Critical Research Failure is now a disambiguation page.

* CriticalResearchFailure: In "In Us We Trust", Sarah balks at sending her mother Ellen to a new-age treatment center, because she doesn't believe that the treatment will be science-based, and instead wants her mom to go to a more traditional AA treatment center. Alcoholics Anonymous is notorious for having almost no science backing it up.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: AJ is a closeted lesbian in a small conservative-leaning town, which would normally earn her some sympathy... except that she's also carrying on a casual affair with a married woman, and not only does she not seem to care about the strain that her actions are putting on her partner's marriage, she also gives very little thought to how the fallout from the affair might affect her partner's relationship with her stepdaughter. And then, as soon as she finds out her partner is pregnant, she tries to force an ultimatum, which goes about as badly as you'd expect. Needless to say, very few fans feel sorry for her when it all blows up in her face.

* UncertainAudience: A oft-cited reason on what doomed the show to air for just one season. It stuck out like a sore thumb on Creator/TheCW's lineup, as it wasn't based on an existing property, a Superhero series, or a TeenDrama. The show was initially developed for Creator/{{CBS}} and had to go through a retool to better fit on The CW, including aging down some of the characters.
