And I think that took longer, from what I remember.

Id argue Flynn has a leg up on getting new characters introduced if just because every new comic character has to be approved by SEGA. He's no stranger to that process. But that still relies on Sonic Team deciding any of them would be good to include in their game.

Ultimately it depends on Sonic Team.

I wonder if Tyson Hesse would fight to use an obscure character. Did he do that for Mighty and Ray?

By the way, Windii translated the Japanese in-game dialogue of Frontiers. This includes the final boss dialogue, which is...different. Way different.

In the English version, The End is a malevolent deity, proud of its might and considering itself the all-consuming-void. The Japanese version, however, is more direct in seeing itself as the personification of death, and seeing its actions as judgment for true peace - almost in a similar role to Galactus.

It is interesting, to say the elast.

Huh. Neat. I'll admit I find Windii's translations a bit stilted at times, but in this case it's fitting. I wonder what prompted such a drastic change, and how the Japanese fanbase feels about the difference.

Kishimoto states that he rewrote the game for a Japanese audience. However, the Japanese fandom has been critical of the translation because it feels google translated. What I could see, Kishimoto wrote the game to be more overt, with the themes spoon fed to the player.

I see this is reflected in the final boss. Flynn wrote the character, with its otherwordly presence, as more of a character, but Kishimoto went ahead and made him more of a force of nature.

Wow. I mean, I expected the monologue to be different but... Wow. Also, after hearing of it I looked for a video and, sure enough, there is one. Though special mention to Sonic's dialogue before the true final boss.

Conclusion: Good story, shitty game.

Secret Rings was one of the least fun times I ever had playing a Sonic game.

@69930 That's a VERY different characterization! It even seems to be a Graceful Loser at the end as it understands what hope and life mean.

That version also seems way more final on its death.

Secret Rings was such a love/hate affair for me. When it was good, it was pretty darn fun. But it was like any fun I had was in spite of the controls; never because of them. I never considered Black Knight once I heard it had the same control scheme.

Black Knight's controls scheme is nothing like Secret Ring's. In Secret Rings you hold the Wii remote sideways and things are mostly done by motion controls except for the jump and brake buttons. Black Knight uses the Wii remote + nunchuk setup and does most things with buttons, including moving with the analog stick, and motion controls are just used for swinging your sword.

OK. Hindsight. I didn't buy my own games at the time and I wasn't going to spend a birthday/Christmas request on what looked like Secret Rings 2.

For me I'd probably place Black Knight as my 3rd favorite in the franchise behind Rise of Lyric and HD Unleashed.

Really? What do you like about Rise of Lyric? That's not usually one I see in people's favorites.

I like 2006 so I find that interesting.

Also, Black Doom contacted Ian again to gush about Eclipse and Shadow having a family.

I wonder what an actual fight between Sonic and Galactus would be like.

Reading this made me imagine that if Archie Sonic (Specifically before the Super Genesis Wave) met IDW Sonic, I don’t think they’d get along due to the latter’s belief in giving villains a chance given how monstrous the former’s Robuttniks are. Hell I think given Archie Sonic’s world is the prime zone, I imagine he’d be glad to do what his IDW counterpart wouldn’t do and try kill IDW Eggman.

Well there was the one time Archie Eggman threw a huge tantrum and went mad after being beaten by Sonic yet again and we were supposed to feel sorry for him or some shit.
