Hmmm. I've looked up the Wikipedia articles for most of the characters in this chapter... and boy, do we have a long way to go if this is going to even touch on the discovery of the New World. Also, wonder how the mangaka is going to reconcile Canute's current disposition with his historical depiction.

He probably won't and he does not have to. This is historical fiction certain changes and what not are allowed.

If you're talking about the latter, I know he doesn't have to - after all, the historical Canute was both recorded as being pious and God-fearing, and at the same time (implicitly) responsible for a number of political assassinations and whatnot. I'd just like to see which direction he'd take it in.

Well he may put a God fearing facade in front of his subjects in the manga. To help him keep power.

Oh hell yeah. His brother might put up enough of a fight to make Thorkell happy for a bit though. Thorkell is in Denmark right? I can't remember.

...If Canute's Henchman there uses coins in an actual battle, that's some Dynasty Warriors level stuff.

SLAVERY IS VERY INTERESTING

Assuming that you are being sarcastic, I can certainly see where you are coming from. During the 'prologue', and chapter that didn't have at least three heads rolling would be considered a slow day, and now we get this.

It's still a very good story, but there sure is some dissonance.

Er, no, I'm not being sarcastic. Maybe you haven't been reading the latest chapters, but the philosophical bent the story took, the focus on hard and productive work, the vivid depiction of how much slavery sucks, Thorfinn really, seriously, honestly angsting about his past, and his future, and the high Melodrama that's been taking place, really got me caught up. And the art is gorgeous as usual. I think it's a definite improvement over the Testosterone Poisoning, with, at my age, I'm beiginning to find downright trite.

Well, it's a little difficult for me to see what you are talking about if you use the same line I've seen people actually use to voice their displeasure.

That said, I'd say I'm agreeing with you. It is still one heck of a story, just a rather different one, which is in itself a pretty nasty flaw but one that can be overlooked.

Really? People have been using that phrase?

I want an anime for this series very badly.

The Genre Shift makes it pretty implausible.

I like both parts of the series. Although I wouldn't mind a little more action I'm not angry that we aren't having it.

I like farming so that change did not bother me, lol.

I know I like this series a lot cause even though my favorite character died, I still like it a lot, perhaps more.

They can stop at the part they want. See Jojos Bizarre Adventure and Berserk

Yeah, but there isn't really a part where it can end with a satisfying conclusion.

Although I suppose the same is true of Berserk, but I don't think Vinland Saga is popular enough to get an anime that would necessarily have a Left Hanging ending.

Latest chapter only has 16 pages.
