How about Dark Meta Knight? Now, hear me out.

His recent appearances have made mirror powers (self-duplication, summoning mirror panes that launch swords, hiding in one mirror and emerging from another) into a major part of his fighting style. If they put in this guy, he wouldn't need to even be an Echo fighter.

I'd like the idea of Dark Meta Knight, just to break the mold on Dark characters.

Wasn't intending to just pick one from each list, but that's what ended up happening.

Expecting 100 characters is insane. I doubt the roster will exceed 80 even with DLC.

Give me Shantae and Monster Hunter. Don't need anyone else. Seriously, Shantae has been one of those under-the-radar classic gems for Nintendo since the Game Boy Color and her hair attacks and various items and transformation dances are practically begging for a moveset. For Monster Hunter, ever since Monster Hunter Tri the franchise has practically become a Nintendo exclusive. Plus with Rathalos in there it's almost guaranteed that there's gonna be a Monster Hunter character later.

For the record, Smash would need to more than double their count to reach the champs, Tobal and Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi. Not that those games had their characters balanced of even differentiated at all, mind.

The only way I ever see Ultimate reaching 100 characters is if they do the only correct option the whole "keep Ultimate largely the same but add to it every few years for new systems" thing.

I really hope all future Smash games are just ports or updated versions of Ultimate. Make it truly the Ultimate Smash, let's see how far we can push this baby. I want the year to be 2040, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate DX XL Turbo Edition comes out with 140 characters, 160 stages, and 1500 songs.

20+ years and they haven't even doubled the roster size? You underestimate them. I want a roster so huge you have to first select a franchise, then fighter select.

And people will still complain about Fire Emblem

Mario vs Sonic Olympic Games is just dropped as a full game series and added to Smash as minigames.

That's not possible. No matter how they slice it, the next Smash, whenever that comes, will have less characters.

As great as this game is looking to be, it's also put them in something of a strange position. It'll be really hard to sell Smash down the road after this, and I don't envy whoever takes the reigns after Sakurai.

Why would Geno kill Wario? Cloud makes more sense.

Well Sakurai is willing to work on more Smash games after Ultimate.

I also like that this addresses the narrative certain people have that this is Sakurai's last Smash game.

I do hope he gets some rest after Ultimate though. Dude deserves it after giving us so much.

That's cool and all, but we need another Kirby Air Ride. People also probably want another Kid Icarus game

Even if they do make a Smash 6, they'll probably be able to keep Ultimate going for a while purely on DLC. Hell, even if there's a Smash 6 next generation, they might be able to save it for towards the end of it and just have an updated Ultimate port for the first few years.

x6 It can't be too much work to just build off of Ultimate.

The fake leak: know how I know it's fake? Because of Pikmin 4, Castlevania 4, and Punch-Out: Champions. Maybe one or two of those, but that's too much wish fulfillment.

Even if they just make expansion packs to it, there's still the issue of licensing all the guests again (apparently it almost didn't happen this time), licensing some of the Nintendo characters, since a lot of them have their own smaller companies that have their own stakes in them, and touching up the older characters. And if Sakurai does stay on to work on it, the guy's standards are so high I doubt he'd just want to copy paste everyone into newer iterations without touch ups and updates.

The Black Knight part of that "leak" especially doesn't make sense because, with the exception of Richter, no other Echoes have gotten their own trailers yet. So he wouldn't/shouldn't get a trailer if he's announced (much less kill Ike in it).

When Sakurai was talking about the project plan for Ultimate, he said the options were bring everyone back and use Smash 4 as a base or a significant overhaul with a smaller roster.

He could easily decide to do the latter for the next game and just work back up from that.

A new Kirby's air ride has nothing to do with Sakurai.

A new Kid Icarus has nothing to do with Sakurai.
