines are often used up by th at point, so that by something like a fourth movie, tropes are either being reused or overdone. Taking how Dreamworks has performed as an example: the first movies do well, the second ones are often viewed to be the best in the series, the third can hit or miss - sometimes they’re just as good or better than the first, sometimes they suck - and the fourth, if there is a fourth? Well, it’s rare for a fourth movie in an animated franchise to get a good reception, especially if the third movie has an ending where things should have wrapped up for the series. Fourth movies in most cases end up like shows like The Simpsons where it’s clear the franchise is only continuing because it’s profitable, not because it’s a story worth continuing.
The cold never bothered me anywayI didn't know Voldemort liked movies!
The Protomen enhanced my life.I'm positive you're joking, but really, I meant the recently-disavowed John Lasseter is getting a "story by" credit. I just didn't want to type out his name on account of how he's essentially the scum of the earth now.
I mean, on one hand, I'm guessing the whole idea of bringing back Bo was probably his idea and he based the initial storyline on his relationship with his wife which in theory is sweet. But on the other hand, he's, again, the scum of the earth now and they probably chucked out his stuff minus the core idea of "Woody finds Bo after so many years," so...
Not sure about what Rashida Jones brought to the table, but in this time and age when people are starting to think "hey, maybe we shouldn't take these ladies for granted," they probably thought it was only fair that she got some credit as well.
Any further thoughts?
Remind me what he did? I know it was some sort of harassment but don't remember what level
Inappropriately touching women in the work place
New theme music also a boxAnd sexist business practices in general, iirc. And zero people stood in the way of his exit, because apparently he was also taking credit (and thus things like residuals) for concepts and works that were not his, and abusing his position to ruin people that stood in the way of his rise to the top.
So, yeah. Asshole.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.
He also fostered an environment where all of that shit was ok in that no one was either willing or able to call him out on his behavior and how it went on FOR YEARS.
Check out the short Purl which came out shortly after Lasseter got canned.
There's no question that Lasseter did some great work, and whatever work he did for the Toy Story credit is probably pretty good.
But this is another case where a great artist is also an ass in real life who thinks he can get away with it because he's "indispensable".
Haven't heard of any critical reviews for this movie yet, but I don't think it will be as overwhelmingly positive as any of the previous three films.
Actually, there are now a lot of Critical Reviews for Toy Story 4 now. It's at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now 98%. The reviews are definitely good, and say it’s on a level with the previous Toy Story films.
The more I think about this movie the harder the third film's ending is to watch, especially with Bonnie neglecting Woody in this movie after Andy told her how special he was. I like where things ended up overall but it still feels kind of sour when taken as a whole.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Wow I was actually pretty disappointed. It was good until the ending, which I thought came out of nowhere and completely contradicted the message of 3, and arguably 2 as well.
Those preemptive tearjerker entries were right for once XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.ooooooooh BOY! Now's the time the spoiler stampede comes knockin at the door!
The ending also seemed a lot more sequel-bait-y than either 2's or 3's did... which sucks because this one is apparently the finale.
I agree. There's a sense of 'it's been done'.
