YMMV / Top Cat: The Movie

Go To

  • Americans Hate Tingle: Is received very well (or at least seen as So Okay, It's Average) in the country it was made (as well as Latin America in general), but not so much in the country where the franchise originated from. Main criticisms are usually the animation, and Top Cat's schemes only looking clever by making everyone around him look as gullible as possible.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The main reason it was even made in the first place. Top Cat has a very big fanbase in South America. So the film was produced and animated by a Hispanic animation company and released in Spanish-speaking nations first as a result.
  • The Scrappy: Lou Strickland. He’s an annoying and obnoxious Fat Bastard with a stupid, whiny voice and makes dumb jokes. Even for a villain, he’s unbearable. It doesn’t help that he’s voiced by Rob Schneider in the US version.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Scathing reviews and criticism towards the animation aside.
  • Special Effect Failure: The poorly done combination of 2D Flash and 3D animation in the movie causes various perspective problems.
  • Tear Jerker: During his time in Dog Jail, Top Cat is attempting to dig himself out, but he overhears from a surveillance screen that his friends are deciding to forget all about him, so he decided to forget about escaping as well.
