I admit I have a soft spot for Franz and that film. They arguably did brutal Bond villain and film way better than Quantam. Whose villains and film was lame.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Saw it last night and enjoyed it immensely. Never thought a GOOD Torch the Franchise and Run ending was possible, wow.
I’m sure the series isn’t DONE done, but it’s almost certainly going to take a quite long rest now. Much like Smash Bros.
They're going to cast the new Bond next year, so I don't think they're skipping a beat
As M says at the end of the movie, "back to work"
Soft continuity reboot, back to the pre-Craig adventurous self-contained romps, I would wager.
I think it'd be pretty cool to see them do pieces set in different time periods, rather than stay current, but I doubt that happens.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.Yeah, no, I don't see them skipping a beat either. This isn't an Arthur Conan Doyle situation.
Optimism is a duty.Hm, didn't know that. If they're recasting Bond himself, that almost certainly means another reboot. I thought they might instead change the series to the 007 series, with the main character being whoever has that number, so Nomi would take over, and when Lashana Lynch leaves a new actor to play a new character would be brought in, etc. Like the Codename Theory except not stupid.
Making it a 007 series instead may not be a bad idea, but it still would mean tossing the entire brand for a gimmick.
Which, I mean, you can try, but you better hit gold right away.
Optimism is a duty.Saw it last night. I like it. I appreciate how it does manage to have a little bit of meta commentary without being too on the nose with it.
Based purely on the film itself I did guess that Bond would have a child but not that he would die though once they killed both Leiter and Blofeld, Anyone Can Die was clearly in full force.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Finally got to catch it. Can't say I was exactly looking forward to it after what Spectre turned out to be, so I was pleasantly taken by how good it turned out to be. There were a few eyebrow-raising elements, like Paloma's short screentime, the under-explored Safin vs SPECTRE plot thread and his unexplained ultimate plan. But I didn't actually mind any of those things in the end; if anything, they gave the Craigverse a nifty dose of mystique and made it feel big rather than revolving around Bond alone. The supporting cast is amazing, and the action is well done (though I gotta say I prefer the M:I school nowadays). All in all, a fitting end to the Craig era.
Oh, and I didn't get the impression that Madelaine was actually denying that Mathilde was James' son. She was definitely saying "She's not yours" in the "you put her in me, but she doesn't belong to you" sense.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)Film Brain has a review of No Time To Die:
I had a bizarre dream about an extended ending to this movie. In it Maddie is in the car as she is in the actual ending, but her story is interrupted when her phone buzzes and it’s Blofeld! Blofeld tells her that he was such a valuable source of information for the government that the prison doctors pulled out all the stops to save him, allowing him to send people after her again…
… and at that point the actual film narrative ended and we cut to a group of fans in a cafe attached to the theater, debating whether Mattie and Mathilde were killed by Blofeld’s men or if they escaped. This in turn was interrupted by the fans being telekinetically pulled toward the counter because the counter attendant is… Darth Sidious! Somehow Palpatine returned! In a totally different franchise!
Then I woke up.
Palpatine breaking into this movie franchise just because he wants more attention.
Optimism is a duty.My headcanon is Safin's "Millions" he's planning to kill are the 1% and/or corrupt government officials but they worried the audience would find that too sympathetic.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Well, I'm glad they didn't turn it into yet another anticapitalist fantasy. That's just a bit too much.
Optimism is a duty.Plus extremely hypocritical given that Safin is most certainly a criminal and must be 1% level wealthy himself if he's able to go up against Spectre and the secret services of at least two countries.
That wouldn't be too sympathetic - quite the opposite.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Someone on Twitter pointed this out:
2017-Hugh Jackman's last performance as Wolverine, sacrifice, has a daughter
2019- RDJ's last performance as Iron Man, sacrifice, has a daughter
2021-Daniel Craig's last performance as James Bond, sacrifice, has a daughter
2023-??

I’ve seen comments on the fact that there’s a lot of works focusing on father-child relationships these days. “Daddification,” is a term I’ve seen used.
Is that a… Trope?
It's a fairly natural development if you have an actor playing the same character for years and years. The character ages along with the actor, so they reach the point in their lives where most people end up having kids.
Anyone else so happy that both Maddie and Nomi avoided a trip to the fridge? I feel like even a few years ago that wouldn’t have happened.
You know, until Screen Junkies made this honest trailer, I never thought much on how much Connery's films show off Bond checking into hotel rooms.
Also had to laugh at the bit where he points out how this was a time where being sober and not a chainsmoker made you stand out.
And lampshading SPECTRE's lack of imagination.
The cold never bothered me anywayNot to mention that being sober and an incel made you somewhat of a superhuman being, apparently.
Optimism is a duty.I was worried right to the end that that would actually happen. So so glad it didn't. Loved the film, a fitting coda to the era, and for me one of the best films of the franchise. Not perfect but very good.

It worked for Licence to Kill.
