- Captain Obvious Reveal: The big reveal at the end of Chapter 11 where Rowan is not only still alive, but also The Contractor was supposed to be a shocking twist. However, because of several factors, most notably the fact that Rowan's gender is inexplicably the same as The Contractor's (something that is shown as early as the third chapter), the reveal was ultimately as predictable as the tides.
- Fan Nickname: Rowan has come to be nicknamed "Rowan Darkmatter" after it is revealed that he/she faked his/her death and joined The Architect willingly, which is a reference to Warp Darkmatter, alias Agent Z from Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, who was Buzz's partner before he faked his death and joined Zurg willingly.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Rowan. Them faking their death and joining The Architect is meant to see them portrayed as a Well-Intentioned Extremist who fights against corrupt organizations and governments, but they go along with The Architect's more mean-spirited crimes such as committing a ransomware attack against a Hospital and standing by while they shoot a sobbing, defenseless unarmed man/woman. Furthermore, while it's eventually shown that GAIA isn't spotless, Rowan willingly siding with a terrorist doesn't give them any moral high ground to stand on.
