Pent will of course be there as part of the J-Team delegation. Someone else might also get involved...

And I'm available basically whenever so as long as we don't take too long to get rolling I'm up for whenever.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Surprise surprise my fellow humans, humanoids, and non-humans alike! I'll admit I wasn't quite as busy with my life as I thought I was going to be, but then again that's because I under-estimated how long approximately 1.5-2 years of paid training would be. Figured that even if I'm still not as available as I used to be, I could still have fun contributing some smaller side-stories if anyone's interested. Even got myself a new character to mix things up a bit (and more than likely going to have Mark return at some point, even if only for a little while).

Here's what I've got so far for this new character and their main pokemon:

Name: Travis Renault

Age: 19

Gender: Cis Male

Ethnicity: White

Appearance: 6'0”, pale and kinda scrawny. Dull blue eyes, faded black hair, clean-shaven. Dresses either in typical lab attire at work, or in an outfit consisting of a green knit cap, black jeans, green hoodie, black and gray sneakers, silver watch, and a white and gray backpack on his off days.

Organization Ties: Pokemon Global Operations Project

Region of origin: Lilycove City, Hoenn

Backstory: An old friend of Mark Stroud from several years ago, Travis used to share Mark's boisterous attitude and unyielding determination as a kid. Everything would change however when Travis was hit by a wrong-way driver while he was still recovering from a persistent running injury. While he would survive, Travis would ultimately be left with a permanent limp that made it very difficult to run or perform feats of agility. It would be months before Travis would find a renewed since of purpose, developing a strong interest in technologies that benefited both humans and pokemon. While he currently works as an understudy (read: lab aide in a collegiate work study program), Travis takes some time out of his daily routine to practice training his traveling companion, although he's more of a casual trainer focused on the research and development of practical human/pokemon technologies.

Main Pokemon:

Species: Manectric

Nickname: Tricky

Gender: Female

Ability: Lightning Rod

Personality/Bio: Snarky, aloof, and assertive with a hidden caring side, this Manectric lives up to her nickname as Travis' first (and currently only) pokemon. While her behavior seems selfish and inscrutable to almost anyone but herself, Tricky has always supported her trainer ever since she was a young Electrike, and vows to continue being reliable for Travis as long as possible...even if she's usually just along for the ride and couldn't care less about what's going on.

  • Name: Gabrielle "Gabi" Hudson
  • Age: 21
  • Gender: Female
  • Ethnicity: Caucasian - English
  • Appearance: 5'8" in height, brown eyes, curly brown hair, freckles, round face, tends to wear a beanie, plaid pattern skirt, zip up gray hoodie with gold stripes on it, black shirt. Average build. Carries a bright blue messenger bag.
  • Organization Ties: None
  • Region of origin: Galar
  • Backstory: Gabi was born in Galar but never truly knew her parents, it didn't bother her much, as some blokes knew their folks and their parents weren't exactly the best. She eventually met with an Interpol Agent named Kevin and got along with him very well, eventually being adopted by Kevin. She entered the professional circuit when she was around 15 years of age, and has stuck to exploring Galar, fighting who she can, shouting as many obscenities as she can get away with.

Mons:

  • Species: Intellion
  • Nickname: Bond
  • Gender: Male
  • Ability: Sniper
  • Personality/Bio: Bond was the first pokemon Gabi ever had, and as such the two are very close, he has a professional attitude towards everything but isn't above witty one liners or snarking. However if his past where most of the time he had tears in his eyes is ever brought up, he's quick to lose composure.

  • Species: Thievul
  • Nickname: Jane
  • Gender: Female
  • Ability: Unburden
  • Personality/Bio: Vain, self absorbed, and more focused on nicking everything not nailed down, on fire, or both, one may wonder why Jane even stays with Gabi. Jane's not evil as she is just self absorbed, and Gabi takes good care of her so she sees no reason to leave. Jane will also claim she doesn't care about the view of others, she hates disappointing Gabi, and will claim it's because she's a professional thief, the truth is she just feels guilt.

  • Species: Duraludon
  • Nickname: Kiryu
  • Gender: Male
  • Ability: Stalwart
  • Personality/Bio: Kiryu is described as "Boring" and "Robotic", this is just because Kiryu has some odd ideas about working with a trainer. To Kiryu, it's sort of like a lord and a knight errant, who stands at attention always ready to serve, Gabi's tried to break him of this idea but the language barrier has presented numerous problems on that front, when not under Gabi's watch or off doing his own thing, Kiryu can be found (badly) attempting to sing songs to himself, or preparing for what he calls "A rematch with that big green reptile".

  • Species: Corviknight
  • Nickname: Gwen
  • Gender: Female
  • Ability: Pressure
  • Personality/Bio: Easily the most normal of all of Gabi's mons, despite the knightly aesthetic, Gwen sees her job as being a friend to Gabi and tends to just do her best to help out. She's a confidant that will be there to listen, while others may be off in their own worlds. Gwen also loves a good scrap, and enjoys entering the ring, though she's quick to pull Gabi away from other fights as they're unneeded.

  • Name: Kevin Hudson
  • Age: 42
  • Gender: Male
  • Ethnicity: Afro-Bahamian
  • Appearance: 5'10"Green eyes, above average, slicked grayish-black hair, greying near temples, neatly trimmed beard
  • Organization Ties: Interpol Special Response Division
  • Region of origin:
  • Backstory: Kevin will say his life in Orre was relatively normal, normal family, normal life. Whether or not it was is hard to be confirmed, as he talks very little about it. He joined Interpol when he was a young adult and entered the SRD, working with various teams in situations too hot for normal Interpol response. During a series of jobs in Galar, he opted to move and make a permanent home there, eventually meeting Gabrielle and adopting her. He has continued to work with Interpol and the SRD in several situations, though he expresses regrets they can’t be there for the really big stuff, such as when a giant monster or near world ending event occurs. Priding himself on being by the book and helpful, he’s quite open to hearing the strange or unusual, so long as he is provided sufficient reasoning and evidence.

Mons:

  • Species: Magnezone
  • Nickname: Houston
  • Gender: Non-binary
  • Ability: Magnet Pull
  • Personality/Bio: Houston was a magnemite who Kevin found one day hanging around broken electronics, Kevin was quick to pick them up with an offer of friends and a source of food. Houston doesn’t say much, believing actions speak louder than words, and if the actions involve altering magnetic force or breaking a door open, then that is pretty much a argument.

  • Species: Arcanine
  • Nickname: Dallas
  • Gender: Male
  • Ability: Flash Fire
  • Personality/Bio: The first pokemon Kevin ever had, Dallas prides himself on being a stereotype of sorts of the “Loyal hound”, seeing nothing wrong with embracing it. After all, Kevin has always been loyal to Dallas, so no reason not to return it. The two work well with each other and Dallas more or less is the leader of Kevin’s mon team, and a one man K9 unit when it comes to the job.

  • Species: Gallade
  • Nickname: Bauer
  • Gender: Male
  • Ability: Steadfast
  • Personality/Bio: Bauer is the most uptight pokemon that Kevin or anyone he knows has ever met, believing in duty and a strict code of conduct, if Kevin is Lawful Good Bauer can at times be Lawful Stupid, he’s not a bad person he just has a hard time breaking out of his mindset of rules being rules. He’s also pretty easy to get around with the use of Exact Words, a factor that contributes to his relationship with Wick, and how he’s learned to not make deals or set rules for Wick beyond, “Stay out of trouble!”

  • Species: Gengar
  • Nickname: Wick
  • Gender: Male
  • Ability: Cursed Body
  • Personality/Bio: Wick is easily the most easygoing of the entire team, seeing himself as untouchable as he is a ghost and thus in his mind, impossible to kill, can’t die twice after all. He’s the most likely to go off the rails from a plan, improvising with the words “No plan survives first contact”, this frequently brings him into conflict with Bauer but the two still work together. Notable in that Wick is deeply concerned for everyone else, stating that even if being a ghost is an option, he’d rather not others risk it.

Oh, right! I've been meaning to make a new character for a while.

  • Name: Radio (nickname), Flynn Cooke (real name)
  • Age: 24
  • Gender: Male
  • Ethnicity: [Australian]
  • Appearance: Pale skin, brown eyes, blonde crew cut, navy blue t-shirt and jeans, black trainers.
  • Organization Ties: N/A
  • Region of origin: Motostoke, Galar
  • Backstory:
    • Radio lived in a really sketchy neighbourhood. Most of the people living there were either part of Team Yell or were independent criminals. As a result, he grew up only trusting his family.
    • Then, one night, his parents got into a fight and he decided to run away, finding himself lost in the woods. While trying to make his way back home, he encountered a Steelix. And it was ANGRY.
    • The Steelix then went to attack him, which was when Radio discovered his psychic powers by accidentally teleporting out of the way. He then managed to capture the Steelix while it was frozen in surprise.
    • It turns out that Radio’s dad was a psychic too. After his parents broke up and he and his dad moved away to a small house near Circhester, he started to train with him so his powers could become more powerful.
    • His trait of not trusting anyone has stuck with him though, making it hard for him to make friends. Radio is now an adult, hoping to take on the Galar League one day.

Mons:

  • Species: Steelix
    • Nickname: Shambala
    • Gender: Male
    • Ability: Sturdy
    • Personality/Bio: Shambala is often the leader of Radio’s team. He acts really stoic, a lot like his owner. However, unlike his owner, he does have a genuine soft side.
  • Species: Togedemaru
    • Nickname: Phil
    • Gender: Male
    • Ability: Iron Barbs
    • Personality/Bio: Phil doesn’t like to speak much. He’s smarter than the rest of Radio’s team and a Big Eater.
  • Species: Mawile
    • Nickname: Estella
    • Gender: Female
    • Ability: Sheer Force
    • Personality/Bio: Thanks to her past owners, Estella can often be really stuck-up. She does attempt to slip out of her old habits though and wants to be as friendly as she can.

Okaaaaaaaaaaaay so a lot of stuff for the Galar RR stuff has been hashed out in this doc in particular, but there's still some stuff up in the air that needs to be figured out sooner rather than later:

Gymboree

Three things to do about the gyms:

-Version exclusive gym leaders (potential solution: just pick one)

-Are Opal and Piers challengeable or just Bede and Marnie (potential solution: also just pick one)

- How do we get people endorsements? (potential solution: J-Team has lots of friends in high places and who of those contributes is probably a case-by-case basis)

THE DREADED TOURNAMENT ARC And How To Avoid It

Yeeeeeeeeeeeah the leauge in Galar is a tournament a la the anime's league tournaments. None of us want to do a tournament arc again. Not after -shudder- the last few times. What do?

(potential solution: excising the semifinal part of the Champion cup and just make people fight the Gym Leaders like it's an Elite Four challenge, and go with Alola rules for the Champion match IE: with Leon out of the way it's so hotly contested it could be ANYONE)

Giga Max, Giga Problems

This one is a bit tricky: What are the rules for obtaining Gigantimax mons? Are they treated more like Deltas or Megas or a weird mix of both? Of note is one of Quantum's chsaracters has a Gigantimaxable Pokemon already, so we're going to have to write around that.

Silvally Allies

Similarly, Sword and Shield provided lore indicating the Type: Null line is reverse-engineer-able, meaning plots involving new ones being created can happen and they can potentially find themselves in the hands of Trainers. How do we handle that? I'd feel like an Ultra Beast or Battle Bond-esqe clause would probably work, though only if tied to subplots involving illicit Type: Null.

Eternatus Who?

I need to know who's writing Eternatus ASAP. If it's me I don't mind too much as long as I don't get saddled with Zacian and Zamazenta. But preferably it's someone else we can trust. I ask because they have a role in the Mobius finale and I'll have to talk to whoever takes them on about it.

Questions? Suggestions? Throw them at the mod team and the community! We could stand to figure this stuff out.

We also need to take into account how new people would get in.

One thing I was considering was allowing people to have their mons just happen to have the ability if they want them to be Gigantamaxable.

Gyms (and such)

I think case by case would work!

There are enough organizations associated with J-Team (or affiliates) that a wide array of P Cs could definitely be accommodated, and Sword/Shield also showed that one endorser can sponsor multiple challengers besides.

I think I'd prefer just Bede and Marnie, with Opal/Piers challenges possibly occurring outside the frame of the gym challenge—although on this point I'm not holding any particularly strong opinions.

It'd be hilarious if the entire gym stadium just...changes Day by day, with players picking which behind the scenes

Tournaments (and the avoidance thereof)

Given that there seem to be multiple tournaments on varying days (maybe? rematch canonicity might be kinda unclear), the tournament portion could be written-for or handwaved per player preference

IIRC, both the semifinals and the finals are tournaments—it's just that the finals bracket consists entirely of gym leaders-and-protagonist

And there are two semifinals battles, and three finals battles, not including the Champion bout

So perhaps players could write out/RP either the three finals or five semifinals-plus-finals as they would the Elite Four? Either way, it's substituting the same kind of writing as the Elite Four for a tournament format that is not actually occurring, and the semifinals can be handwaved for whatever reason if one prefers

Giga (and the attainment of such)

...canonically, thus far, Gigantamax status can't just be achieved, but of course this is an RP and we can do as we like, community permitting ~_~

I can see natural Gigantamax Pokemon being obtained as the result of plots incorporating them, in a similar manner as J-antagonists being absorbed into J-Team-teams. (I'm curious to see how we'll handle writing raids, as well! If those are events that occur IRP)

Unless I'm misreading this and the question refers to approval on a meta level, in which case Gigantamax doesn't necessarily mean any great increase in power relative to a standard Dynamaxed Pokemon? Balance doesn't seem like a major concern, from my standpoint.

Unless the other question is a question of maintaining Gigantamax's rarity, which...maybe restrict it via a similar approval system as Megas? -shrug-

Silvally (a recipe book)

Ultra Beast clause seems appropriate to me!

Legendaries (writing tips)

I am available for writing Eternatus! ^_^

Also others have said they are as well, but it feels a bit presumptuous to list them all off here

Gym Challenge

This idea was floated a few weeks ago by someone - I think it was Bitter - in the Murder Beast Forbidden Knowledge: In an attempt to help alleviate the citizens' stress left in the wake of Rose's plot and the Post-game evil plot, Leon invites the J-Team for an exhibition Gym Challenge.

It would be framed as "A exhibition Gym Challenge in the style of foreign regions"

The J-Team members would still need sponsors and such, but they'd only have to earn 8 badges and beat a selected group of 4 gym leaders and then Leon.

And because of the exhibition format, we can include ALL the gym leaders. Since two version specific + the ones our rivals take over for = the (temporary) E4.

Sponsors and people join in the middle

Well we have the PEFE and various Clavis NP Cs that can be used as sponsors. Frankly, Ren being a sponsor rather than a challenger makes more sense because of his job. So new players or those who join late can get a sponsor ship that way.

Silvally

I agree with a UB clause.

G-Max

I don't have a real opinion on this yet

gym challenges

So, I was just wondering sense the gym leaders are more involved in the games story should we assign people to write for them? Also, should we have characters in the rp schedule when they do specific gyms or continue with it being a drop in thing?

Null/Silvally

I think it'd probably have to be restricted a bit more than the Ultra Beast Clause, but mostly the same principle. My proposal is one per author, in contrast to the UB Clause's one per character. Exceptions can be made, obviously, such as a villain making several copies because they're Evil™, and alternate universe iterations probably don't count as long as they're intended to remain or return to being AU iterations, but overall, they're still significantly rarer than U Bs, and we should make sure there isn't a risk of too many Nulls where there shouldn't be.

So... I guess that means closer to the Battle Bond clause?

Gigantamax

As for Gigantamax, that generally seems more common than Mega Stones, and I feel like there probably doesn't need to be a limit, as long as there's consistency as to whether a mon's Dynamax form is Gigantamax. The difference is more or less negligible aside from what moves it can use, right?

Sponsors

As has been said, the J-Team has friends in high places. Hell, even just within the J-Team you have people of high enough repute to sponsor trainers.

Type: Null and Type: Full

One per author seems a good way to balance it out.

Rarer than U Bs and Phione, but more accesible than Lati@s and such.

I just need one for J-Dan!Shaun so whatever solution gives me that

G-Max

G-Max should be rarer than D-Max, but in the same way Shinies are rare - as long as it's reasonable, it's fine.

RE: Sivally I'm leaning in favor of something in between the two, read: "Ultra Beast Clause but you can only have another PC get one after a very long while in and out of universe", mainly for cases where someone has their original Type: Null user retired and wants a new one.

As for the Eternatus thing here's what we determined about Legendary volunteers in chat, more opinions here appreciated; in absence of enough I will use my own:

-Bitty

-Aster

-Daydre mabye

-Pent mabye

Zacian:

-Swift

Zamazenta:

-Crow mabye

-Blitz mabye

Okay we tried to make the Legendary assignments a Mod Decision last night and... I jumped the gun, some misunderstandings were had, some feelings were hurt, and after talking to several people we decided that Legendary assignments should be handled the old-fashioned way: group coensus. Aster is still handling Eternatus for purposes of the Mobius finale, but who handles it and the doggos as the main writer/character establisher in the long run will be determined by this google form to save us from sifting through chat logs. Please vote on it, it will last as long as it needs to.
