Fate/Viridian Nightmare

On the city of Hilwood, three ambitious mages with the help of a member of the Holy Church tried to recreate the miracle born of Einzberg, Makiri and Tohsaka, known as the Holy Grail War. Each of the three mages brought something to the table and together they were certain that their efforts would bear fruit.

And so they did. On a clear, cool night of autumm the rules of the game were set in stone and the system was implemented. On that night the three magus shook hands and then parted ways, each to their own lair to prepare for the Summoning. What they didn't know, and wouldn't learn of until the moment they called forth their Servant, is that their ritual brought them to the attention of something far older than humanity.

And so the magus in their ambition prepare their summons, unaware of the fact that when the call is made something besides the Servants will also awaken.

Is the Master's will together with the might of the Servant enough to overcome that which hunts under the crimson glow of the night? Or will their ambition be crushed and devoured by an old and lost power of the planet?

Holy Grail War RPG by daltar Version 3.0 Running on Holy Grail War RPG in TV Tropes Forum Version 5.0

For information about the setting please follow these links: Holy Grail War, Servants, Masters, Classes.

Now that the obligatory pretentious backstory and thematic title is done with, now lets talk about the city.

Hilwood is a big city with almost a million citizens. It is nestled in a valley amongs a chain of mountains that limit it to the north, east and west. To the south, however the terrain is pretty even, opening into a bunch of grasslands and a fairly big lake to the south west. Here in the south is the Industrial Distric of the city and Hilwood's very own little international airport. The city is developing a subway system, though to the moment only one line is available with several others left unfinished for the moment due to fairly long workers strike. Even though this is an Industrial city, the big chain of mountains has ensured that a lot of nature is left untouched. The north limit of the city for instance has a lot of untouched valleys and forests and scattered all around the city one can find many little parks. Hilwood has it's very own University and some smallers centers of higher learning.

For perceptive mages, the relative wilderness of the north holds an enviroment rich in prana. Such can be said too of the Lake and it's rumored that hidden somewhere on the city there is a good collection of magical tomes.

As of now these are the characters and who plays them:

The Master must be a Mage of some talent able to perform the Summoning ritual but besides that you may developt the character in any way you desire.

The Servant must be a hero, a person of legend or renown. The Servant can't be a god, the higher you can aspire to are semi deities, like Heracles.

Here are the sheets, first is the one for Servants and then the one for Masters.

Servants:

  • Class:
  • Master:
  • True Name:
  • Gender:
  • Height/ Weight:
  • Alignment:
  • Stats: (From E to A+, E being the worst, A+ being the highest)
    • Strength:
    • Endurance:
    • Agility:
    • Magical Energy:
    • Luck:
    • Noble Phantasm (Rank):
  • Class Abilities: (From E to A+, a single Servant will obviously not have all of these. Also how strong these abilities will be depends on the individual Servant)
  • Skills: Particular powers that depend on the Heroic Spirit's character.
  • Noble Phantasms: Weapons and powers unique to the Heroic Spirit alone.

Masters:

  • Name:
  • Age:
  • Gender:
  • Master Of: (put none for unaffiliated magus)
  • Physical Description:
  • Backstory:
  • Abilities:
  • Special Abilities (Not spells, but inherent skills, magical or otherwise):
  • Spells:

You don't have to fill it all to reserve a spot, if you have any difficulties with it you may ask for assistance or check some examples here.

Here are some simple rules for this game:

  • Number one and most important No Godmodding, even if you play as an all mighty servant about to drive your heaven-splitting sword into the heart of a cripple child Master in a wheelchair, you don't kill him. You state your intent and then wait for confirmation of the kill. This rule is slightly more lax with NPC but still use your common sense. If you really feel your character is being pushed around then please report it and I will mediate as best as possible.

  • This is an elimination game, which means that your character will most likely die. We'll try to keep the killing to latter in the game but if it happens it's just the course of the game, you may start again with another character if you want to keep playing.

  • The Holy Grail War and Magic is supossed to be kept a secret in the game world, which basically means that even thought you can kill civilians in plain daylight, destroy whole buildings while giggling and declare yourself Lord Mage and Master of all the patetic Muggles, all these acts will carry dire consequences. If you break the Masquerade you will make yourself enemy of all and a price will be put on your head. You have been warned. This doesn't mean that you can't be evil, you can commit as many attrocities as you can think of, the trick is to be discreet and make sure that nobody notices.

  • You control your PC and I'll even allow you to control the actions of some little NPC's like your PC parents, service or whatever, but please don't abuse this.

  • Last but not least, if you want to quit the game, please just say so instead of simply dissapearing into the night. We'll reach some agreement on what to do with your character, whever it is by the character's elimination from the War or let another person take on the role. If you DO dissapear without a word then please don't be surprised to find that your character was horribly killed and devoured.

And finally, if you want to keep your character's stats and identity a secret so you can surprise the other players you can send me the his or her data as a PM. That way you can play your mistery character and it won't be an Asspull when you unleash your special abilities.

The Signups are now officially open, I hope we can have a nice RPG, good luck everyone, may the best prevail.

    • Golden Rule: B

    • Military Tactics: A
      • Ability to command armies is at its highest point. Gives tremendous boost during use of one's own Anti-Army Noble Phantasm or when dealing against an enemy Anti-Army Noble Phantasm.
  • Noble Phantasms: Weapons and powers unique to the Heroic Spirit alone.
HIDDEN
  • Notes: Has additional pieces of equipment which are not important enough to be noble phantasms. His horse which is as agile as Lancer, his sword, knife and bow (and arrows), none of which are particularly special.

Changed a bit from previous grail wars. Here, he's both Archer and Rider so his stats are greatly boosted. If someone has a problem with me doing this, speak now and I'll change him so he's just one class and appropriately decrease his stats, skills and noble phantasms. Also, I'll get my master in soon.

Note: After some research, I found that I could probably fit him as Lancer or Saber too. Not doing so though.

  • Name: Yukimura Emiya
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: male
  • Master Of: Archer
  • Physical Description: He is a rather tall, muscular young man who has dark red hair, blue eyes, and is rather pale. He usually wears a sleeveless shirt or an open button up shirt, a jacket, jeans, and sneakers. He is almost always smiling, and has typical protagonist bright eyes.
  • Backstory: Yukimura "Yuki" is one of the newest mages, having became a Mage at the urging of his adoptive father, Crine Dela Ranefort. His family is in charge of an odd little shrine that has a hole in the roof where, at a certain time at night, one can see mercury's glow. Yuki has been something like a male order Shrine Maiden on his free time, always praying at that exact time to mercury, and a God that Crine has said only he has seen through an odd sort of vision magic. Yuki is generally blind to the fact his father may well be using him to accomplish a goal, and Yuki has also been blind to the fact that Crine has been involved in some shadowy dealings.

He just wants to remain in his ideal little world where he can be the nice, heroic guy who helps out his friends and not have to deal with stresses. This becomes steadily impossible as odd occurrences begin to occur around him, including one time when mercury glowed red, and from then on, Yuki's magical abilities have steadily climbed higher and higher. The downside to this deadly upgrade is that all his spells are more powerful and dangerous. Thus, he is an expert at large scale spells, but cannot concentrate on smaller scale attacks. If he wants to cast a fire spell, he cannot set a small flame, but he can call forth a stream of lava.

  • Abilities: His magical abilities are extremely powerful, to the cost, though, of his sanity if he abuses his magical gift. This may well cause Lovecraftian consequences in the future if he uses his magic too much.
  • Special Abilities (Not spells, but inherent skills, magical or otherwise): He can regenerate from some wounds, though it is apparently very, very painful. He says he feels twice the pain the injury inflicted whenever he regenerates.
  • Spells:
  • He can unleash huge fireballs, streams of lava, and "a meteor if I have to".
  • He can set up strong barriers.
  • He is also rather skilled with Shock and Awe and freezing spells.

  • Notes: All usage and abilities of magic are derived from the servant's angelic background, not traditional magic, and thus contains corresponding caveats and advantages. Stats may be altered by Noble Phantasms.

The only problem I have with the Archer/Rider idea is that it potentially locks out another potential servant.

Well, this RP has suffered more than once for having too many master/servants. Also, there's always avenger too if Dalt wants to get him in as well. If I change Archer/Rider, I have to change the whole fighting style. I respectfully decline unless someone else doesn't like it too because Dalt already approved Khan.

@neobowman:

You're going to allow less people to RP Heroic Spirits if Khan already takes up two. Plus it's established in Fate/Stay Night canon that there have to be at least 7 heroic spirits in the Holy Grail War.

Though I just said there needs to be 7 Heroic Spirits, the classes don't really matter, I guess I can change my character to an Avenger, as they are a bit of an Anti-Hero despite being Chaotic Good (I'm not saying who my character really is, I want to surprise people with his idenity).

True, plus it would give a good motive for Avenger to kill Archer/Rider, stealing his class and making him take a weaker one.

Alright in order.

Nick: The Lovecraftian Consequences worry me a lot. His abilities are also far too strong for a Master. The Servant is the one supposed to be doing the fighting, so we cannot have the Master flinging meteors and regenerating from injuries.

Tsukubus: Please, PM me the history of your Servant.

  • Name: Velnias Kardas the 2nd. (Since everyone else is doing the Continuity Nods, I decided to do one to a previous Fate RP)
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Master Of: Archer/Rider
  • Physical Description: Long uncombed blonde hair, red eyes, 163cm tall, 100 pounds.
  • Backstory: Her adoptive mother (who had named Velnias after herself) disappeared 10 years ago. In her search for finding out what had happened to her, Velnias dropped out of school to pursue her studies, and came upon the Holy Grail War as the source. Thus, her reason for joining the war.
  • Abilities: Elemental affinity of Ice, a sub-element of Water. 20 natural magic circuits and her Od level is 250 prana.
  • Special Abilities (Not spells, but inherent skills, magical or otherwise):
  • Spells: Velnias's real talent lies in Ten-count spells, though she doesn't know yet. She currently has no usable skills.

Copied bits and pieces from the previous incarnation of Velnias Kardas. Different personality though.

Wait, if that's true, then if FSN came out in 2004, assuming that's roughly the time frame the 5th War is in, then Crimson Dream would've have to have been in like 2006-7. 16-20 years later would make this in the 2025-ish time frame.

Doesn't Ghost In The Shell take place around 2030. This is starting to hurt my brain. Mostly because a few of my characters had minor connections to those in canon. Anyway Chacracter Dump time:

  • Class: Berserker

  • Master:

  • True Name: Yumizuka Satsuki

  • Gender: Female

  • Height/ Weight: 161 cm/ 45 kg

  • Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (marginally)

  • Stats:

    • Strength: B (A)

    • Endurance: C (C+)

    • Agility: C (B+)

    • Magical Energy: B (A)

    • Luck: E (E-)

    • Noble Phantasm (Rank): A (-)

  • Class Abilities:

    • Mad Enhancement: B: Sanity lost, but all parameters increased.

  • Skills:

    • Battle Continuation: B: Due to her body's inhuman nature, non-lethal injuries can be shrugged off relatively easily.

    • Regeneration: B+: Due to her vampiric nature, Berserker can use mana to quickly regenerate most physical injuries.

    • Superhuman Strength: C+: Increases strength temporarily. An offensive ability only devils and beasts posses. When activated, strength increases by a half rank.

    • Bloodlust: Can feed on human blood to increase strength, but becomes much harder to control as a result. Can be stacked with Mad Enhancement

  • Noble Phantasm:

    • Reality Marble - Depletion Garden: Rank A: A spell that creates a territory which drains mana from anything within the area of effect. Effectively paralyzes magi, who would need mana to attack, and would also greatly hamper Servants, who require mana to exist. Unfortunately, Berserker is unaware of this ability. Also, cannot be used when berserk.

  • Notes: Since Satsuki was a vampire during life, the only way I see this working is if the person that summons her has some connection to vampires or used an artifact related to vampires in general. No matter what, there should probably be something odd about the summoning since Satsuki isn't really a Heroic Spirit at all.

  • Name: Athanasios Kotomine
  • Gender: Male
  • Master of: None
  • Affiliation: Holy Church
  • Physical Description: He is very well built, likely due to the training required for his job. Very little excess fat. Not that one could tell, really, seeing as he is usually wearing priest robes. Black hair with dark eyes. Of Greek descent.
  • Backstory: A orphan found by Kotomine Kirei while on a job as an executioner in Greece. Kirei found him standing in front of a minor demon, which was cowering in fear. Investigation showed that the spirit had tried to possess him, and was driven insane as a result. You see, this young child's "origin," his deepest innermost self, was death. Official records state that his mother died during childbirth. The truth was that his mother died during labor, before he had been born. This gave him a fundamental connection to death, which the demon mentioned beforehand couldn't deal with when it tried to enter his mind. Kirei thought this was amusing, and renamed the child Athanasios, which means 'Eternal Life.' He sent the child to the church to be trained as an executor, figuring such an ability would be useful in that line of work.
  • Personality: Extremely stoic, a man of very few words.
  • Abilities:
    • Special Abilites:
      • Looking into his eyes and mind is like looking into the emptiness of death itself. People of heightened spiritual awareness would probably find it unnerving to even be around him. His origin of "death" also gives a bit of a sixth sense in combat, instinctively feeling how to kill something, or avoid being killed himself. Also, through seemingly random occurrences, things just seem to die when he is nearby. For instance, if someone tried to jump him from behind, when Athanasios threw them off, the attacker would just happen to land on top of a venomous snake.
      • Also has training fighting with Black Keys (magic throwing swords) and heightened physical abilities as a Church Executor.
      • Can also be described as a bit of an oddball within the Church in the same way that Emiya Kiritsugu was an oddball mage. Athanasios is known to make use of modern (military) technology if necessary/convenient.
    • Special Equipment:
      • In addition to the standard black keys, Athanasios has a pair of kodachi sized Japanese style swords. The blade on these swords extends all the way through the hilt and out of the pommel a short distance. In combat, the swords sit on a rack that attaches to Athanasios's forearm, with the hilt mounted just below his wrist. This allows for say, drawing a single sword and using the second to parry attacks like a buckler on his left arm. The swords themselves were forged using water that was mixed with his own blood. This gives them the same sort of property of death that Athanasios has. Being cut by one of the swords would dissipate a bit of the target's life force (though not much, killing some through this effect would probably take upwards of 50 slashes. It would still slow someone down though). In summary, swords have a stamina drain, and carrying them around is not good for one's mental health. Also, the swords are not part of the usual equipment, they'd only get used if things get serious.
    • Spells
      • A Cremation Ritual is tattooed onto both his right and left palms. It is designed to burn the body and banish the spirit of a demon. This can be set up for a wide area, using Black Keys as focal points, or just by simply grabbing onto the demon and letting loose. Can also be used to set the Black Keys/Swords on fire.

  • Notes: I'm thinking his personality might clash with being the (primary) Overseer, so maybe he could team oversee with someone?

  • Name: Corvin "Cat-boy" Lyrasp
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Late Teens/Early Twenties
  • Master Of: Undecided, possibly none
  • Physical Description: Average height and a light build, with dark hair. His normal expression is somewhat serious. His smile however, is decidedly mischievous, if not evil.
  • Backstory:
    • Born to a modern mage family, a slight birth defect which affects the central nervous system caused his magic circuits to fragment into their base components. In addition, a near death experience while he was still an infant created a connection to Akasha, in the form of a special brand of pure eyes. Since this happened at so young an age, his body was able to adapt to the modified optical circuitry, resulting in blue-yellow colorblindness. Due to the fragmented nature of his magic circuits, he is incompatible with his family's magecraft, and thus was sent to a magic school to try and find out what he could accomplish.
    • At the school, he soon discovered that, with effort, the could arrange the base components of his magic circuits in almost any fashion that he desired. While most pupils were stuck with one or more elements, Corvin could in fact change his own element by re-arranging his magic circuits. The only limit was on total mana channeling capacity, for him around 500 prana units (for reference Rin is stated to have a max output of 1000). Also at this point, his previously unused eyes began to activate due to the amount of prana that was flowing through his body on a regular basis. At their most basic, his eyes could gauge the infinite possibilities of the future, as well as the possibility of each future from coming to pass. At some point Zelretch noticed this similarity to the Second magic, and decided to take Corvin on as a pupil, alongside Rin.
    • Sent to the Grail War as a favor to Rin, who is busy at the moment.
  • Personality: The kind of person who only teases the people he likes, but is rather polite to everyone else. Finds it tremendously amusing to annoy people using their own idiosyncrasies. Has also learned to simply not question wierd things that happen to/around him anymore. Corvin is also a bit prone to biting off more than he can chew, and being overprotective to an almost dangerous level. He also sees the Revival of the Grail War as something he as to personally fix.
  • Abilities:
    • Special Abilities:
      • Mystic Eyes of the Spiral: His aforementioned eyes. Originally simply pure eyes that could only perceive possible futures, they eventually became true Mystic Eyes in that he can self-suggest himself into possible courses of action. So long as it is possible for him to dodge or parry an attack, he can force himself to do it. His eyes are technically not always active, the trigger being fight or flight mode's adrenaline rush. He's gotten pretty good at triggering this when necessary though.
    • Spells:
      • High-Speed Theoretical Ability Analysis and Rapid Experimental Emulation (Ability Projection): Not really a spell, but Corvin's primary magical ability. After seeing a magic technique used a few times, and using knowledge (or guesswork) on the structure of the user's magic circuits, Corvin begins experimenting on how the spell was cast/used. However, due to his mystic eyes, he can peer briefly into the future and see the results of the experiment before it even happens. Repeating this process in rapid succession usually means that after a few minutes he can arrange his circuits in a fashion to emulate the ability at a passable level. The mana cost of emulated abilities is always noticeably higher than the cost of the original, however, and the power is usually lower as well. Activated with the phrase "Begin Emulation."
        • Spells Copied (At the moment):
          • Rin's Gandr shots
          • A highly inefficient form of Shirou's projection, based solely on what he's learned (second hand) from Rin.
          • His family's technique for producing (pseudo-)movable bounded fields (different than Souren.)
  • Equipment:
    • A small, white dagger, in the shape of a gladius. Created in a failed attempt to replicate the Jewel Sword, rather than being capable of drawing prana from alternate dimensions, it draws prana from the future. This means that the area within it's use will be drained of prana for a good period of time after the dagger is used.

  • Notes: Not intended to be a starting character, unless we're short on Masters. I was thinking more along the lines of a mentor figure who knows about what happened in the past, and may show up if things get hairy (or stuck due to plot reasons). Also, upon a second reading he seems a bit game-breakery.

Depending on a year, some of the relationships may have to change. Also, I may have gone overboard with this one.

Are we allowed/encouraged to make more than one character?

You're allowed to have more than one character. Some don't even have to be Masters or Servants.

...

Just in case, I'll be reserving just one master.

Oh, alright, great. Then I'll reserve one master whose servant ISN'T Assassin, for now.
