Rowan isn't actually dead
Think about it, if Rowan is going to be killed off so early, then WHY is there a sneak peek featuring him/her? We know that those featured in the sneak peeks tend to be the love interests, so it is very likely we'll see him/her later in the story.- Compounding this further is that in Chapter 3, the assassin's gender is the same as Rowan's.
- Also, Rowan may have been rebuilt as a cyborg. Elliot couldn't find their pulse in Chapter 1, and in Chapter 3, one line of text says the assassin moved "almost mechanically".
- Confirmed. Not only is Rowan still alive, he/she is none other than the assassin known as The Contractor.
Vivian will be Promoted to Love Interest later on in the story, or at least a hook-up option
She was featured in a sneak peek, after all.- This seems less likely given that Rowan, who was also featured in a sneak peek, is confirmed to not be one.
Agent Gray is the only Love Interest
Since Rowan has been Out of Focus since Chapter 1, some have theorized that he/she isn't a love interest at all.- Now with Rowan confirmed to be The Contractor and also the revelation that he/she betrayed GAIA willingly, this seems even more likely.
- However, there are still chances that he/she could be redeemed.
- Update: He/she does redeem in Chapter 15, but then he/she got shot by The Architect, and currently it's unknown whether he/she survived or not.
- Sadly, Rowan dies from the shot in Chapter 16, thus confirming this theory and making Gray the only LI.
The book will have a sequel
Now we know that Agent Gray is the only love interest, due to Rowan's death, the chances for a sequel are that much higher. Maybe the sequel will focus on GAIA being a Greater-Scope Villain and Elliot and Gray teaming up to take down their former employers.- Jossed.
