YMMV / The Stalin Subway

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The game's score is, simply put, amazing. Right in the first stage, you see the cutscene where Gleb's phone conversation with his dad is interrupted by KGB insurgents, where he then grabs his pistol, steps out... and this track plays. Perfect for shooting mooks to.
  • Complete Monster: Lavrentiy Beria is the mastermind behind the events of both games. Deciding to overthrow Stalin, Beria started to organize regular executions and tortures, using his men to murder dozens of people under the pretense of hunting down traitors. Kidnapping the father of hero Gleb Suvorov to torture information out of him about the atomic bomb the scientists were building, Beria planned to use the bomb to kill Stalin and the rest of the Party. Sending his men to invade Measuring Unit Lab, Beria has many scientists tortured and massacred. After Gleb and his wife Natalia Mihaleva foiled his scheme, Beria waited out until Stalin died, upon which he ordered his men to slaughter everyone who opposes his rule.
  • Obvious Beta: Red Veil is clearly less finished and balanced compared to the first game and has much more negative reviews due to various reasons:
    • Level design is more basic and the game makes use of no-warning high damage enemies to "punish" you for going for places you're not intended to in the first mission.
    • VERY little pre-placed items exist, armor was already too little in the first game but now despite armor still being on the HUD, there's no armor at all outside of multiplayer and you're entirely reliant on random bandages dropped by enemies for healing.
  • Questionable Casting: Despite being set in Moscow, all the NPC's in the first game have strong Brooklyn accents due to the first game being dubbed in New York. The voices in the second game avert this issue.
  • Special Effects Failure: The game tends to have it's issues, from enemy models flailing like mannequins to clipping through walls. A rather prominent instance in the first game actually sees an enemy mook floating in mid-air, his head clipping through the ceiling in a really weird manner!
