YMMV / The Republic of Sarah

Go To

  • Romantic Plot Tumor: The series has two subplots involving infidelity. Neither has been well-received by the fandom.
  • Uncertain Audience: An oft-cited reason on what doomed the show to air for just one season. It stuck out like a sore thumb on The CW's lineup, as it wasn't based on an existing property, a Superhero series, or a Teen Drama. The show was initially developed for CBS and had to go through a retool to better fit on The CW, including aging down some of the characters.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: AJ is a closeted lesbian in a small conservative-leaning town, which would normally earn her some sympathy... except that she's also carrying on a casual affair with a married woman, and not only does she not seem to care about the strain that her actions are putting on her partner's marriage, she also gives very little thought to how the fallout from the affair might affect her partner's relationship with her stepdaughter. And then, as soon as she finds out her partner is pregnant, she tries to force an ultimatum, which goes about as badly as you'd expect. Needless to say, very few fans feel sorry for her when it all blows up in her face.
