@Faramir: I think from a narrative standpoint the first mission is supposed to be a surprise to the wizards and make them realise they can't just underestimate the muggles, thus kicking the war into gear.
That's what I thought the idea was anyway, it's Hungry Joes' plot.
As for that wizard guarding the entrance... How close is he standing? I don't need to use a gun to kill or incapacitate someone.

You are reading this.I know, it's just that you guys sound so Trigger-Happy.
Wait, I thought the war had been going on for over a month by now...

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you can't sell him fish anymore. http://thoughtfulspurts.wordpress.com/Not to mention the wizard gaurding the gate is looking for someone who has a "?" look on his face because he has no idea where he suddenly is. I'm sure a bunch of guys charging throught the gate armed and ready will be enough to overwhelm him.
War may have been going on for a month but its possible this area hasn't seen much fighting.

So, wizards know (because the war's been full on for over a month) that there are angry muggles going about, and they don't use precautions because they're pretentious little bagpipes, But then muggles break into platform 9 3/4.
Do they try to board the train?
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you can't sell him fish anymore. http://thoughtfulspurts.wordpress.com/I don't think thats part of their mission and boarding a train where their is a whole lot for wizards sounds like a bad move to me. They know where it is and they probably know where it leads to and how to get there. Mission Accomplished.

I don't think a squib, and a bunch of trigger happy muggles know where hogwarts is. Or what route the train takes, for that matter.

Personally, I'm going to be trying my best to keep this conflict within Grey-and-Grey Morality. (Something which Nick's character is going to make difficult. >_<) After all very few people in real life would work for those that they think are "bad guys".
The guard might not be ready because as far as I see in Joe's backstory posts, there hasn't been any direct attacks on wizard-based locations yet. So again, as far as the wizards think, the muggles don't actually know where the wizards are.
And yeah, boarding the train would be a bad idea unless we can stop it.
You are reading this.In theory, that's where Satellite Recon comes in.
Anyway, since it's late, I'm dropping off now.
"Yup. That tasted purple."^^^ I was under the impression the reason the muggles were their in the first place was because they were looking for the train to Hogwarts. Or at least some important magical location.

Trigger happy? You wish; we're trained professionals, our trigger discipline is exceptional.
Sure it would be a bad idea, but if your job is getting intelligence, how else are you gonna know where the kids (who I'm assuming some muggles think are kidnapped or something) are? Can Satellite detect wizards? I think not.
How are you planning to know where Hogwarts is? I mean, for the look of it, your squib isn't all that knowledgeable. If he was, there would be no need to know where platform 9 3/4 is, or how to get to hogwarts, right?

Hence the recon mission.
Yeah, but knowing where the train is doesn't tell you where the school is. All I'm saying is that, if they just wanted to see the train, they could send a robot with a camera. Or a remote control robot with a camera.

There'll be more setup, but here's how it goes for the Wizards:
You get startling News A, only to have a hardboiled Auoror with a Deatheater who's been "persuaded" to help aparate in. They've been tipped off that something's going down at the station. You're all recruited.
A lot of civies are being moved around within the station as cops and grunts bungle their orders, some wizards will be caught outside 9 3/4.
For the Muggles:
[////////CLASSIFIED/////////]
Find the secret track leading to a mystical fortress and repository of knowledge.
[////////CLASSIFIED/////////]
Charlie Tunoku is a lover and a fighter.I take offense at that insinuation sir.
It's really not that hard to find Hogwarts. We have sats that can detect body heat; if they were already tracking one individual when said individual happened to board a train....
^^^ Following the tracks does. A robot would look rather conspicuous.

So then they'll just get a train inside... somehow... and follow those tracks?
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you can't sell him fish anymore. http://thoughtfulspurts.wordpress.com/No, they don't need to do that. All they need is to find out where the platform is, how to get in, and report to their superiors. Presumebly they have a plan for what happens next.
I don't know... I always thought wizards would smarten up a bit in the past 20 years. And a remote control toy car with a camera could probably go unnoticed for a while.
I also thought that the apparition shield would also make Hogwarts harder to detect from satellite.

Unusual situations tend to make even the best preperations be found lacking.
Air force? Can't wizards point their wants at it and mess it up? Or fly close to it with their brooms and kill the pilot, or jump on it with a hipogrif? I still think wizards should've smartened up in the past 20 years.

"Get on the train right now or so help me I'll give you all detention for a month!"
