• Broken Base: The decision to have Robert and Stannis executed has been... controversial.
• Cargo Ship: Arthur Dayne and Dawn, the sword of his house. He recalls memories of trying to carry it when he was old enough to walk and scaring his mother.
• Early-Bird Cameo: In a dream sequence that Jaime has where he has sex with Elia he describes her features as being hard to focus on, particularly her eyes are described as as changing from dark black to the colour of green flames and then to the bluest blue he has ever seen. This presumably is a referance to Brienne of Tarth.
• Early-Installment Weirdness: Elia's fighting skills aren't really brought up much after the chapter they appear in when she beats Lyanna in a sparing match.
• Moral Event Horizon: Rhaegar crosses it when he forces Lyanna to marry him and rapes her.
• Nightmare Fuel:
  • Lord Rickard’s heart attack, particularly because of the suddenness of it.
  • Robert's fate at the hand of Aerys is certainly difficult to read as well.
