  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Yes, the terrorists were ultimately thwarted, and yes, the religious leaders were saved, but the unity rally was still cancelled due to the terrorists (so they kinda got what they wanted), and some people (including cops) were still gunned down in the process.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The movie, about a domestic terrorist group planning to blow up buildings, was released released 9 days after the Oklahoma City bombing. Furthermore, the film's terrorists planned their attack on April 20th, Hitler's birthday, while Timothy McVeigh planned his attack on April 19th, the anniversary of the Waco siege's ending.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: Almost every review upon release noted the film's close proximity to the Oklahoma City bombing, and the producers removed all references to domestic terrorism in its marketing.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Turner and Hooch and K-9, two other movies about cops/detectives teaming up with canines.
  • Uncertain Audience: One of the main reasons why the film failed at the box office. A plot of Chuck Norris teaming up with an intelligent police dog may sound like a family-friendly action comedy in the vein of Turner and Hooch, but the plot involves White supremacists engaging in domestic terrorism, which was a touchy subject in the aftermath of incidents like Ruby Ridge and the Waco siege, and the fact that the film was released 9 days after the Oklahoma City bombing ensured its demise at the box office.
