Ahh, console video games (or vidcons as I call them). the ultimate medium of expression, able to convey any emotion ranging from hatred to love, loyalty to fear, all in front of our eyes. Ah, and with lovingly crafted art, music, and the ability to control the action, vidcons are the ultimate combination of the high arts. While I tend to play the stoic, I will be the first to admit that vidcons haven driven me to cry, to scream and shout, to feel actual hate; such is the power of this force beyond our wildest reckoning. And here I am, before you, to temp your tongues with the taint of such a tantalizing topic.

And the Japanese, the true geniuses behind the world of video games. Pah, I throw my scorn upon such incompetents of the West who would mock the true art of the Japanese with 'games' such as Baldur's Gate and Madden. Perhaps it is that the West is not as intelligent as the East, but this is a matter for another day. Japan has given us such masterpieces as the Final Fantasy series, Star Ocean, Wild Arms, and of course, Arc the Lad. Yes, some of the finest vidcons in the world were created by Japanese. I come to you today to ask you in all earnesty, what is your favorite vidcon? I will reveal mine after the grand debate has illustriously begun, but not before the first poster falls victim to my plot of discussion.

In other words, this is a thread on an imaginary forum our avatars frequent. The topic can fluctuate, and its mostly just general discussion.

Well, cybertechnology is kind of primitive in our world, so I'm not sure if we'd have much to test it against.

Also, on the topic of books (as Naomi mentioned novels), I've read a bit more of Lehmann's book on the Siege of Mechanicsburg (Prev. Post | First Post). I'm on the chapter called "The Doom Bell Rings."

In case you don't know, the Doom Bell is a bell in Mechanicsburg that has . . . interesting effects on those who listen to it's ring. Here's Lehmann's account of his experience with the bell:

I was overwhelmed with the most innapropriate thing to experience during wartime: the fear of death. I was suddenly, forcefully reminded that my time on this earth would end one day. As for what awaited me, there was the possibility that there was simply nothing at all. There was the equally terrifying possibility that I'd stand condemned to torment before the powers that be. Perhaps I would be reborn as someone or something else. But even if I was destined for eternal paradise, I had worked with Sparks long enough to know that my corpse might be put in a lab, and moments later my poor soul would kick and scream as it is dragged from the Pearly Gates.

Hmm, yes, the Doom Bell will do that to those not raised in Mechanicsburg.

But here's what I find so interesting: I was in the town at the time. I heard the Doom Bell Ring, first hand. Even though I had never heard the bell before in my whole life, I didn't react anything like Lehmann did.
If anything, the Doom Bell's sound made be feel hopeful and strong. It had the opposite effect on me that it should have.

Wow, you're right, that is fascinating!
I'm not even being sarcastic, I'm genuinely surprised!

(OOC: Gil not being affected is canonical, as is other people finding it weird.)

[1] Alright! The Nomad dupe is currently orbiting Mars, exactly 0 degrees 12' to the north of it using equatorial coordinates. Should I bring it closer? I'm a little concerned about secret services finding out.

[2] You guys have massive death rays, right? Either way, no problem.

[up] I'm not sure if I understand that, what's the other meaning of penetration?

It's a sex joke.

On my end of things, someone has come back from expedition with Varka recently. He brought back a letter and was then asked to stay in the city. His name is Mika Schmidt, he’s Huffman’s little brother, and he works under Eula in the Reconnaissance Company. That’s about all I know about him. He’s a socially anxious one. He seems to get nervous if you so much as look at him for too long, much less try to ask him questions. But he apparently does good at whatever his job is, so the least I can do is respect his boundaries.

Alright, uh... How much does your kind know about extraterrestrials, Rui? I could offer you an explorer bot and a workbench on Mars.

Edit: I think I have a solution. Just contacted the PSIA, there should be a PSA about the massive spaceship on TV soon.
Also, I won't be able to land the Nomad, because it was designed to stay in orbit and it would occupy a massive area, so this is the closest I can come. Sorry

As in, how would the Japanese government in Project Sekai react if a spaceship so big it can be seen in broad daylight with a naked eye suddenly appeared above their country?

Oof, that must be a lot of work. Me, I had a lot of work to do today too, such as doing some research for this team regarding astrophysics simulations. There's a lot of differential geometry involved, and don't get me started on the quaternion calculations involved.

These two comments side-by-side got me curious. Over in Teyvat, can you guys see stars, planets, and other heavenly bodies in the night sky? Are they any differen than what we'd be used to? Are these “organic” quarters safe for Gems like me and Cinn? Plus, can I ask something for their backpack? I think it needs some fixing…

I think Aether mentioned a while ago that he's heard rumours about the sky not being real. I may have to retcon in another spot for EV's portals besides Tevyat orbit if that rumor turns out to be canon So maybe, but it's probably not widely popular? Strangely enough, the stars don't seem to play that big of a role in Tevyat alchemy than in my homeworld.

[up] Edit: sure, Morgan, you can have a shot at its physical defenses! You may need some technical details, though, because otherwise you can expect to quickly get ejected into space again.

As for Phos, I'm pretty sure deep space can be safe for you as long as you get enough heat radiation to metabolize. The Nomad is still over three compatibility degrees below you, so I wouldn't recommend a personal visit.
Also, I can take care of Cinn's backpack, just need to finish up some other work first

What I can imagine is circuitry getting contaminated with mercury and/or sealing material getting deteriorated. Cinn's backpack works using electrostatic induction, and... on second thought, yeah, there are filters. Fine PTFE meshes, which can simply be washed clean

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_family_guy_11_26_22.png

So now the research team I'm on is trying to conduct experiments on detecting what shape the universe is. It's guaranteed to be a 3-manifold, which in topology locally looks like 3-dimensional Euclidean space, but may have different properties from it if it isn't 3-dimensional Euclidean space to begin with. Knowing the possible shape of the universe would help further finalize our knowledge of how our universe's expansion is exactly influenced by dark energy and mitigated by dark matter.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marnie_pokemon_family_guy_10_7_22.png

Pretty complicated math involved. How do you manage to comprehend all of this?

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_family_guy_11_26_22.png

Not sure. I guess I do like challenging myself in terms of how much more I can learn without forgetting it.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pokemon_penny_jungle_2_19_23_face_paint_1.png

Maybe you should also focus on the smaller parts of the universe, such as researching if there are any new particles to be discovered.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_family_guy_11_26_22.png

Like gravitons? They're supposed to be the particle that mediates the force of gravity, like how photons mediate light and stuff.

[up]By the way, tonight out for me is looking pretty nice in terms of the weather as well, so maybe me and my friends will head out for dinner at a restaurant.

Um, I mainly fly a modified F-14D that has seen better days, so I certainly cannot travel to deep space in that. Otherwise, can it withstand a ballistic nuclear missile hitting it?

Theoretically, it's got systems in place that should prevent such a payload from detonating within a critical distance, practically you're welcome to try and jam them.
Also, I've swapped out the defenses with nonlethal variants, and if the Nomad does catch you and eject you, there will be cargo ships that can bring you back to safety, so don't worry. Just keep that in mind whenever you get hit by a wave of styrofoam pellets.
Is it safe to bring the Nomad replica into your Earth's orbit?

If you’re willing to try to explain to the various governments and authorities about this replica nearing our Earth, then you could try.

Plus, my F-14D is not a space shuttle, so I am not sure how would you expect me to come to the Nomad replica?

Tried that, it should be in Earth orbit right about now. There's also a whole bunch of spy satellites watching it, and I've been told by some governments that they will open missile fire on the thing should it actually have lethal weapons.

That's strange, there's no pumping mechanism per se and the only electric motors are in the release hatches... I'll come over, if you don't mind

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bridget_icon_575490809.png Is it possible that this "Teyvat" is still stuck in the medieval stage where space is nothing but a superstitious backdrop to them, hence why they think the sky isn't "real"?

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/naomi_icon_62642189.png That would be pretty wild, especially nowadays. Even the Floralines, who are still tribalistic by nature, are capable of understanding space as we know it since they perform astronomy regularly, so why humans in "Teyvat" can't is very confusing.

There’s actually a relatively high chance that the sky is indeed fake, because one of the people who’s believed it is the god of wisdom (despite the Traveler being unconscious for that exchange, so he wouldn’t know).
