It looks better. (I assume that's the reasoning, and I agree with it..)
I've seen it with white space, and I have to say that it makes it look worse. Much worse.

Here is a different take on Scaled Up, from back when Tim Burton made good movies (oh yeah I went there!):
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.
Er...you nitpicked at Jafar not looking snakey enough, but Betelgeuse looks similar enough betwenen the two frames?
Didn't say anything about not looking snakey enough.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. Not looking similar enough, I meant. As in "Jafar doesn't not look enough like that snake".

Here's another version of the Jafar transformation, that hopefully makes it clearer he's the one transforming:
That is awesome.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Indeed.
That works, but remove the white spacing. They add unnecessary space and you can already tell that they're serate frames.
If you need to add some separation, make it black bars; white space just looks sloppy.
... for Scaled Up, I take it? I'd say it's definitely fitting to that trope.
I think whether it looks better with or without white space between frames is totally subjective. It is not really accurate to say that it "is" sloppy- or lazy-looking or whatever. That's just an opinion. I agree that "without" looks cleaner, but, I didn't make that image. It is fine.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. After inspecting the image further, there's a lot of white dead space, both around the image in between the frames.
Just a quick second to clean it up, then...
Mmm. I prefer a small gutter between the frames. Helps to break it up visually and emphasize a bit of time passage.
I have a message from another time...Win

I prefer the version without lines between the panels. Although if we want lines, I'd rather make them black.
Reaction Image RepositoryI thought that black lines might be necessary, but the lighting in the frames make natural divisions on where one frame starts and another frame ends; it's very easy to tell them apart without needing to edit borders in.
I obviously prefer it with the lines, but (shrug) whatever the majority thinks is better.
Bumping this to encourage more input: gutters or no gutters on the Jafar pic?
No gutters.
No gutters.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickOK. Posted it sans gutters.
Looks good, I'm going to ask for a lock.
Why?
