  • Unintentional Period Piece: "It Came Out of the Sky" mentions several political and cultural figures that are no longer alive, such as then-governor of California Ronald Reagan, then-Vice President Spiro Agnew, and journalists Walter Cronkite and Eric Sevareid.
  • Signature Song: "Fortunate Son" is easily the quintessential classic rock song about Vietnam War and included in movies extremely often; furthermore, even John Fogerty's autobiography is called just like the song. The other highly popular hit from the album, however, is "Down on the Corner", and the Covered Up versions of "Cotton Fields" and "Midnight Special" are notable as well.
