• Archive Panic: Not Ved Buens Ende themselves, who only have one album and a demo (three demos if you count their work as Manes), but all three members of the Written in Waters lineup have credits as members of at least four other bands, and in several cases quite lengthy tenures at that. And God help you if you then try tracking down all of those bands' entire discographies...
• Broken Base: The vocals, both clean and screamed, are a major point of contention.
• Cult Classic: Written in Waters is a lesser known one among Black Metal fans.
• Gateway Series: As the Ur-Example of Black Metal/Post-Rock fusions, they've probably gotten more than a few listeners of the former genre get into the into the latter. There are passages on Written in Waters that wouldn't feel out of place on Slint's Spiderland, for example.
