The fate of the Aniverse is in the hands of Bucky O'Hare, brave captain of the Righteous Indignation … and his fearless crew, Jenny the Aldeberan Cat, Dead Eye Duck, AFC Blinky, Bruise, and Earth Boy, Willy Duwitt.
Attention all hands! Battle stations! Let's croak some toadies!

Bucky O'Hare is a 1992 arcade Run-and-Gun-style action game released by Konami, based on the TV series Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars! - and unlike the TV series that inspires it, the game actually has a conclusion to the titular wars.

When the Toad Empire get their hands on a computer program known as "Komplex" and intends to unleash its powers - called the the "Interplanetary Life Force" on unsuspecting worlds, it's up to Bucky O'Hare and his crew to save the universe.

The game allows up to four players at once, with playable heroes being characters from the TV show, including Captain Bucky O'Hare of the Righteous Indignation, the "Aldebaran cat" Jenny, Dead-Eye Duck and the ship's android, Blinky.

Not to be confused with the NES Game.

Bucky O'Hare - The Arcade Game contain examples of:

  • Actionized Adaptation: Bucky and his crew kicks way, way, way more ass in the game than in the series - their kill-tally in the first stage is already higher than the series' entire 13 episodes.
  • Animal Mecha: Two of them shows up as Mini Bosses encountered in the middle of stages; the mechanical Space Whale piloted by Total Terror Toad, and the robotic Land Shark in the desert chase.
  • Ash Face: Getting hit by flamethrowers or fire-spewing traps will momentarily turn Bucky and crew entirely covered in soot, but they'll shake the effects off after a few seconds before they resume ass-kicking.
  • Asteroid Thicket: One of the more platform-orientated stages is set on an asteroid belt, with Bucky and crew leaping from one hovering asteroid to another while shooting enemies in the way. Occasionally the asteroid might give way underfoot, necessitating them to run quickly or lose a life.
  • Auto-Scrolling Level: Levels where Bucky and crew gains jetpacks have them flying upwards or forward on full-auto. As does the Hover Bike stages.
  • Backpack Cannon: Blinky has one protruding from above his back, which provides backup attacks when activated and release a flurry of energy spheres at enemies.
  • Canon Foreigner: Ro-Dent the Old Mouse and one of the bosses, Cyborg Spider, doesn't have a cartoon counterpart.
  • Cobweb Jungle: Cyborg Spider is fought in a cobweb-covered set of ruins, which he coated himself prior to the fight. And will repeatedly demonstrate his Projectile Webbing abilities to create more webs in the area.
  • Demoted to Extra: Willy Duwitt from the show appears only in cutscenes. He's not even a playable character, despite being one of the TV show's main cast and that his name is mentioned in the game's intro.
  • Giant Mook: The Mook Mobile toad ships, occasional enemies that takes up a large chunk of the screen, requires plenty of shots (or at least a Smart Bomb) to destroy, and attacks by trying to ram into the players.
  • The Goomba: The Storm Toads in video-game form are as useless as their cartoon counterparts, being easy enemies that appears in large numbers and dies in just a single shot. Harder enemies like blue toads and toad ships doesn't appear until later stages.
  • Hover Bike: The stage on Planet Ro-Dent have the heroes riding weaponized hover-bikes on full-auto, controlling the bike's turrets into shooting everything in sight.
  • Jet Pack: Toads on hover-packs are recurring enemies, which they use to drop into an area to ambush Bucky and crew. Bucky and gang uses jetpacks in a handful of levels, for infiltrating enemy bases where they simply shoot everything in their way while being carried by their packs.
  • Mecha-Mooks: Besides Storm Toad foot-soldiers, sometimes the toads can send robotic enemies to menace the players.
  • Notice This: Or "Aim Here!", when the game points out which control panel / circuit board / console etc. you need to destroy to deactivate gates, forcefields, or whatever obstacle preventing your advance.
  • People Jars: The second-to-last stage have an area containing Storm Toads in glass cylinders. Shattering their containers will release them into attacking immediately.
  • Recurring Boss: Toadborg needs to be fought twice, the second time at the end of the second-to-last stage. It's harder in the latter fight since Toadborg is fought in a room containing electrified floors than can shock Bucky and gang, but not himself.
  • Rocket Punch: Another added feature for players who use Blinky the robot, where his secondary attack have him shooting his fist ahead into enemies before retracting into himself.
  • Rock Monster: The level set on an asteroid belt have sentient, humanoid piles of asteroids as enemies, capable of taking far more hits than the usual toad mooks and collapsing into Literally Shattered Lives when killed.
  • Sand Is Water: The robotic Land Shark boss is fought in the desert (while the heroes are on Hover Bikes) where it pops in and out of the sand like a shark through water. It even sports a Shark Fin of Doom before pouncing out to attack before diving back into the sand.
  • Sean Connery Is About to Shoot You: Bucky's aiming for the players in the arcade flyers, but you probably don't need to worry much unless you're a toad.
  • Shockwave Stomp: Total Terror Toad's sole attack during his boss fight have him leaping in and out repeatedly onscreen, in an attempt to stomp Bucky and co. underfoot.
  • Smart Bomb: Available for all characters, which manifests as a powerful blue energy sphere from where it's activated causing massive damage within a large radius.
  • Space Whale: A robotic version of an alien whale, larger than most battleships and too big to occupy the entire screen, shows up as one of the bosses. However Bucky and his gang have jetpacks during that battle, and so can simply fly circles around the monster while returning fire. (Protip: Shoot inside it's mouth when it's using it's vacuum attack)
  • Teleport Spam: Blue-skinned toad aliens, whom are more durable and capable of absorbing more hits than the recurring green variety, can teleport after getting hit, reappearing elsewhere in the area to take potshots at Bucky's gang.
  • TV Head Robot: The final stage have one of these, whose head is as tall as the entire screen, as an Advancing Wall of Doom trying to flatten the heroes. It splits into half a dozen smaller TV-heads after it's blown up.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Al Negator, the first boss. Relatively slow on his feet, carries a dinky laser blaster with a painfully slow firing rate, and his only special attack is a predictable Tail Slap that can be dodged by jumping. He's as easy as you'd expect a level 1 boss to be.
