Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

[up][up][up][up] Wait I thought that happened in Spider-Man’s own book?

[up]Sandman only says that so no one realizes how easily they can beat him.

[up] I think it was actually referencing ASM #4, where Spidey fought the Sandman for the first time.

Which actually makes its inclusion in that issue even funnier, now that I think about it, since it’s just as infamous in-universe as out!

Well now my new goal in life is to collect every issue that references that moment

Life Story spoilers are starting to trickle in, and I can safely say 'I didn't expect any of that.'

And yeah, I just read Life Story#6, I haven't been the biggest fan of this series, and there were a couple of things I wish Chip had elaborated on or made better use of, I think it's fair to say we've exhausted all the interest and excitement of the Superior Spider-Man angle now

I'm glad that the issue didn't go down a depressing route, and that Not only did Peter live a full life with Mary Jane prior to his heroic sacrifice, his son survived Morlun

Man, Miles seems strangely out of character here. Why is he acting so much like Ot- Oh. OHHHHH.

Also, I love how the Symbiote is always written like a jealous ex-girlfriend.

So i guess, Kravenom had some offscreen fights with Spider-Man? Well, it is kinda like Reign, except it's Doom, and hey, he was way more efficient ruling over the world, than Norman ehh? I was kinda surprised that Benjamin was suddenly alive? Considering he was killed by Morlun, perhaps he's the Other and came back? Also called the Plot twist, Miles calling Spidey, Parker is such a red flag for some reason. Let's see how Jack takes the fact that Doc Ock was Spider-Man's final opponent in this story. Spider-Man in space is one hell of a way to end the story, and i'm kinda glad they didn't end it with a depressed beaten Old Man Peter, that would be so easy to do. I wonder what that ending is supposed to symbolize? I assumed it was like Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader, and that it symbolizes a new Spider-Man's world just starting. Or it could be Peter reincarnating in some sort of weird time loop? ehh, random ideas here. Overall, i enjoyed this story, but it really needed more space to develop. It's a good addition to the Spider-Man mythos and finally gives a sense of finality to Peter like Batman and Superman have.

I kinda saw it as that being Miles in a similar situation.

Wonder how a storyline about Miles and Sp Ock going head to head in order to decide who is the true next Spider-Man would go.

[up][up] What do you mean? Miles being older and thus grumpier? I can see that.

ASM #28/829: fun little arc that advances some of the B Plots Spencer has set up, and fleshes out the characters a bit more, but I don’t love the art.

FNSM #11: Seeing MJ be able to save the day (with a little help from Miles) in “Friendly Neighborhood Mary-Jane”, makes me hyped for her solo book in October!

Insomniac-Verse Velocity: I actually really enjoyed this one. It's a completely original story, taking place after the game, and it's honestly a lot stronger for it. It actually does a pretty good job fleshing out this world, and has a lot of great character interaction between Pete and MJ.

I find it kinda funny that he’s gone from making the Ultimates and SHIELD pee their pants in terror to screwing around with symbiotes in 616.

I really love The Maker as a Big Bad. He’s Doom without the nobility. Dr. Doom is still the greatest, but with Maker, it’s like “What if the smartest guy—not the guy who’s barely the runner-up, but the smartest person in the world—started working science miracles in a negative way?” I still love the reveal in Hickman’s Ultimates when Thor has to tell everyone that things are worse than they feared, because they’re up against Evil Reed Richards.

He once made a flying car and named it "Fantasticar". After the (completely justified) mockery he received, I understand that he would eventually give up giving names to things.
