Banjo: My trainer doesn't understand Monese. All she hears is Piplup, lup lup, Piplup.

Hailee: And what's with this Berry stash near the entrance of this cave? Oh, I get it, you steal Berries from people just like me!

Piplup: One time! I stole a Berry from you one time!

Hailee: I don't understand a word you're saying, but I'm guessing it's complete and utter nonsense!

Piplup: Well- wait a minute. How about this?

-Piplup walks over to her Berry pile, and gives Hailee a Berry-

Hailee: A berry? For me? Thanks!

Piplup: See? I'm not some heartless Berry thief! I'm just misunderstood!

Banjo: Incase you've forgotten, Hailee doesn't understand Monese.

-Piplup gets frustrated a bit, before grabbing a stick and writing what she just said on the dirt, as Hailee reads it-

Hailee: Ah, I get it.

-Piplup then writes down 'Why does everyone assume every single Piplup are selfish, prideful Pokemon who don't care about others' feelings?'-

Hailee: Hey, I never once thought of you that way! Well, I suppose I did, but now I don't after seeing how you did care for me by giving me a berry after you stole mine and... someone else ate it.

-Hailee stares at Banjo, who shrugs with a sheepish grin-

Hailee: Truth is, Piplup, I don't think you're prideful or selfish at all!

-Piplup looks at Hailee, surprised at her words-

Kai: Yeah. Halys, Brie. Brie, this is Halys. First name is also Kai. They're the superhero one. Like, legit comic-book-level superpowers.

Halys: Nice to meet you in the flesh.

-They accidentally prick their finger with the sewing needle and swear under their breath, and the lights dim and flicker. In the dim light, a faint red glow pulses under their shirt, once again as quick as a heartbeat.-

-Kalter can't help but laugh at Ever, and the mood feels lighter for that split second.-

Kalter: I guess there's nowhere better. I'm doing... as well as I can, after going ten-to-one against a superhero. Well, supervillain. They were possessed, so.

Brie: A veritable Kainucorpia. Hey, Halys. Can you describe your home world for me, at all?

Halys: ...hmmm.

-They set down their sewing tools and think.-

Halys: August 2033, on or after the 15th of the month. The world's got an identical calendar system to here, and most of the same geography, but the names are all different. What you know as Unova is instead New York State, Sinnoh is Hokkaido, et cetera. Humans with superhuman abilities like myself are known as aberrants, and they are overseen, employed, and protected by an organization called OASIS. Roughly every eleven weeks, there are eldritch abominations called Harbingers that attack a random part of the world. The most recent was the Eidolon event of July 2nd, 2033. Another significant one was August 11, 2026, in which the Necromancer attacked the town of Cistierna, Spain, under a solar eclipse, resulting in OASIS ordering the town wiped off the map to reduce the aftermath. The event was responsible for the creation of the terrorist organization known as the Revenants, as well as for my own condition.

Kai: ...o-oh.

Halys: Also worth noting that Pokemon are a fictional property in my world.

Kai: -"there it is" gesture-

Halys: Does that narrow it down enough? I can write it down if necessary.

Kalter: Heh, yeah, in my experience, it's alwasy best as a one on one. Though, everyone involved was another version of me, so maybe that's how we made it out alive.

As soon as Ian released Mothra from her PokeBall, Braker grabbed his camera and started recording video of the evolution. All of his Pokemon looked on in awe at what was happening in front of them, while Caboose just glanced around trying to figure out where the music was coming from.

<Huh...?> he asked. <Where's that music...?>

<Shut up, you nitwit!> snapped Romea. <The evolution's happening!>

And then it actually happened.

<Whoa...!> squealed Cuddles.

<That looks sick~!> cried Lithium.

<Congrations~!> cried Panto happily, jumping up and down.

<Whoa~! Romea, did you see that?!> cried Jules.

<We all did,> said Romea, scoffing. <Gotta admit, though, it was pretty cool.>

<Alright, Braker, I think you can stop the footage now,> said Walter.

Braker nodded, promptly stopping the recording.

"That was... incredible," he said.

"Ah," she said. "I understand. Very well, then. To be honest, if I start telling the story I might end up crying myself."

She promptly returned all of her mons except for Ananpi.

"So," she asked. "Where do you think you'll be going next? I know there's a Wild Area around here, if you want to catch more Pokemon..."

Geddy didn't seem to be fazed by either the Mystical Fire attack- or the Ability activation. He just smirked- and then:

<Lost in the sky~...>

<No.>

Helped quite a bit that he was busy focusing on his own psychic power.

Geddy was hit, but instantly took a deep breath to steady himself, releasing pink ripples.

<Hm.>

Another deep breath followed.

Wyndon Stadium Stands

As soon as he saw Koyasa, Braker's eyebrows rose.

"...Oh?" he asked. "He traded in Kamui for the Delphox I saw on TV...? Fitting, to be honest. Wonder who Kim's planning to send in to combat her..."

And then Kim sent in Geddy, holding a Quick Claw.

<Ah, so she's sending in Geddy,> said Walter. <A wise strategy. Orwell likely would have been better though— he's part Dark-type, meaning he's immune to the Delphox's Psychic attacks.>

"But what if the Delphox has Fairy-type attacks?" said Braker. "Besides, you know full well how Orwell feels about battling; I don't think he'd want to do it."

<True,> said Walter.

And then Magician happened. The audience was screaming so loudly that Braker couldn't hear anything Koyasa was saying.

"...oh crap that's right she has her Hidden Ability," said Braker, remembering what little of the match he saw on the television.

<Can I steal that Quick Claw away from that Delphox and give it back to Geddy?> asked Caboose. <Because I will.>

<N-no...! Don't do that-!> cried Cuddles.

Meanwhile, Mystical Fire also hit Geddy, lowering his Special Attack.

<Oh, that's even worse,> said Walter.

"Geddy has Calm Mind, though," said Braker.

<True,> said Walter.

And then Geddy began to sing "Pull Me Under"— only for Koyasa to reject the attack.

"...oh, that's right," said Braker. "Geddy's been so lucky with Sing I forgot it has only 55% accuracy."

<It was bound to miss at some point, just like Peechee's Guillotine did,> said Walter.

And then Psyshock hit.

"She's going to keep using that move over and over again isn't she," said Braker.

<I'd imagine so,> said Walter. <Defense is one of Geddy's weaker stats, so it makes sense that the Delphox would take as much advantage of it as possible.>

And then Calm Mind.

"Aaaaaand there's the payoff for the Mystical Fire," said Braker.

<Yep,> said Walter, surrounded by a still-screaming audience and looking on as Koyasa used Wish.

And then Geddy used Calm Mind again.

"Calm Mind again, huh...?" asked Braker. "You'd think that Geddy would let loose with an attack or two..."

And then it hit him. He smirked.

"...OH," he said. "I think I know what she's doing."

He turned to Walter with a knowing smirk.

<Stored Power?>

"Stored Power."

<Yeah, it was right in front of me,> said the Oshawott. <I tried to run up to it, but it disappeared before I could go back inside.>

~...It was in front of him, but when he tried to run up to it, it disappeared,~ Emcee translated, before turning back to face the Oshawott. ~Well, that certainly is unusual, my friend,~ they said.

<...do you have any ideas as to where it will show up next?> asked the Oshawott.

~What, you mean the portal?~ Emcee laughed. ~Ohhh... I think I'll have to ask Laurie for help with that!~

They turned to face Laurie.

~Laurie, any ideas as to where a portal to Hisui might show up next?~ they asked.

Laurie paused for a few moments, and then eventually...

"Well, I have heard that the energy within Mount Coronet is linked to Hisui," they said. "Maybe we could go there next?"

<Oooh~!> said the Oshawott. <That sounds fun!>

~Well, then! Let's head off, shall we?~ cried Emcee.

April Fools' Day— INSIDE BRAKER'S TV

THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS A (MOSTLY) NEAR-DIRECT TRANSCRIPTION OF THE BEGINNING OF EPISODE 51 OF CRASHBOX— EVERYTHING IN ITALICS IS DIRECTLY FROM THE EPISODE

Eventually, after a bit, Braker and the rest of his mons woke up inside of an extremely dark room. As far as they knew, nothing was inside of it. Braker's mons all groaned and glanced around, trying to see what was in front of them.

<Oh god...>

<What happened...?>

<Oh dear...>

"I... is everyone okay?" asked Braker, eventually standing up.

<I think so,> said Lithium. <But... that took me a bit off guard.>

<Yeah... I have no idea where the heck we even are...> muttered Jules.

<Of course you don't, you—> Romea began, and then she paused and stopped herself. <...Huh. Actually... where are we, exactly?>

<Oh, that's easy,> said Caboose. <We're inside a television!>

<No, I know that, but I mean where exactly are we...? I can't see a thing!>

<Does anybody here have night vision?> asked Charon.

<I don't have it...> said Panto.

<Oh no...> muttered Scramble. <We're going to be stuck in here forever...!>

<Oh, quit it, sadsack!> snapped Romea. <You don't know that!>

And then, from the darkness— a flash of light.

<Yippee~!> cried Cuddles. <We can see!>

<Oh, thank goodness,> said Walter.

The light traveled across the wall for a few moments in front of them, and the group could make out a few things: multiple wires, a red number 3, screws, a green box, and the like. All the while, they could hear someone grumbling in front of them, muttering to themselves.

"Ones, zeroes, ones, zeroes... I don't know, I just can't seem to—"

The voice trailed out. Cuddles glanced downwards for a bit.

<...Huh...> he said. <They sound familiar...>

"Yeah, I feel like I've— GAH!"

Braker's thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of electrical wiring and the sights of bright purple light shooting towards them. It was so bright that everyone had to look away for a few moments. Eventually, however, the group heard some whirring noises, and the lights around them came on.

<Oh, thank god,> said Romea, breathing a sigh of relief. <Finally.>

<Thank you, mister!> cried Cuddles. <Um... whoever you are.>

"Oh, good, they fixed the lighting," said Braker. "How wonderful. Now we can—"

He suddenly turned and saw Snoop glancing up at something in front of him in awe and disbelief. Confused, he approached.

"Uh... Snoop?" he asked. "A-are you—"

Snoop promptly pointed up in front of him and gestured for Braker to look up.

He did— as did the rest of his Pokemon— and all of them proceeded to be struck silent by what they were seeing in front of them.

What they saw was a massive brown computer chip, decorated to the brim with red buttons, wiring, gears, a keypad, and a red number 3 in the upper left hand corner. As everybody watched in awe, a robot hand suddenly came down from above them holding a green square, which they lowered into the lower right hand corner of the chip.

A very familiar green square.

<No way...!> gasped Cuddles.

<T-this is...> muttered Snoop.

Braker glanced up at it for a few moments. He knew what it was. He'd seen it before many times.

He just never thought he'd actually be standing in front of it.

Until now.

"...the Gamecube," he finished.

MEANWHILE...

April Fools' Day— INSIDE INGRID'S TV

ALL QUESTIONS CAME FROM EPISODE 11 OF SEASON 8 OF ONLY CONNECT

On another channel, in another room of the ship, another Trainer was waking up as well, with her mons all by her side.

Ingrid Anderson eventually woke up- and unlike Braker, she didn't need a moment to figure out where she was. Neither did her Pokemon, who, as soon as they woke up, glanced up in awe at where they were. Frida, Bjorn, and Ananpi especially.

The set in front of them was unmistakable. A dark set covered in blue and purple lighting, along with three white desks— two to the sides and one in the center. Strangely enough, though, they seemed to be completely blank. The iconic host, and the contestants of the show, were missing from the desks.

Even so, though, that didn't stop Ananpi.

<YIPPEE~!> he cried, happily running onto the set and jumping around like a crazy person. <I KNEW IT~!>

The rest of Ingrid's Pokemon, meanwhile, all looked at the set in shock.

"...I... I've never seen anything like it," said Ingrid.

<I've never even been on it...!> cried Bindi.

<This is... incredible,> muttered Benny. <But regardless, this is not the time for fun. We need to get out of here.>

As soon as he said that, though, Bjorn and Bitey immediately ran forwards to join Ananpi in their fun of running around on the Only Connect set.

Benny rolled his eyes.

<IT'S REALLLL~!> cried Bitey.

<Cannot believe we are actually here...!> Bjorn exclaimed.

<We're on Only Connect, we're on Only Connect~> sang Ananpi.

And then he suddenly paused for a few moments as a record scratch sound effect played and he glanced around the room.

<Hey, wait a second,> he said. <Where's Victoria? Where are the contestants?!>

The rest of the group looked around, only to find that the set was empty.

<It appears that he's right,> said Benny. <The host and the contestants have appeared to have vacated the set.>

<Oh no... how are we going to get out now...?> asked Agnetha.

<Don't ask me!> Frida responded.

<Well, that's odd,> said Bindi. <Helloooo? Victoria? Ya there?>

Dead silence. Bindi shrugged.

<Huh,> she said. <Guess not.>

"This is... peculiar," said Ingrid. "It seems we'll have to play our own game of Only Connect, then, if we want to get out of here."

<Our own game of Only Connect...?> asked Amity. <How in the world are we supposed to do that? Do we even have the questions...?>

<We doooo, chuu~!> chirped Ananpi, jumping up in the air and holding up multiple pieces of paper. <They're right here on Victoria's desk, chuu~!>

<I suppose you're going to be a contestant, then?> asked Benny.

<Nope!> said Ananpi. <I'm going to be Victoria~!>

<Why are you the host?> asked Frida. <You beat us every time.>

<That's why I'm the host, chuu~!> said Ananpi. <I wouldn't want to just win every time! I want to give you guys a chance to play, too~! Besides—> he looked dead at the camera <—it would get a bit boring, wouldn't it?> ^note  <It definitely would, chuu~!>

Frida smiled. <Well, I suppose it would, then. Thanks for that, Ananpi.>

<Alright, then!> said Ananpi. <Team ABBA is going to be on the left side; Team Non-ABBA is going to be on the right side~!>

The mons— and Ingrid— all approached their desks.

<I'm assuming it's four on four, then?> asked Benny. <With my fellow Commanders and I on one side and Bitey, Bindi, the Lieutenant and the General on the other?>

<Yep~!> said Ananpi.

With that said, Frida, Bjorn, Benny, and Agnetha got up at the desk on the left, and Bitey, Bindi, Amity, and Ingrid got up at the desk on the right.

Ingrid looked down at her desk and noticed a TV screen with the iconic hieroglyphs associated with Only Connect in front of her. She assumed that the other side had them, too.

"Huh," she said. "Alright, then. But... aren't there three people to a team in Only Connect?"

<Ah, why can't there be four?> asked Bindi.

<Besides, the host and contestants aren't here,> said Benny from the other side. <And having more people on each side gives us a bit of an advantage.>

Ingrid smiled. "Alright, then."

<Alright, then~!> said Ananpi. <CUE THE MUSIC!>

He paused.

<In the next post, that is, chuu~!>

Kai: I, uh. I hope it's not too much of an issue. I had nice memories of that place and I really hope we didn't make a mistake by going to the place we started officially dating at.

-Halys nods.-

Halys: Yeah. Thank you, Brie.

Kai: ...so, uh. The last Fallers are the, uh, Kai we already met that one time at the Lake of Rage, who already knows how to get around and doesn't seem like she's planning on doing that yet, and uh... another Cyrus, who... actually seemed happier to not be going home? I think they'll still be our problem to deal with, but I don't know if sending them home to a story left forgotten is the right thing to do.

Kalter: ...Heh. Yeah. I'd like that.

Kalter: ...I-I'm sorry, uh, can I hug you? It's. I haven't seen you in a long time. A-and we never really got to be real friends before... y'know.

Brie: Oh yeah for sure don't worry.

...I'm not on principle opposed to letting them stay. But what do you mean, our problem?

Ever: ...O-oh. Uh. Yeah, sure, if you don't think you're going to hurt yourself doing it.

Kai: ...So, uh, you know Fake Rogue? They changed their outfit and took the name Renegade, I think, and then hired that Cyrus to be the new Fake Rogue. Kalter — the other other Kai — helped me clear Rogue's name for real by being the new real Rogue for the day, and then Renegade got away but Cyrus got arrested, but now they've broken out apparently???

Halys: They What?

-The lights flicker violently for a few seconds.-

Kai: But they seemed like this whole job was a lot more than they signed up for???? And also mostly turned out to be useless in the grand scheme of things so I don't know if Renegade is going to be recruiting them again???

Medbay

Kalter: It's dry and mostly cleaned up, it's fine.

-With a pained wince, they shift over and hug Ever.-

-It's hesitant at first, uncertain, before growing into a full, tight, "doesn't want to let go" type of embrace.-

Gav is disappointed that his fear for the Oshawott was confirmed. <Dang,> he says. <I wish I could say we could get you back to your parents, but the odds look slim.>

Then, as Laurie said their case regarding where the next portal might be, Mitchell realises something important. "Before we go," he says to the others, as he rummages through his stroller, "we should make sure we've got the right tools and enough provisions for the mountain spelunking. Who knows how deep we have to go to reach any portals in Mt. Coronet, if any of them are there."

Gav takes the opportunity to remind Mitchell of an important fact he needed to know. <Make sure you catch some Pokemon while we're there, okay, Boss?>, he says. <We'll need someone who knows the layout of the place, and I might not be strong enough to keep you safe by myself, what with the pangs I'm getting after battles.>

Mitchell, having understood precisely none of what Gav just said, finishes his inventory check with a satisfied look on his face. "There we go," he says. Turning to Laurie and the others, he adds "I'm ready whenever you are."

Route 203

-Walking towards Oreburgh Gate-

...And then we fought the assorted Cubone and Marowak for a while until we were forced to break it up and did Trial by Bonemerang to make things even.

Garchomp: -Snarls- <Don't remind me of that, just because we regrow our teeth unlike you humans, doesn't mean we like them getting knocked out.>

Chiyo: -Nodding- Uh huh... So this... "Iron Marrow", she sounds like a bit of a hardass, I can see where she got the name.

She is, but she's mellowed out slightly over the years. And it's more because of that literal Lairon femur she carries around.

"Right," Laurie said.

They promptly checked their bag.

"Well, I have a rope, and water, and food, and D'Autry can use Dig, so... I think we'll be fine," they said.

~Oh! By the way, Mitchell,~ said Emcee. ~Gav wants you to know to make sure to catch some more Pokemon while you're down there. He might not be strong enough to keep you safe by himself, after all!~

"Alright, then," said Laurie. "Let's get going."

<Yippeee~!> cried the Oshawott. <I'm going home~!>

And with that said, the group headed off to the mountain.

Mt. Coronet Entrance

"Well, here we are," said Laurie, stepping through the entrance and looking around. "I'm not seeing any portals around here."

~I'm picking up signals, though~!~ Emcee chimed in.

Laurie looked up, and sure enough, Emcee's screw was wiggling.

<You can do that?!> asked the Oshawott in wonder.

~I certainly can!~ said Emcee cheerfully.

"The portal must be coming from a lower level of the mountain, then," said Laurie.

"I see," Mitchell says, his anger cooled a little. "I hope he'll be okay."

Gav sighs in relief. He's happy that Mitchell was willing to drop the matter about what exactly Chibi's deal was.

Mitchell suddenly realizes something. "Well, we've been here a while," he says to Jade. "Is there anything else you need, or shall I go find a place to stay for the night?"

"In that case," Mitchell says, "I'll take care of your healing, if we have to fight. Better safe than sorry."

Mitchell is taken aback by Emcee's translation of Gav's words. "He said that? Well, if any of them show me that they want to join with me, then I can catch them."

Gav grumbles to himself. <That's what wild Pokemon show you when they attack us, Boss.>

With that, Mitchell and Gav follow Laurie and the others to the mountain.

Mitchell shivers slightly as he enters the mountain. "Oh, I should have bundled up more," he says.

Gav, who had been keeping a close eye on the Oshawott all the way from Canalave to here, peers further into the mountain, searching for a way to the lower levels Laurie indicated the portal to Hisui may lie. <Easy does it,> he says. <And stay alert, in case we get company.>

Off in the distance, a faint sound of chimes can be heard, to those with sharp enough hearing. The company Gav is wary of may be closer than expected.

Mount Coronet, Entrance

Laurie looked around for a few moments before glancing over at Mitchell. They promptly reached into their bag and took out a coat, before giving it to Mitchell.

"Here you go," said Laurie.

Meanwhile, Emcee's screw began wiggling again, and they promptly turned to the lower levels of the mountain.

~Hold on,~ they said. ~I think we have company, folks.~

"What...?"

Laurie paused for a few moments, and then they heard the chiming sound coming from near them.

"Oh god it's another Pokemon," they said. "Maybe more than one of them."

<A Pokemon?> asked the Oshawott. <Think I could join in too?>

~Ohhh~! Seems our new Oshawott friend wants to join in, too!~ said Emcee.

"Oh! Sure," said Laurie.

<Yaaaay~!> said the Oshawott.

~Of course, first we have to find out what Pokemon they are,~ said Emcee.
