Nano is upon us and I've gotta say, I'm not all that motivated to start my new story. I'll probably just work on the stories I already have going.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessDepending on how much you have left to read, you might be able to get away with starting the story before you finish the original. After all, if you start with the beginning, then you're at least covering material that you have read.
It might call for more editing later, but you'll have a start, at least.
That's fair! I don't think that NaNo requires something new, even if it requires a "novel". ;)
Good luck to all taking part in NaNo! I hope that you have fun and find success in your writings! ^_^

My Games & WritingI haven't even finished chapter one yet, but TY for the encouragement.
Anyway, Today's day 1 of Nano Might do something I'll call a "Double-Feature" where I work on two different novels and have 25k words for each. First one is the novel I mentioned earlier and the second is one I just came up with; a single mom with trauma trying to raise her children.
Saw War Jay 77 do it last year lol
Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."Alright I think I got the prologue sorted out now. It will...
- Begin with a first person dream sequence as its own short chapter.
- then flash forward to a point in the future. (In third person) focusing on a disguised protagonist and a party she ended up in that they explore a certain dungeon.
- which will be interspersed with flashbacks introducing some of the other protagonists as well as herself.
- the flash forward will end with the protag and another member of the party splitting off from the rest and returning to the dungeon, revealing that she and the dungeon are one and the same (and that the adventurer accompanying her is in on it.)
- along the way, the other characters will be hinted at or given an early bird cameo. Teasing later appearances that elaborates on them more, but being more vaguely described for now. As well as an attempt at subtle foreshadowing for the twist.
- the rest of the story would encompass the events between the flashbacks and that expedition. Show how this crew got together and the events that happened along the way. I may even consider ending it with a revisit of that expedition but with added context and new perspectives
This will use the ideas trainbarrel mentioned earlier. I want to ask if this would make a good hook and prologue?
Is a book being featured on BookTok a bad sign? Like a majority of works promoted on BookTok turned out to be at best mediocre and at worse pretty shitty (for example, Colleen Hoover's work are basically glorifying toxic romances).
If I wrote and published a book and said book becomes viral on BookTok, should I be concerned?
Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."It's exposure if nothing else. Honestly, it's premature to be wary of the hypothetical backlash to the hypothetical virality of a hypothetically published book.
Today, I cleaned up Constructive Criticism for housekeeping by removing the nearly-month-old entry that was never updated by the poster, and adding a new entry by me. If anyone's interested in critiquing the work, please feel free to come by at the Constructive Criticism thead.
well I wrote a totla of 4700 words today, prolly the longest I've ever written thus far.
I started writing the 11th chapter of my Web-novel recently.
Rawr.I need to get back into my fantasy, but I have to figure out how I'll go about it since I recently decided to take my current ideas and turn certain chapters into longer short stories contained in the same novel to paint a broader story. And that seems a little complicated, so I may need to step out of my pantser comfort zone a bit
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessFunnily enough, one of my own (still in-progress) works took more or less the opposite path: it started as one short story, then a series of short stories. These were then brought together as a single work, with short interstitial sections acting as mortar between.
My Games & WritingOh Hell freaking YES.
Finally...FINALLY finished the storyline of my WWII webnovel - specifically, the Guadalcanal compaign - after torturous months of slow progression.
God, it's such a relief. I can't even imagine how much more relieved I will feel once I actually finish the whole novel.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Congratulations, and well done! ^_^
My Games & WritingAyyy thank you kindly!
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.W Ould you like to get an editor next?
You can't kill art.speaking of which, I decided to look for an editor for my own book.
anyone interested in line editing my work for free?

I already have an editor, actually.
Unfortunately, he is overworked (he also manages multiple other authors) while I barely manage to reach the upload deadline.
So...yeah, it's mostly my own shortcomings thar's causing me misery.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. It's been near 2 weeks since the editor last replies when she made her trip and still haven't gotten the results yet...
I'm tempted to make another mail to her.
You can't kill art.How long was the trip supposed to be...?
My Games & WritingWell, a site said that she would return on the 17th of March, but aside from a small confirmation on contact by Monday, I still haven't received any update on her progress of what those small tweaks are like, or if she's doing more than anticipated.
You can't kill art. What site indicated that she'd be back by the 17th? Is it one that reliably informs on her movements?
As to Monday, do you mean today? If so, then I'll note that today is, well, still going—especially in western parts of the world. Further, people are sometimes late for one reason or another—if it was today that you were expecting to hear from her, then I'd suggest waiting for at least another day or two.
If it was last Monday on which you were expecting to hear from her, then the course of action might depend on various bits of context: how busy she usually is, whether a wait of a week is unusual, how she's likely to respond to being poked, etc. If she's likely to be fine with it, then a brief message to poke her might be okay.
My Games & WritingLast monday.
You can't kill art.I've been working some more on the story, but I always get stuck outlining it.
It's a Conspiracy Thriller, and not quite sure how to structure it. Originally, I just went with the pantser approach where I discovered it as I went along, but I think this kind of genre is better suited to planning.
It's basically split into two parts. The first part involves the MC investigation what he initially presumes is a murder case. One he nabs the prime suspect, the suspect reveals a greater conspiracy going on that becomes the rest of the plot.
My issue is determining how early the suspect is caught. So far, I plan to have the MC investigating three other people before he figures it out as to not give away the plot too early and because I didn't want to make the killer obvious
At this point, I'm just thinking about ignoring the outline and just write by the seat of my pants just to have some progress made.
Publishing Chapter 11 soon.
Rawr.
Tru, but I would need to read the whole novel so I can understand it and be able to flesh out the plot of my novel. It'll be like watching the first 12 minutes of a movie and then deciding to make a parody of it.
