• Esoteric Happy Ending: Lou taking the 'cure.' It's portrayed as an act of bravery that pays off in him achieving his ambitions, but the whole book leading up to it suggests that the treatment effectively erases his identity, and there really isn't anything to be cured in the first place. The Real Life Unfortunate Implications — particularly given the author has an autistic son — have not gone unnoticed in reviews.
