YMMV / The Simpsons S3 E2 "Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington"

Go To

  • Awesome Art: Lisa's disillusionment fantasy that looks like a political cartoon come to life.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • When Homer is too engrossed in his magazine to eat, Lenny asks if he got his stomach stapled. Not this time, but Homer would sixteen seasons later.
    • Then-President George H. W. Bush is portrayed as something of a Reasonable Authority Figure in his brief appearance, something that becomes funnier when you consider his later relationship with the show and the Simpsons themselves in-universe.
    • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Also, Marge and Barbara become friends in that episode.
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • The family meets Barbara Bush, and President George H. W. Bush appears at the end. They left the White House in 1993, two years later.
    • After creating some mischief on the plane, Bart is given a tour of the cockpit - something all but verboten after 9/11, and especially during the early 2000s.
  • Values Resonance: The episode explores corruption at the highest levels of government. This would become more relevant in the following decades with faith in Congress at historically low approval ratings in the 2010s and 2020s.
