• Spiritual Successor: Outside of the Alanverse, the show could be seen as being this to Extras (Alan's final-episode rant about the audience being idiots is comparable to Andy Millman's one about how he had to dumb down his sitcom in order to get it made) and W1A (what with both being sitcoms set within The BBC and prone to plenty of Biting-the-Hand Humour). Alan's clumsy attempts to make himself look more politically correct than he actual is may well bring to mind the behaviour exhibited by David Brent.
